Religious doubt can be defined to be a notion of confusion towards the understanding of practiced religions, religious teachings and beliefs. This notion is a common occurrence felt by many different people during their lifespan. A lot of organized religions admire the idea of doubt within an individual's journey toward their inner truth. Religions such as Unitarian Universalism and Christianity are prime examples of organized religions that view the idea of religious doubt as an essential component within an individual's journey. There is a range of research that shows that all effects of religious doubt are not positive. Connections between mental health issues, aging, and religious doubt have been made over the years. people do not start in organized religion until an older age, the overall experience is not always positive. Different elements within the concept and practices of religions can negatively effect and overall destroy a person´s mental and physical health. Galek et al. (2007) stated that religious doubt emerging from the recognition of suffering and evil in the world has a deleterious impact on mental health. The article analyzes the study conducted of a range of individuals, all over the age of 18, attempting to locate a connection between the effects of religious doubt, mental health, and aging on the health of a person. The purpose of this paper is to critically review the aspects and research behind the conclusions found within the journal article Religious Doubt and Mental Health Across the Lifespan (Galek, Krause, Ellison, Kudler, & Flannelly, 2007). There were multiple different methods used in the experiment that took place within the journal article Religious Doubt and Mental Health Across the Lifespan.
For example, the use of a sample selection and a questionnaire was both used in order to find the results of this experiment. A total of 1,895 individuals were participants within this sample survey (Galek, Krause, Ellison, Kudler, & Flannelly, 2007). The questionnaire consisted of 135 items that helped correlate a range of data, that includes mental health, demographic traits and a range of religions. The results of this experiment lead to similar data that was found previously, associating religious doubt and a decrease in mental health problems over a series of ages. The experiment that is discussed within this article is different from previous findings because of the variety of mental health areas that were targeted within the group of participants. Within this sample of people, all from different regions and areas of the nation, everyone was religiously sound and spiritually experienced. The areas of mental health that was examined within this experiment includes depression, anxiety, phobic anxiety and interpersonal sensitivity. Galek et al. (2007) stated that as age increases both religious doubt and its deleterious net effects on psychopathology
diminish. In comparison to other arguments made by previous researchers, that religious doubt is a needed component within any organized religion, the concept of religious doubt is discussed in complete influence over a variety of mental health issues. The idea of being certain in one´s self choice is important in a lot of religions. That can lead to the emotion of guilt and shame felt by the doubters of organized religions. These doubters usually end up dealing with the idea of their doubt by themselves, without support or counsel from friends, family or peers. Afraid of the response that would be given towards their doubt or non-belief, a doubter of religion, commonly decides not to verbalize their emotions. This article clearly stands behind the belief that religious doubt can provide a negative and a positive outcome, depending on the person experiencing it. Doubt is known to be born from a sense of stress, which also can be harbored within the relationship of a person and their religion. Galek et al. (2007) concluded that the current study assessed the connection between religious doubt and psychopathology exclusively.
After reading a few of the chapters in "Psychology Through the Eyes of Faith", I feel as if I have learned more in one sitting than many in years of my life. The chapters were not life altering, but simply stated things that I have overlooked. The topics that affected me most were on living with the mysteries of faith, benefits of true rest, and the emotion of happiness. Yes, they are really in no way related, but each of these topics impacted me in a different way, and made me think about what was being presented.
Religion is one of the most scared aspects a person has in his or her life; for many practitioners
Life is full of frustrations and confusion. There are times that questioning the purpose of one’s life to be living at all from their belief and faith in the one they believe. Christian Adherents are faced with these issues and are misguided by the loquacious talk of philosophers and scientists that seem to argue that the existence of human beings have been derived by something else other than God. These are illustrated through various forms of media and deem to be very convincing for most. However, there are people and ideas of the Christian Religion to comply back with what is said against it. Pope John XXIII was a significant role model for the Christian Religion as he showed true belief and faith to God through his deeds. Topics in debate of Bioethical issues are in question and the practices of the Christian belief are fact to the individual of the means of questioning the purpose here on Earth. Regarding the letter from Paul to the Corinthians, it says “Be on guard; stand firm in faith; be men of courage, be strong.” Its significance to believers is that they can be deceived in time of desperation and at times of hardship but God tells them to stay strong in faith and in courage no matter the distress they are facing.
As far as mankind’s history can date, religion has had quite an intimate relationship with people. Although maybe it hasn’t always been identified in the same way as we identify religion today, spread across the world we have the remains of pyramids, temples, and even written in ancient texts from centuries ago dedicated to god, to the afterlife, to what lies on the other side. And up to today’s times, religion has grown along with man.

Sigurdardottir’s et al. Scholars have been trying to come up with a well-founded, acceptable and universal definition of religion for years; however, none of these definitions so far are a perfect fit for all religions of the world. There are many things in our life that are well defined and well understood but, unfortunately, religion is not one of them. There is no common ground and understanding of what religion really means. Religion is what we make of it, so no one can truly define religion in a way that is meaningful across all borders as it is outside of the realm of reason and rationale and the definitions we give could be either too exclusive or inclusive.
In today’s society, there are a large number of individuals who are on the pursuit for spiritual development that is consistent with their “belief that spirituality is vital for growth and essential for dealing with life’s problems” (Morrison, Clutter, Pritchett, & Demmitt, 2009). Even moreso it’s no surprise to learn about the movement among the vast number of clients seeking to address concerns of spirituality within their counseling sessions.

The Religious Knowledge Quiz asked fifteen questions related to world religions and the primary Christianity questions that make up a good majority of the US population. The quiz was used to analyze the levels of religious literacy in the United States, an extremely religiously diverse country, and to see if any one religious scored higher than the others. The purpose was to show how important religion is in human society and how many religions there are in day-to-day life among peers, coworkers, and businesses. I asked six students outside of the Honors College to take the quiz: Three boys and three girls. I didn’t ask ahead of time what their religious background was, but I instead saved that question for after they finished the quiz so they could compare themselves to other people of that religion.
What is Christianity and why has it been able to develop into a continuously growing and evolving religion?
The religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are alike in many ways but they also share many differences. Judaism and Christianity use the bible in their holy scriptures, while Islam does not. Jesus Christ is a part of all three religions as Christianity and Islam developed from Judaism. Many believe that the three religions worship, pray to, and focus on the same god. They believe this as many of the prophets are they share much in common as they share many beliefs. However, the followers of the three religions pray differently and in different places. the religions believe that their god created the world and everything in the world. The three Abrahamic religions have different histories, yet they share many similarities and difference.
Religion structures a religious person’s life. More than three quarters of the world’s population consider they belong to a religion.
The shepherd and sheep relationship is the best illustration for the relationship between pastor and parishioners. When Jesus asked Simon Peter does he love him three times and said to him “Feed my sheep”, the shepherd and flock relationship has been set. Since Jesus is our good shepherd (Jn. 10:11a), he laid out a good example for us to follow - to lay down his life for the sheep. (Jn. 10:11b) Thus, the wellness of both in and out of the parishioners should always be the concern in the pastors’ hearts. Soul care for the people is essential. Christian friendship is the foundation of Christian soul care. Pastoral ministry including preaching, teaching, and worship forms the broad context of pastoral counseling. Pastoral care is within pastoral ministry but broader than pastoral counseling. God’s love is the source and motivation. Within the pastoral care, there are spiritual direction and pastoral
Spirituality can have many different definitions, depending on who is asked. It can be something as simple as looking for a higher meaning to life, or something so complex that one can base their beliefs, religion and overall life around it. There are several different ways to express one's spirituality; rituals, songs, dances, stories, and writings are all common methods of expression.
