During class we played anger games. The first game we played was Hidden Rules and the second game we played was Escape from Anger Island. The hardest part of the activity was that we had to stop playing the game. The easiest part of the activity was playing the game.

During this activity I learned that Sasha is very competitive like myself. I also learned that Sasha has a hard time saying sorry and when she does say sorry she laughs. Another thing I learned from this activity is that Friztline does not allow her children to use a calculator. Based on what I learned from this activity, I noticed different strengths and weaknesses within the group. For instances, our strengths are that we trust each other, we all respect each other and also we have a sense of cohesive. My strengths as a group member are that I am very talkative, motivating, fun and helpful. My weaknesses as a group member are that I tend to talk negative about my self and sometimes I feel stupid about things a say. Something that the group members learned from this activity that may help them in there daily life is that when they become a therapist or if they have kids who have anger issues they can play these fun games with them to help them manage their anger. Something that I learned about group members that may help me understand the needs of others in future groups that I lead or participate in is that I need to be understanding when the is a group member does not want to talk because during this activity members had to read different cards that they picked up however sometimes they refused to read the card. Something I learned about myself during this group activity that may help me handle a future situation in this group is I need to be understandable to members when they do not wish to talk during an activity. Furthermore, something I learned about myself that may help me in the future outside of this class is that I should always try to not feel stupid or insecure when ever I am part of a group or around other people because usually people like my fun uplifting
My analysis is on the film The Goonies. While I view the movie and determine the various norms, behaviors, roles and interaction between group members, as well as individuals the examination within the realm of film can present many of the same components. Thus, our group selected this movie to analyze based on its formation of a cohesive problem-solving group full of unforgettable characters. It is important that the group be focused on the here and now with members staying present. Although the group is concerned with a members past experiences and lifestyle of members, that is for the purpose of gaining insight into current maladaptive thoughts and behaviors. In addition, it is important to maintain an empathetic relationship which is based on mutual respect and trust so that members feel understood and accepted by the facilitator. The group leader challenges group member’s goals and beliefs about themselves and the world around them to help them to translate what was learned during the process of group and turn what was learned into new ideas and new beliefs.
After watching the Pixar film “Inside Out”, it is easy to see how this film relates to small group communication. This film focuses on a twelve year old girl name Riley and how the emotions in her brain work throughout everyday experiences. The emotions Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust work inside headquarters of Riley’s brain, that is until Joy and Sadness accidentally wind up far from headquarters into long-term memory. I will be analyzing this film using concepts from the textbook such as group communication, group development, group membership, and diversity in groups.
I plan to overcome my weakness by practicing math problems and to not feel overwhelmed when I have to attend to a question that requires math expertise. I will acquire math tutors, asks the teacher to explain it in more detail, or even do my own personal research. Performing a group presentation may certainly be difficult for me; However, I can practice at it. I will acquire self-talk to decrease the apprehensiveness going on in my mind. Also, I can try not to worry about what the other group members are thinking while I’m talking. I can go over everything I’m going to present with my group before actually speaking it in front of the audience. Lastly, I can get feedback from the group members to fix any errors that might occur. In closing, I’m a very talented person that works hard and I will put forth all the effort required to accomplish my goals.
Communication within a group in society today is a skill that can enhance the habits of a successful team. When individuals decided to work as a team, it is no longer about that one person it becomes about several individuals acting as one. Team members must fully understand the common goal of the group and also must understand their individual role as a team. Once each member realizes that the work they do individually still affect the group that is the first habit acquired towards a successful team. In additional habit for a successful team is by earning each team member’s trust will insure the communication and growth within the team. As well, focusing on how you communicate is a big part the growth of the team.
Everyone has felt anger or aggression many times in there life. It happens all of the time. We all face the same challenge of trying to control our temper. It may be easier for some people than it is for others. Many studies show that it is healthy for a person to let out their anger once in a while. They believe that it will help in your relationship with others and that it will increase your self-esteem. They also believe that holding anger in is bad and unhealthy for your body. If you let the anger build up it could go from just being a verbal argument to a point in which someone or something is hurt or destroyed. To control your anger you should release your aggression in a way that is not harmful to others or yourself. People that look into a problem more closely can control their anger better. These people get all of the facts and make a proactive decision. Also by looking into the problem your may find out that it wasn't as bad as you first thought. Looking into the problem will also help you look at the consequences of the action you are going to take. Researchers also believe that tv and movies have an impact on the ways we release our aggression. They believe that in some way we are all influenced in some way by movies and tv shows that we watch. If we can learn to control our anger we will see that our life, and everyone else's life is a lot safer and more peaceful.
In a team-oriented setting, everyone contributes to how well the group succeeds overall. You work with fellow members of the group to complete the work that needs to be done. Having the right people in the correct roles is an important factor in measuring the success of a team, where you are united with the other members to complete the main goals. Every group is made up of definite strengths and weaknesses. Our team's 3-5 major strengths necessary to work accordingly consist of Informer, Summarizer, Orienter, Piggy-Backer, and Encourager. One of our strengths as a team is that we get input from everyone involved. Every member of our team is a leader in some way. Part of being a good leader is knowing how important it is to receive the best ideas from each member of their team. We attend group meetings where we discuss any challenges, issues, and problems. At these meetings, we often exchange ideas or brainstorm new ones with each other and come up with the best and most creative team solutions as potential answers to those perceived problems.

A group must firstly consist of more than three members, “Two members have personal relationships; with three or more there is a change in quality” of the personal relationship. (Bion 1961, p26) The group must have a common purpose or a goal in order to succeed. From the beginning, where we were unfamiliar with each other and became a team, my team and I had started to learn each other name and getting to know each other. Throughout each meeting, we slowly start to feel more comfortable and open minded with each other. Not only are we getting familiar with each other, each meeting that was held we progress of becoming an effective team member, we learn our strengths and weaknesses of everyone. I work well in group situations. I always try to encourage all members to participate and contribute. It is interesting to note that in most situations, I tend to be one of the group leaders. I do have a strong personality. Yet I try not to come across as controlling or bossy.
