In the article, Women Get Interrupted More—Even By Other Women, Robb depicts the sexism towards talking to women in comparison to men. With the aid of the research done by Adrienne Hancock and Benjamin Rubin, the author exposes the truth that, on average, women are interrupted more often even by the same sex, despite the fact that women are "more elaborate in their language". This article held my interest, it was to the point, but with enough details to not generate questions on the integrity. I enjoyed this article as I believe this discriminatory situation, especially in professional settings, is something women should not tolerate, and I am glad this was brought to attention, to hopefully alter the behaviour of people. In the essay “Bossy,’ the Other B-Word,” Sheryl Sandberg and Anna Maria Chavez express the idea of women being told they are bossy as being a huge issue, in a constructive manner. Both authors explained thoroughly why they have the right to speak as an expert on the subject; it was an effective use of ethos. The claim is well put together and cleverly implied. The evidence they incorporated was well thought-out and supported the claim in all sides of the argument. They successfully wrapped up the entire essay and claim with an astounding conclusion. This essay is a well constructed argumentative essay.
Deborah Tannen brings up the issue of how women are often labeled bossy when is positions of authority in her article. ““Bossy” Is More Than a Word to Women”. She explains the everyday struggle that these women go through and the on going patriarchy in the work force. From their diction down to minute ways that women present themselves it seems that they are scrutinized in every way possible. Deborah faces these issues head on with a woman’s perspective allowing those unaware and men a small glimpse into the difficult life of women everywhere. She falls a little short on some of her theories for why this may be because of the lack of research. Besides that it is a very passionate and informative article because these issues continue to happen, whether or not she is correct about the source of these issues. Deborah makes sure to have her points come across clearly by using buzz words, writing with a passionate tone, and falls short with some of her theories by having insignificant research.
In her article “But What Do You Mean” Deborah Tannen, claims that there is a huge difference in the style of communicating between men and women. Tannen breaks these down into seven different categories; apologies, criticism, thank-yous, fighting, praise, complaints, and jokes. With each of these she compares men to women by explaining the common misconceptions that each of the genders do. The different style of communication can cause some problems at the workplace and even affect the environment. The different styles of communication has been around forever and almost becomes a “ritual”(299). Tannen is effective with mainly women and not men. Despite legislation for equal opportunities, sexism is still evident in the workplace. Women have made great advancements in the workforce and have become an integral part of the labor market. They have greater access to higher education and as a result, greater access to traditionally male dominated professions such as law. While statistics show that women are equal to men in terms of their numbers in the law profession, it is clear however, that they have not yet achieved equality in all other areas of their employment. Discrimination in the form of gender, sex and sexual harassment continues to be a problem in today’s society.
Gender Matters is a collection of various essays on feminist linguistic texts analysis, by Sara Mills. Mills develops methods of analyzing literary and non-literary texts, in addition to conversational analysis based on a feminist approach. The author draws on data from her collection of essays gathered over the last two decades on feminism during the 1990s. The essays focus on gender issues, the representation of gender in reading, writing, and in public speaking. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of feminists’ analysis of sexism in literature and the relation between gender and politeness. The article is informative for my research paper, as my topic is going to cover language analysis of the text and who women reading and writing differs according to the discourse analysis within linguistic, psychology, case studies audiences and surveys. The book would be helpful, particularly the last three essays that discusses gender, public speaking, the question of politeness and impoliteness in public speaking. Mills’ analysis is not complete without including the idea of global notions of both women and men, to see whether women and men write and read in the same way globally. Therefore, an update would enrich the book’s discussion section. Although, Mills addresses the class and race theme in language and public speaking, I will only look into the role of language that plays a part in doing or reducing gender in literary, non-literary texts and in conversation.

Sexism is an ever changing concept in today’s world. Every day the concept morphs a little bit, changing the entire definition of what is sexist and what is not. In The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare, the male characters lie to and abuse their women in order to have the women marry them. Lucentio come to Padua to study, but when he sees a beautiful girl, he pretends to be a teacher in order to marry Bianca. Petruchio on the other hand forces a woman to marry him and then trains her to follow his every command. Although the The Taming of the Shrew is frequently regarded as a particularly sexist play, it is not sexist and demeaning towards women.

In this article, Jillian discusses the shyness that women experience when in the working field which keeps them from reaching higher positions. By writing this article, Jillian is putting out a request to employers to assist women since they tend to be shyer, more modest, and have a hard time "selling themselves to their employers". Although this type of sexual discrimination may go unnoticed and considered normal behavior by the general public, feminists believe this behavior is having a negative impact on the equality of the female sex in the United States.
