“Bullying is a repeated behavior which is intended to hurt someone either emotionally or physically, and is often aimed at certain people because of their race, religion, gender or sexual orientation or any other aspect such as appearance or disability”. Bullying comes in many forms such as verbal, social, physical or cyber bullying. Bullying is an event that is often seen in schools today. Children bully for various reasons like the need for control and power, to gain peer attention, bias issues, inadequate adult supervision or maybe they themselves have been bullied. I intend to integrate different ways of preventing this anti-social behavior in the aid of promoting a positive classroom environment with the use of differentiated instructions. Firstly, I intend to set an example by being a positive role model to my students so they can embody my examples by treating all students with warmth and respect. A special time in each day would be appointed to give students the opportunity to talk about bullying because, most times students are afraid or too embarrassed to speak up. And letting them know that I am available to listen and help. Students would be allowed to participate in the classroom rulemaking process, to inspire their interest in following them. Each day at the beginning of class the rules would be revised in the effort to remind students what is expected of them. They would be informed that there would be consequences to their actions toward breaking the rules. Immediate action would be taken against any rule broken, this is to remind students that each rule should be taken seriously.Classroom surveys would be conducted asking students to reflect on their social experiences, to reassure their understanding of bullying. Some educational ways that would be used in preventing bullying among students in my classroom would be by instilling values. Value is an important subject on the topic of bullying, it encourages students, to practice honesty, kindness, politeness, sharing, caring, obedient, forgiving, love, fairness and much more, which will in return help promote positivity and discipline in the students. To know how to prevent bullying, it’s important to note when these actions first become visible. It can be seen that bullying occurs most often in schools, then at work places. It is known that many schools stress and make efforts to stop bullying because younger kids are more susceptible to bullying. They have more difficulty defending themselves. However, this is not always the case. The teens who were involved in the shootings were bullied and decided to take revenge which led to the killing and injures of many people. Bullying in school arises as a global issue, and people are becoming more aware of its essence and its consequences. Going to school should be like a second home, a safe, compliant place, but for some student, school can be a social nightmare. Some may view bullying as a harmless act, but it is in fact a dangerous act. Students that have been bullied tend to be emotionally unstable, depressed, loss of interest in school and they have a higher risk of becoming drug addicts and school dropout. Bullying is not act that is covered in any federal law yet, but all 50 states have anti-bullying policies. Bullying is a crime because it can cause bodily harm or mental anguish to the victim. What are some strategies that can be used to help hinder bullying? One suggestion is to implement an intervention program in schools. A Norwegian study published in The British Journal of Educational Psychology, aimed to “evaluate the effects of anti- bullying intervention program targeting group as a whole. Bullying by definition is a form of aggressive behavior in which someone intentionally and repeatedly causes another person injury or discomfort. With social media outlets and text messaging added to the game, bullying is not just about getting tormented face to face anymore. But the other outlets, such as cyber bullying are definitely not something to take lightly or consider low on a scale of importance. Bullying has been a part of schooling for as long as children have been congregating. To some it seems like a natural, though uncomfortable, part of life and school experience, while to others it can mean terrifying experiences which spoiled and characterized otherwise happy years in school. Dan Olweus, a pioneer in bully behavior research documented that 2.7 million children are affected as victims, and that 2.1 children act as bullies (Fried, 1997, as cited in Aluedse, 2006). With bullying cited as the reason for violent, gun-related crime in the past few years, school districts as well as national governments have put anti-bullying policies in place. Bullying is a complicated phenomenon, involving more than one child demanding lunch money from a smaller child. It is a worldwide epidemic hitting schools everywhere. Virtually everyone has seen or experienced bullying. With technological advances, bullying is even hitting the internet. Parents, teachers, students and governments agencies alike are attempting to put a stop to bullying practices.
The first tier and arguably the most important is the students. Students should have an expectation of how to treat others and feel comfortable telling a teacher if there is a situation they need help with. Teachers should look out for early signs of bullying and think of an effective strategy to stop it. Personally, I believe that ‘team-based’ learning is the most effective method of reducing bullying. By creating a team atmosphere, students should be more encouraged to work together and give each other support to achieve a common goal. Offering incentives for everyone to perform well could distract students who are likely to bully their classmates. Next, administrators carry the important task of monitor student behavior trends and implement school policies to combat bullying. My suggestion for administrative policy against bullying is the ‘zero-tolerance’ method. Bullying in any form is unacceptable and should not be allowed on school
In recent times bullying has become a national issue, notwithstanding the fact that it has been in existence for many years. Traditionally, bullying has been seen as horseplay, but with the increase of harassment in schools and suicides; parents and schools are now forced to take action to prevent bullying in schools. Bullying is an unwanted, aggressive behavior that involves a real or perceived power imbalance which has the potential to be repeated over time. Strategies to prevent bullying in schools are grouped into identifying the causes of bullying, creating policies and rules, building a safe environment and educating students and staff.

Bullying does not have a standard definition. Bullying can be anything from calling someone else names, beating them up just for the fun of it, to texting or messaging them on the internet or any mobile device. Any person can be the victim of bullying, not just children. Bullying causes many issues, physically, emotionally, and mentally, not only for the victim, but for their entire families as well. Bullies have many different reasons as to why they start bullying someone else. The actions done to the victim leaves them with only a few options on how to stop being bullied. How they handle it is always different.
“Researchers have conducted that at least 25% of all children will be affected by bullying at some point during their school years, and many of these children miss significant numbers of school days each year owing to fear of being bullied” (Bray, M., Kehle, T., Sassu, K. (2003). Bullying has become a major problem for our students and our schools. Children are missing educational time and are losing self-confidence because they are afraid or intimidated by other students. We, as teachers, need to reduce bullying in our schools and prevent bullying from being a reoccurring issue in the lives of our students in order for them to learn, grow and develop. Our goal as teachers should be “to reduce as much as possible-ideally to eliminate completely- existing bully/victim problems in and out of the school setting and to prevent the development of new problems” (Olweus, D. (1993).

Bullying is when someone tries to hurt another person by hitting them or by simply hurting them with their words. Bullying is something that can have a huge impact on its victims. It might be something that lasts throughout their lives, or something that might cause them to take their lives. Bullies make small groups so that they can pick on other students who are small, fragile, and who can not defend themselves. Picking on someone should not be accepted because it can affect a person's well being in a drastic way. Bullying is believed to be a normal part of school life. However, when people begin to have that mentality they forget that bullying is psychologically and physically harmful to both the victim and the bully.
Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others. Having the students get involved seems to have the most positive effect on the bullying issue in public school systems.
