Malala Yousafzai is a young, education activist. She believes that all students should have equal education, even female students. She was born on July 12, 1997 in a small town called Mingora, Pakistan, where female education was not supported. Her parents, Ziauddin Yousafzai and Toor Pekai Yousafzai, supported female education and raised Malala believing that all girls should be educated. In 2013, 5.4 million children were not receiving an education in Pakistan, and of that 5.4 million, 62% of that amount were females. That means 3,348,000 girls in Pakistan were not receiving an education. In Pakistan they did not believe that females needed an education, but Malala thought otherwise. According to the Transcript of the Ellen Show, Ellen stated, “You were shot in the face at 15 years old and you have no anger toward the man who shot you. How is that possible?” So Ellen was pointing out the fact that Malala had previously mentioned that she was not angry toward the man which shot her. This was Malala’s response: “I think they made a big mistake… I had this little bit of fear of that what would happen to me, how I would feel if someone attacks me, but after that incident when I was attacked, that fear just went away… my weakness, my fear, and my hopelessness died on that day. And I became stronger than before.” So, she forgave the Taliban because they made her stronger than she was before. They helped build her up and show that you can do anything that you put your mind to. She also said, “it’s the love of people.” So, the love for people, the love of people, the strength that is given through the trials of life, it’s all there to make you a better person and it helped Malala to stand firm in what she believes in and keep fighting for what she believes is right.
