Chase Phares pharesc879@carlsbadusd.net August 31, 2017 Residential Architecture In the last decade the residential architecture scene has been a booming industry and it's not slowing down. As far as finding a career in this field I think it is an excellent choice for many reasons. First, residential architecture has no signs of slowing down. New home designs are always craved and sometimes necessary for growth through a new era. I think that residential architecture is one the the aspects that shapes an era, location, or time period. Look back to the 1700’s the “colonial times”, that era actually shaped a whole new design of houses that are still popular in today's society. Another example is a “cape cod” home, this style of home completely …show more content…
This is interesting to me because this is an example of how residential architecture can be a way to express your creativity and design taste , which I really like. This also helps illustrate the idea that residential architecture has no signs of slowing down because running out of new ideas and designs won't be an issue for me because i'm naturally very creative person. The second reason I would want to become a residential architect is the accessibility to become one. Although I plan on attending a 4 year college after high school to be a residential architect I don't necessarily have to graduate from a 4 year school. However, I still see it to be a good idea to have a Bachelor's Degree in architecture to become a residential architect. I feel like it would be very important that I get a degree in architecture for this job because it will give me the skills I need to be hired for more jobs. …show more content…
According to a recent study done in 2016 the average income for a residential architect is $80,000 per year. This includes an average wage of about $35 per hour. This certainly will not make me a billionaire but it is a steady paying job that can put food on the table. $80,000 per year may not seem like a lot to some, but for a 20 year old kid coming out of college this is a very promising field considering that $80,000 is just the start on what you can work with. This number can jump up significantly depending on the kind of architect you are, where you live/ work and the company you work for. This means that the sky is the limit for what you can do with a job in residential architecture. This is extremely promising considering that after college I have the opportunity to do something I am passionate about and make much more than minimum wage which is great considering that I want to enjoy the fruits of my
The deterioration of residential homes is common throughout the years due to wear and tear from everyday usage. The cost to prevent this deterioration is usually minimal and does not skyrocket into the hundreds of thousands of dollars for routine maintenance. In addition, the construction of residential homes has improved throughout the years; hence, not as many repairs are required over time. Engineers have developed better concepts of how homes will stand up against the elements and big box stores encourage the homeowners to repair and do their own maintenance on their standard house. However, there are residential homes that are nonconforming and their architectural designs are of those who have brought these homes into the forefront of Modern Architecture. One who is most noteworthy and is synonymous with residential homes is Frank Lloyd Wright. Known for his unique style of residential design, Frank Lloyd Wright was ahead of his time, however, the materials he used in these designs have proven to be unsustainable and cost hundreds of thousands, even millions, of dollars to homeowners for their preservation.
When an architect is influenced they create. They make what they see in their mind. But people could always improve what they’ve already created. Homes at one point were only one story houses. But suddenly to someone’s mind they thought homes should be two stories or even three. Back in High School, most of my classmates wanted to become architects and they’d be asked how they were influenced to draw a blueprint like the one they had. Some would respond with “I saw this house that had this this and this and I really liked it so I put it into my home.” Meaning they would be inspired by a home that was already
To this day, Eichler is known as one of the nation’s most influential architects of modern homes. He was one of very few architects relevant in the Modernism Movement. Modernism opened up alternatives to suburban styles of home design, and created different kinds of architecture that pleased the desired lifestyle. This modernist architecture was able to thrive in the ways that it did as many families were looking to start over after the war. Modernist architects, similar to Eichler, were inspired industrial building techniques and the radical new forms of painting and sculpture in this age. Many people went along with the “make it new” phenomenon and appreciated these radical forms.

Many studies have shown that adolescents residing in low income or high crime neighborhoods are more likely to get involved with deviant behavior or committing criminal acts. (Deutsch, 2012) There are several neighborhood factors that affect the crime rates of the neighborhood such as overcrowding, low economic status, the neighborhood’s reputation and its residential instability. These may create a disorganized community, leading to distrust and cynicism among residents in the community. As a result, there would be a higher rate of opportunities for crimes and delinquency. (Kurlychek, 2011) Thus high rates of crimes and violence are more likely to occur at these areas.
It will discuss the different types of dwellings throughout recorded human history from the perspective of how art and culture influences building design. This will fulfill my own curiosity to understand the different influences on homebuilding and design over the years and how people have dealt with these changes.
Over the last four years of studying architecture, I have seen the power that it has to shape communities, shape lives, and to create new ways that people interact with each other. The way architecture can help enhance living and allow for creation of new interactions of people is one of the reasons I find the subject so interesting. The way architecture can shape a whole culture and the way that the culture then in turn shapes the architecture is fascinating to me. Architecture is also not a static subject, it is constantly evolving and adapting with time to take on new forms, create new spaces, and to provide commentary on the history of our time on Earth. The depth that architecture has, and the evolution of the subject is something I have fallen in love with through my study of it. However, when I first started out studying architecture, I had no idea of the depth that the subject had, and it was an incredibly daunting realization; however, it was as equally exciting. I have always had a love for learning and architecture has just fueled that fire. Even after completing my bachelors degree, the learning has not stopped. I get to learn something new about architecture daily, and getting to say that is an opportunity I am thankful to have. It is not just about the learning however, its
Being a residential designer to me means that you have a big responsibilities and desires that you will fulfill . For example, if you have due date to complete the house you can’t slack off because if you do thats just messing up your pay. Designing people’s houses is fascinating to me and i'm thrilled to be learning about building, starstricking designs and many more. To infer from this i'm going to make sure that i'm on my game including with school ,so that i can be a successful person. Lastly, I want to pursue in this career because when i’m at home I love decorating my room or the house to make my family around me satisfied. Also when i'm working on things like design im focused and I get what I want and need done. While I want to engage in residential design, im going to have to work for what I want; therefore my studies will come
...s estimated to be at $39,180 annually. The highest paid ten percent of interior designers, experts, in 2002 had wages of $69,640, while the lowest paid ten percent, beginners, were paid $21,240 (U.S. Department of Labor). Those who are genuinely committed to a fulltime career in designing know that urban areas and big cities pay better and provide more career options. In small town areas there is less demand for the input of an interior designer. Self-employed designers work for clients at a set, hourly fee, but majority of designers work in a firm for either a straight salary or an hourly fee to clients. In interior design, because there is so much flex given to each designer in a firm, there really are no requirements of benefits, insurance, or retirement plans. The established benefits are completely up to the individual employer. (Careers in Focus: Design)
Anyone would need to overcome this obstacle by keeping diligent notes and structured systems. Another challenge would be to preserve creativity and work according to a client’s wishes. Customer requirements. Patients and communication are critical in negotiating with customers. The rewards of this career would mainly leave a legacy of buildings where individuals could function pragmatically and feel comfortable and safe. With a lot of hard work and a steep learning curve any student could be on the way to becoming and the architect. A lot of math and physics are required to design a good building. It's very important to be creative and have the flexibility to handle difficult situations. to respond to different tastes and communities, ensuring a steady stream of customers and a more stable
...Focus: Architecture and Building 10). “Employment in this field is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations through 2020” (McKay 1). However, the number of architects depends on the volume of construction, and with the construction industry being sensitive to changes in the economy, poor economics could result in layoffs. On the other hand, architects can find work through self-employment, developing graphic design, interior design, product specialties, and the construction of museums, and display firms. Also, many architects “are employed in government agencies such as the Departments of Defense, Interior, and Housing and Urban Development, and the General Services Administration” (Careers in Focus: Architecture and Building 8,12). Architecture has many positive effects and promising outlooks in society, which makes it a great career to pursue.
Post modern architecture: A revival of architectural elements of the past or a version of aestheticism?
A recent study conducted by Building Futures in association with RIBA surveyed the various demographics of the construction industry to establish their thoughts and opinions in regards to the state of architectural profession today, and in the future. The document identifies the concern that conventional building design is shifting from the architects to the various sub-contractors for a multitude of reasons [Jamieson, 2010: 12]. The most obvious being the increased complexity and required specialisation of the building elements, which will further require a specific workforce utilising other educational qualifications. It is ironic that under this opinion architects have reverted back to their initial scope-depth state, having expertise in all but specialising in none. One could contribute this back to Vitruvius, who prescribed an architect to have an expansive knowledge including philosophy, arithmetic and geometry amongst others skills, effectively indicating that an architect should be a jack of all trades and a master of none. Thus an argument could be presented that it is the very nature of our education system, the one that forces us to immerse ourselves superficially in all aspects of the project, that makes us suitable to evolve from a design profession to a managerial role, The issue then
Architectural engineering is a challenging yet rewarding career. Architectural engineers design buildings that not only look appealing, but also suit the needs of people and ensure the safety of those people that occupy them. The four to five years spent getting an architectural engineering degree is well worth it because it opens up opportunities. The opportunities are endless in the field of architectural engineering.
Residential interior design involves dealing with home owners normally on an available budget. Some interior designers specialize in working on bathrooms, kitchens, living areas or even bedrooms. Others work in the larger and lucrative commercial interior design market. In this marketplace, interior designers are spoiled for choice and may select the retail industry, the hospitality business, the commercial building sector or specialize in related business as diverse as creating exhibits for art galleries and trade shows.
