Any individual that leads a healthy lifestyle will say that healthy living is more than just a fad or goal, it’s a way of life. Changing certain aspects of one’s current lifestyle to become healthier is not the final goal, rather, the objective of setting these short and long term goals is maintenance. Therefore, I choose to change an aspect of my current lifestyle that I felt would facilitate the improvement of my health and would later become a change that I can maintain over the course of my life; I choose to increase the amount of water I drink per day to improve my inner bodily health. On my sheet is listen the day, followed by three empty boxes. My goal for each day is to drink one full bottle of water before lunch and then another full bottle by dinner or the end of the evening. Each box corresponds to one 24oz bottle of water. In addition to the log I also set a basic set of criteria as to what constitutes a “poor”, “good” and “excellent” day. On a poor day only one box is checked off as I have only drank one bottle of water, while a good and excellent day indicates that I drank 2 or more bottles of water that day. Since I am very aware of my tendency to use motivation or level of convenience as an excuse for not completing a task, I set alarms on my cell phone for 7:00a.m and 12:30 p.m. as designated times to refill my water bottle. I choose those times because those times are the most convenient; I wake up for class at 7:00 in the morning so as soon as I wake up I fill the water bottle and bring it with me to class. Moreover, I learned that effecting even the smallest change in my lifestyle can be extremely difficult at first since breaking a habit is the first, but often the most challenging step. With this change did come certain repercussions, as well as benefits to my health. In the beginning, I drank less coffee in the morning in order to drink more water, this caused mild headaches for the first few weeks of the change, however, now that I do drink more water in place of other less-hydrating drinks, I have seen a steady decrease in the amount of headaches I drink. I even hope to return to my physician this summer and inquire whether I can be taken off my headache prevention medication. This realization has been the most exciting and rewarding aspect of this
