2. Brief project description
The shelter that student is being placed in is accommodating girls only and there are a number of girls. The project is about promoting hygiene and sanitation in the community. According to Gordon-Davis (2011) stated that hygiene is a quality of living that is conveyed in clean environment of the home. Sanitation can be determined by looking at if the toilet is working and used for safe dumping of excreta with improved hygiene (Lenton et al., 2005). The project will include the giving out of information and learning opportunities about aspects of personal and surroundings hygiene not to forget excreta disposal.
3. Field of social welfare
The service that is offered from the agency is the child protection service. The child protection service is responsible for protecting children up to the age of 18. For example the agency is accommodating girls who are from 12 years to 18 years old. Through this service they help children who have no parents, guardian who cannot be found, or children who have been abandoned, showing behaviour that cannot be controlled by their parents, sexual exploitation, those who are exposed to circumstances that may seriously harm the physical well-being of the child http://www.dsd.gov.za/index.php?option=com_co

This is also one of the issues that social workers are dealing with in the field of social work. All the categories that have to do with sexual abuse, neglect, abandoned etc they fall under child abuse. According to Faller (1981) stated that child neglect refer to harm to a child’s health or wealth by a person responsible who is responsible for the child’s health which appears through neglect treatment which also include the failure to provide enough food , clothing, shelter etc.
Social workers need to be aware to signs of abuse and neglect because they will need to make an assessment of the child in order to know when to refer a case to protective services (Faller, 1981).
Participating in the Mandated Reporter Training is a helpful tool for understanding the role of a social worker as a professional if and when one learns information concerning abuse of a minor. The goal of a social worker is to improve the quality of life for all individuals and if one learns about any type of abuse-physical, sexual, emotional, and/or neglect- it is their responsibility to bring this information to the proper authorities. The training stated that, “Research has shown that when multidisciplinary protocols are followed arrest and prosecution rates increase and trauma to the child decreases” (Arizona Child Abuse Info Center).
As a Child Protective worker, my responsibilities are to assess safety (immediate), risk (future harm), abuse and maltreatment, and make a determination as to whether a child is safe or at risk of future harm and assess the need for services. Children’s Social Care work with parents and other agencies to assess the stages of child protection procedures, record information and make decisions on taking further action. The police work closely with this agency to act on decisions made such as removing a child or the person responsible for the abuse while gathering evidence and carrying out investigations regarding the matter. Health professionals have a duty to report suspected non-accidental injuries to Children’s Social Care and examine children to give evidence of abuse. The Children Act 2004 requires every local area to have a Local Safeguarding Children Board to oversee the work of agencies involved in child protection, place policies and procedures for people who work with children and conduct serious case reviews when children die as a result of abuse. The NSPCC is the only charitable organisation that has the statutory power to take action when children are at risk of abuse. They provide services to support families and children and two helplines for children in danger and adults who are concerned for a child’s safety. First off I am going to start with what is happening, and where it is happening. Child abuse happens everywhere, some places more severe than others. Any form of abuse should be brought to the light. Whether it is physical, mental, or sexual abuse, the cruelty is taking place in every corner of the world. Most third world countries have no laws for child labor, or how far you can take punishment. Even if there is laws in the country it is taking place in the adult might not get in as much trouble as I think they should. Now a days you can physically, mentally, sexually abuse and neglect your child with minimal punishment. Most of the abuse happens behind closed doors also. The caregiver usually threatens the children if they say they are going to tell someone. I believe that the stats online for child abuse are lower than they really are because children are afraid to talk about their situations.

A Community can be defined as a group of people who don’t just live in the same area, but also share the same interests, experiences and often concerns about the area in which they live. Often when individuals have lived on a street or in an area for a while they become familiar with each other and the issues surrounding them. Children often attend the same schools and grow up together, again sharing similar experiences. In some instances adults may work together, and quite commonly all community members will share the same doctors, dentists, hospitals, health visitors and other public services and facilities.
