With Cujo, King hasn’t wasted any time in introducing the characters. Within the first few pages, we meet a man named Vic Trenton whose ad agency is in danger of failing. His wife, Donna, who is in the middle of an extra-marital affair and wants to end it. Their son, Tad, is afraid of a monster in his closet. The Cambers are introduced – their marriage is filled with fear, violence and plain simple trouble. Joe Camber is a violent man, and you just can’t help but to feel sorry for his wife and son. The son – Brett, sleepwalks and owns a huge St. Bernard, Cujo. One starts to get the idea that the story’s heading for a major depressing plot, but things seem to get better. Kemp informs Vic of the affair. Ouch. Donna’s life is quite obviously ruined. Brett and Charity discover the “decent people” aren’t quite as decent as they thought, and then there’s Cujo – who contracts rabies. Cujo does a lot of slaughtering while Brett and Charity are away visiting the “decent people”. These slaughterings definitely pose to be of King’s best, most-intense and goriest scenes ever. Cujo is (was) a good dog ’til he contracted rabies. The story really reaches the heights when Donna and Tad are stuck in their car, trying to keep safe from the dog. The final part of the book focuses on Donna’s struggle to keep herself and Tad alive in her failing car. Cujo’s attacks simply don’t come to an end, and we start believing that if the dog doesn’t kill them, the heat will. This is where I’ll have to stop. If I don’t, I’ll spoil the ending – which will, of course, spoil reading the book. Let me say this much though – I found the end really disappointing. Really disappointing, but then, there are no happily ever after in King’s work. I’m not saying Cujo isn’t a good novel, because it is brilliant! As I’ve said, the dog attacks form part of King’s best work.
Mark was the first boy that Jennings met in the home so he was the one to show Jennings the rules of the home. He slept with Doggie his first night but was panicked when he woke up to find Doggie gone. Jennings thought he had lost Doggie, Mark explained what happens every night with the animals that they are given. Jennings didn’t understand why the nuns would take them away, when he asked Mark “‘But why?’ Mark snapped and said ‘It’s the rules!’ ‘They cage the animals at night. It’s the rules.’”(Burch, 26) Jennings thought that Doggie was his, so when he was lent out to the Carpenter’s he didn’t realize he wouldn’t be able to take Doggie with him. Mrs. Carpenter was a very mean woman and Jennings just wanted Doggie back, he drew a picture of him hoping it would make him feel better. When he got back to the Home of the angels he was very happy to know Doggie was safe and he would get to sleep with him again. Shortly after Jennings got back to the home Sister Clair told Jennings she would be leaving to go help at a school, they were both new in the Home of the angels at the same time. When Jennings woke up, he found Doggie under his pillow with a note attached from Sister Clair that
Donna struggles to fight off the rabid dog and keep her son alive for two full days. Then she decides to escape and run for the house (Sova 120). During her attempt she is bitten by the Saint Bernard (Pette Par 7). When Donna come face to face with Cujo she makes a bold move by attacking him with a baseball bat, and she succeeds by killing Cujo. Afterward Tad dies from dehydration although Donna desperately tried to save him (Sova 120).
Dog has been “man’s best friend” for ages. Around Franklin County, almost everyone owns a dog. Since many owners are farmers, people in the Franklin County area need a dog who will be loyal, can herd livestock if need be, and is obedient to its master. The best breed of dog that fits this description is the Blue Heeler, also known as the Australian Cattle Dog. Though these dogs are better suited for the rural areas, many people in the city own them as well. Sprightly yet independent, the Australian Cattle Dogs are great companions for single people and families alike. Blue Heelers are the all-around best breed of dog in Franklin County.
Pit bulls, the most dangerous dog to ever live. People like to train Pit Bulls to fight other dogs until they are either hurt or dead. The owners that train the dogs are usually the ones that make the dog turn out to be vicious and dangerous. “Each year, 1.2 million dogs are euthanized, approximately 40% of whom are Pit Bulls”(Moore). Pit Bulls don’t know better to understand which is right from wrong since they’re being raised up to fight and protect. Pit Bulls aren’t good family dogs due to the power of their strength and that they could attack at any moment.
Everything was going great at Oakville farm, I mean everything was normal and okay how it should be if you don’t count that the fact Donna came home late last night. She came home around two or three o’clock in the morning when it was pitch black outside, and believe me this isn’t the first time it ever happened either, maybe it’s not that big of a deal to you but to me it is, Donna here is the farmer’s daughter. While Mr. Salem is away she’s the one in charge of us,and because she’s the one in charge of us we haven't eaten in two days! Mr. Salem always made sure we were cared for, and was handled with love but , Donna on the other hand she just doesn’t care. There’s a lot of us here on the farm, we have a variety of animals here like horses,
... wildly, beating his little yellow wings against the wires" (259). When Joe is around Caesar, he threatens to take the dog off his chain and release him into the town. To Louisa, taking the dog off his chain symbolically relates to her being freed from the constraints Joe is putting on her. Because she, like the dog, have been alone for so long, it would be frightening to go out and experience new things. People tend to do what they know, and for fourteen years, Louisa and her pets have been accustomed to solitude. The man's influence is seen as disruptive since it threatens change on Louisa's life. The symbolism Freeman portrays between the pets and Louisa is immense and obvious. Because of this, it is easy for the reader to make such connections. Freeman's choices make this an easy to read story that appeals to all readers at all different skill levels.
However, this by no means, was a bad read. I found this story to be very interesting and compelling, but seriously wtf? 1st I found that Shige was the only one with a combination of sense and some compassion. Example is that Shige is open to Aoyama dating but is cautious, while Aoyama's friends are usually telling him to straight up keep his distance, to stay away. And if anyone has that one friend who gets easily infatuated should know, telling them to stay away is like saying the exact opposite to them, which is exactly what happened. Another thing, who the hell was that guy in the wheelchair that freaked out when the first ate together? I had a feeling it was the stepfather, but it was never really addressed. Lastly, that ending....was so damn abrupt. "What was this all about?" "I don't know, nothing really." Lastly the so called friend Asami had to speak to her Mentor....why was that never addressed? Not that it matters since readers of the book should be able to piece together what actually happened. Final points, that sex scene was descriptive as hell and I couldn't read that with a straight face no matter how hard I tried because of laughter and absolute horror at the calm before the storm. The book begins as a mystery novel with a goal of finding the killer of the neighbor's dog, Wellington. The mystery of the dog is solved mid-way through the book, and the story shifts towards the Boone family. We learn through a series of events that Christopher has been lied to the past two years of his life. Christopher's father told him that his mother had died in the hospital. In reality she moved to London to start a new life because she was unable to handle her demanding child. With this discovery, Christopher's world of absolutes is turned upside-down and his faith in his father is destroyed. Christopher, a child that has never traveled alone going any further than his school, leaves his home in order to travel across the country to find his mother who is living in London.
My response to chapters 1-3 This novel made me remember when came in to this country and how everything was at the begging in California. We didn't know anything about here everything was so different from Mexico but my family and I had dreams just like America and Candido. When Candido got run over by Delaney it king of made me upset, because it wasn't Candido's fault and the First thing that Delaney thought of was his car, insurance discount, and the last thing was the victim. Those king of thing are thing that us Mexican have to deal with for coming to a new country to have a better future. What made me more upset was when Delaney gave hime twenty dollars. The dog they rescued is a particularly prominent topic, a vestige of the past civilizations. In defiance of the treacherous environment, the dog managed to survive, a feat that even Lisa, the most cold-blooded of the three main characters, could not help but be “impressed by” (Bacigalupi 61). Therefore, the dog is a symbol of hope for the reader, an animal that is in the extreme, completely out of its element, and yet capable of surviving. As a result, nature’s idea of itself is astoundingly resilient, keeping certain species alive as an attempt to return to the normal state of the world. Even after horrendous trauma the natural world is still capable of a stalwart attempt at reclaiming itself. Accordingly, it is never too late to start fixing the damages and help nature’s cause, before allowing it to escalate to such a degree where the oceans are black with pollution and there is no room left for the humans of today. Chen could not help but notice that the dog is different than them in more than just a physiological nature; “there’s something there” and it’s not a characteristic that either them or the bio-jobs are capable of (64). Evaluation: I thought the book was very exciting and suspenseful like her other books. The book had very good detail and an interesting plot. I liked the twist when Juan and the girl’s father came upon Glenn walking down the road. I also liked how the author described the action in great detail. It made me feel like I was right there seeing it all happen firsthand. I don’t think that the author could’ve made this book any better than she did already.
When he is young, he was bullied in school because he is nerd like. He doesn’t have many friends and he doesn’t fight back. Also when he grows up, he is hit by the three rednecks because Corso just speaks Yankee speech. When he is in the hospital, he thinks for the first time in his life that he wants to fight back and he didn’t care what he would uses. He buys a revolver but he didn’t kill the rednecks because he dreads the rednecks and the policemen. Now, Corso is the guy who killed the 2 policemen. When Corso has Andrew as his hostage, he sorts of take care of him. Then they hide in the woods and Corso tries to rid him. However, he can’t do it. When he is going to kill him, Lieutenant Tawney comes and Corso gets shot. It is a tragedy that a weak person is changed by the people who bully him. Being a murderer is the effect of bullying him.
The neglect that both Vanessa and James have for neglecting the health of their dog has eventually led to the tragic event of their dog. At the end of the story Vanessa was told by her mother that Nanuk became too aggressive to anyone outside the family to kept in the house, she soon asked her mother again for the truth that really happened to Nanuk and learned of Nanuk’s death. This is akin to the accident that James had with his pet pug, as he further neglect his dogs health he eventually left the back gate of his house open. This led to his dog running away from home, he did not realize that the gate was open until he noticed that his dog could not be seen anywhere in the house. In an attempt to find his dog he asked around the neighborhood and placed missing posters of his dog around the vicinity, but was unable to find his dog. As we grow old we are faced with many responsibilities to do, but we generally get distracted from following up to our responsibilities. This would ultimately lead to consequences, and these consequences helps us become more mature and realize the loss of something important or
Ones take of this story can be many of sorts. The dog essential may have saved this young child, his father may have chosen to throw him out the window. If the dog wasn’t there to take his place, who is to say what could had happened? It also shows how the dogs undeniable, love, devotion and eagerness to please his master. Eventually these traits, sadly left him resting lifeless in his young master’s arms. The relationships between these characters, is one of who’s pulling the strings. The abuse has been passed down from father to son. This story leaves an emptiness, with the unsettling turn of events.
