I have planned my lesson this way starting with the aim, goals, primary and secondary problems and ways to solve them to create a non exhaustive document that describes every classroom scenarios. Providing me with a general outline of my teaching goals, learning objectives and means to carry out them. Though I know that it cannot go exactly as planned, but I know that both students and myself will learn from each other.
I chose the topic because many students find the difference between present perfect tense and past simple very confusing. To help them, I have created this lesson plan to help them hoping they will get to understand the difference between the two tenses and how to apply it when speaking, writing and reading.

This is a reflection activity that will give students the opportunity to self-assess their performance and show on what they have learned.
Pair activity, the activity allows students to communicate and the use of tenses in their daily life’s and how tenses used when speaking.
Dialogue questions, it's an activity that is good for drilling and allowing the teacher to see which part of the lesson is lacking that requires drilling. Assessing students through speaking and listening, the feedback from the students will also show the extent to which students achieved the goal of developing effective storytelling using past simple and present perfect.

Each student will take a quiz, asking them two questions on the lesson. This will assess whether the objectives were accomplished.
Santrock gives the examples of, “writing about the American revolution in five minutes.” After the free write is completed, students can share ideas with other students. By doing so, students can listen to ideas that they may not have thought of. Having students collaborate and talk about the free write allows them to generate ideas together and allow the subject to sink deeper into their learning. What is pivotal in assessment is that it enhances teaching and learning; it is also the crucial link between learning outcomes, the content that is taught and learning activities. Furthermore, Sieborger (1998) states that assessment is a reciprocal process; as it is used by both learners and teachers to decide where the learners are at in their learning and where they need to go and how best to get there. The characteristics that Sieborger identifies to be contained in assessment are made up of: tasks, exercises, tests and exams, which are set and assessed by educators.
As teachers we plan our lessons and think to ourselves, "my students are going to love this lesson and will be able to understand what I am teaching", but sometimes that isn 't the case. You may plan a lesson in hopes that your students understand but it doesn 't go as planned. Every student learns differently and thinks differently and because of this we, as teachers must learn to differentiate our lessons. This may require us to change the way we deliver our lesson, change the activities for our lessons or even change the wording of our material so students understand. In this paper, I will be differentiating a lesson plan based on student readiness, student interest and student learning profile for content, process, and product.
Taking into account the students’ background, I developed this lesson to help them comprehend the targeted grammatical features (gerunds and infinitives) and make them able to use those features in communication with others. The students, as mentioned in the lesson plan, take this class in the evening, which means that they most likely work during the day and probably need to communicate using the language in their work settings. Therefore, it is important to give as many opportunities as possible for the students to use the targeted features in interactive activities, such as interviews and group works. I expect these activities to not only promote negotiation of meaning that is useful for language learning (Long, 1996), but also push them to produce comprehensible output, which also facilitates learning (Swain, 1993).
A major proportion of class time is taken up by teachers talking in front of the classroom(Nunan & Bailey, 2009). No matter what teaching strategies or methods a teacher uses, it is necessary to give directions, explain activities and check students’ understanding (Richards & Schimdt, 1985). This clearly emphasizes the importance of teacher talk in language classrooms. Walsh (2011) claimed that teacher talk is more important in language classroom than any other classroom since in this context the language being used by teacher is not only the means of acquiring new knowledge; it is also the goal of the study.
Throughout the course of the lesson, it may take multiple sessions before the student is ready to independently practice the skills learned. Anticipated lesson duration is included with each lesson plan provided in this instructional unit. Madeline Hunter’s Seven Steps of Instruction includes stating the objectives, anticipatory set, teacher input, modeling, checking for understanding, guided practice, and independent practice (Hunter, 2004). For the purpose of this instructional unit, input and modeling have been condensed into a streamlined event; as well has, checking for understanding and guided practice. This form of lesson planning is preferred within the Elkin City Schools district and lends itself to the creation of engaging lessons.
As teachers, we have to monitor the progress our students make each day, week, quarter and year. Classroom assessments are one of the most crucial educational tools for teachers. When assessments are properly developed and interpreted, they can help teachers better understand their students learning progress and needs, by providing the resources to collect evidence that indicates what information their students know and what skills they can perform. Assessments help teachers to not only identify and monitor learners’ strengths, weaknesses, learning and progress but also help them to better plan and conduct instruction. For these reasons, ongoing classroom assessment is the glue that binds teaching and learning together and allows educators to monitor their efficacy and student learning.

Through the implementation of my lesson, I learned I have to work on the assessment and the details of lesson planning. During the planning of this lesson, the assessment was an aspect that needed more thought. The students had a problem with reading the words for the word sort and understanding the writing section. If I were to reteach the lesson I would add pictures to the words on the word sort to help the students to read and understand the words. In addition, I would include a sentence strip for the assessment that the students could copy but then finish the sentence on their own. The writing prompt was too hard for the students, I received various answers some students copied the prompt only while other students understood it and wrote appropriate answers.
I will try to prepare my lesson 100% to enhance learning. I will try to research my topic and try to integrate different resources and activities to make my lesson engaging and interesting to my students. I am able to use a variety of methods to teach a lesson to the students. This helps the students to get engaged visually, physically and verbally. I did not know, but I really like to use different resources and art materials to create something that will enhance my lesson and able to engage my students throughout the lesson. By creating and using a variety of methods and activities during the center time, I can meet the student’s needs to help them to learn.
In the process of completing this coursework, I have realised that every teacher should be all-rounded and equipped with adequate skills of educating others as well as self-learning. As a future educator, we need make sure that our knowledge is always up-to-date and applicable in the process of teaching and learning from time to time. With these skills, we will be able to improvise and improve the lesson and therefore boost the competency of pupils in the process of learning. In the process of planning a lesson, I have changed my perception on lesson planning from the student’s desk to the teacher’s desk.
