I remember helping my mother prepare macaroni and cheese when I was a child and I have continued the tradition with my own children. I would like to briefly share with you how Macaroni and Cheese originated and how my family prepares the meal. Macaroni and Cheese was originated in the late thirteenth century in southern Italy and was integrated into American culture in 1937 through a company called Kraft Company. The idea of selling macaroni and cheese together as a package came about during the Great Depression. A salesman in St. Louis came up with the concept of attaching grated cheese to boxes of pasta with a rubber band.

Once you have everything that is needed, you can begin to prepare the dish. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Take the large mixing bowl and pour the sour cream and the can of mushroom soup into it. I use one can of Campbell's mushroom soup. You can use the off-brand mushroom soup to cut costs if you wish. The end result will be about the same. I also prefer to use fat free sour cream to make it lighter. However, any sour cream would work. You will need eight ounces of sour cream. Stir the sour cream and soup together, and they will blend into a sort of cream sauce. If it is too thick, add a few tablespoons of water to thin it. The sauce should slowly drizzle off of the spoon. You also need to prepare the beef. It is totally dependent on your preference as to how much beef you should use. I tend to use about two pounds of lean hamburger. ...

First, I get a medium-sized saucepan and fill it three-fourths of the way with water that only comes from a natural spring, and put it over high heat. Then, place a nice steel colander in the sink to drain the cooked noodles with later. Next, I get out my white, plastic measuring spoons, liquid measuring cups, a relatively sized bowl for my meal, and a regular metal stirring spoon, which I will use as my eating utensil after I complete the recipe. To begin, I add a pinch of table salt to the water and bring it to a boil while also getting out the necessary ingredients. From the pantry, I have a sixteen ounce bag of H-E-B brand Elbow Macaroni noodles, an eight ounce bottle of Kraft one hundred percent Grated Parmesan Cheese, and an eight ounce can of Tony Chachere’s Original Creole Seasoning. While from the fridge, I have a fifteen ounce container of H-E-B Salted Sweet Cream Spreadable Butter with Canola Oil, a sixteen ounce carton of H-E-B Heavy Whipping Cream, one quart bottle of H-E-B Whole Milk, and an eight pack of H-E-B American Cheese Slices.

People have eaten pasta for a very, very long time. Wheat flour was one of the first foods of our ancestors. To make the flour, they would crush the kernels of wheat between two rocks. Then they would mix the flour with water and cook it. We know all this from drawings on cave walls and other surfaces. The ancestors of Italians, known as Etruscans, had drawings that show them making a food from wheat that looks like pasta. The Italians then made a food they called ‘lagana’ which is now known as ‘pasta’. They then travelled to many different countries, taking pasta with them...

Cheese is the fresh or ripened product obtained by coagulation of milk and subsequent separation of whey and curd phases constituting the milk coagulum. The following process steps are generic in cheese production. Firstly, production of coagulum through the action of rennet and/or lactic acid. Secondly, the gel obtained by coagulation forms curd and whey under syneresis. Then, separation of the resulting curds from the whey. Finally, manipulation of the curds to produce the desired characteristics of the cheese (shown in Figure 1).
What is the true history behind macaroni and cheese? We all know that Thomas Jefferson was known for creating it, but did he actually invent it from the start? Macaroni and cheese became to be known back in 1802 in the White House as a pasta and cheese casserole, but it was already known across Europe. In 1937 after the Great Depression, Kraft came out with its Kraft Macaroni and Cheese dinner and over 8 million boxes were sold in that same year. Back in the late 13th century it is said that the first invention of macaroni was found in Southern Italy in a handwritten letter known as Liber De Coquina.
Imagine Italian cuisine without tomato as an ingredient or your favorite pasta without any tomato sauce. It sounds extraordinary to think that at one point in history Italian cuisine didn’t have tomato as a staple food. After the European exploration of the Americas, numerous amounts food we introduced into Europe, Eurasia and Africa. This helped evolve the Mediterranean diet as well as traditional Italian cuisine (MacLennan and Zhang, 131.) What makes Italian cuisine popular around the world today is that most dishes are made with a small number of ingredients; cooking methods are simple and the recipes are healthy. This is a perfect mix for the food lover, and the upcoming cook with hopes to become a chef. This is why traditional Italian cuisine has influence my pursuit into the culinary field. Macaroni and cheese, an American classic. A recipe so simple, yet has the ability to bring an entire household to a stand-still, enjoying the food and one another’s company. Remembering the first time I ever ate this dish is impossible, being a southern-raised girl I am nearly positive mac and cheese was on every home cooked plate I’d ever eaten. What I can remember, however, is the first time I ever tasted it, not just ate it with a meal, but actually tasted it.
