Comparing and Contrasting Relationships Essay Jim and Huck are two entirely different ages with two separate personalities. These two characters come from the story The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn; this story shows proof that although two people may be entirely different, they both may build a relationship closer than most people who have many identical characteristics when compared to one another. Huck and Jim both long for freedom from the controlling household they live within. The only difference about their freedoms is Huck is a child who wants to be living a world far from the indoor house life, school and from adults who tell him what to do. His maturity level isn’t so bright or open minded to what reality is. Jim who also lives in the same house as Huck, is a grown man yet he still constantly gets told what to do and is treated as some animal of the house. The first reason to come to mind as to why he’s treated differently is because of his skin color. The story takes place back to when slavery was a very common attribute in America and owning a slave was also just as common. Jim wants to be free and see the equal side of humanity but at the same time he does not plan to take chances escaping for he would most likely be caught and be beaten or seen as a fugitive. He would have to be on the run for a long period of time in order to escape. Jem and Scout both are children whom are on separate levels of maturity but are completely aware of the situations going on around them such as that going on in the court about a black man known by the name Tom Robinson being falsely accused of raping a girl named Mayella. To Kill a Mockingbird is partially about freedom just like the other novel; Tom Robinson who is being held on trial is waiting for his freedom to move on from all the scandal that he and many others are fully aware he was not guilty of. Many judged and believe it was Tom Robinson right from the very start of this girl’s false claim of rape just because of his race and quickness to believe someone who is their own color even with no evidence
