Taylor Swift speech analysis Graduating in 2022 from NYU, Taylor Swift is officially a doctor of fine arts. While being a doctor, she also happens to be one of America's most well known pop stars. In a stadium filled with a persistent crowd, she stands on a stage while she is introduced. She accepts her diploma, and begins to give her acceptance speech. In this essay, I will be analyzing Taylor Swift's NYU commencement speech to the class of 2022. Taylor starts off her speech with a light, and fun story about how she was dancing in heels the last time she was in a stadium that was immense. Jointly she seems very relaxed; she even mentions how comfortable her outfit is. Seemingly confident and calm, she says “I’d like to thank NYU for making me, technically, on paper at least, a doctor” (Taylor Swift). While being a doctor in fine arts, Taylor says she is 90% sure the reason she is there is because she has a song called 22. Trying to relate to others, Taylor mentions how different her college experience was as well as others were due to the pandemic. Doing this shows others that they too faced similar experiences. She doesn’t want the whole speech to be about her, so she gives advice people want to hear. Taylor’s personality is as bright as her red lipstick as she continues to quote song lyrics. Then received a clamor from the crowd because of the formidableness. She takes a break in between each idea so people can respond. This allows for a lengthier speech and a transition between topics. Additionally, she conveyed a vulnerable aspect when she mentioned to people how you should “never be ashamed of trying” (Taylor Swift).
