World of work is an informative course with a great deal of information associated with our personal life as well as workplace. I personally have learned how to mitigate my fear and anxiety of presenting in front of a group of classmates and that will be very helpful for me when I get a job in the future in order to be more open and bold when talking to others and most importantly in my personal life. I was asked through this course to make an interview with one of the workers in order to learn how to gain good communication skills with the rest of the team and the interviewer, gain confident and also to enhance the ability to be a good listener as well as being patient through all the pressure and disagreements. Having positive emotions can help us get through everything in life, whether its college related or just our daily routine so it’s important to be surrounded by positive energy. Being engaged is important because by giving ourselves a break helps us produce more. It’s very important to be surrounded by the people we love and share all the good vibes to help lifting us up. It’ll be necessary for me to feel that the work I’m doing is consistent with my personal values and beliefs for it to matter. Accomplishment is creating and working toward goals because successes make us feel more confident and optimistic about future. From a previous experience I can say that it’s very important to be happy with the work you’re doing in order to produce more and feel good about yourself. There are many factors for us to be satisfied with our work, for example: job security, is when you’re not worried about losing your job and keep your rights as a worker. Making good money, when we receive rewards for our work, it makes us feel more satisfied with our jobs. Less stress, job satisfaction increases when we can enjoy a stress-free environment in which we know we’re
One would have to be a fool to believe that men and women have always been or even are equal. Only in the past century have women been allowed to vote and 50 years since women of color could vote. Even today, women and men are held to different standards. Betty Friedan (1921-2006) was a feminist that was not only an author, but also, the first president of an organization known as the National Organization for Women. She is well-known for her work "The Feminine Manifesto", and she is the author of the article "The Importance of Work". Betty Friedan was a feminist during the height of the women's rights movement, so it is not surprising in the least that her article hit on women's rights. "The Importance
What a person does to make a living often defines who that person is. Because so much time and energy is invested into work, work is often seen as an extension of oneself. One of the first questions that someone asks after meeting you for the first time is about what you do for a living. The belief is that by knowing what you do, one should be able to tell something about who you are. People almost never ask the more telling question of whether or not you are happy. They rely on the nature of the occupation to tell them something about your happiness. If you are a doctor, lawyer, or celebrity, it is assumed you are happy because of the money associated with those occupations. For some, income is a determinate of happiness. Granted, money is a major determinant, but not the only determinant of happiness. Happiness on the job is better determined by the support to values that a job provides.
Job satisfaction is an important issue to address within a work force because it ensures that the employees’ care and value is considered. If the company puts effort into making their employees happy with their work, then this will produce positive outcomes. This includes having more people wanting to work for the company, the employees will want to stay longer, increased productivity and the company will gain an exceptional reputation. When employee satisfaction is not addressed, the ...
Positive psychology utilizes five pillars in order to flourish, achieve fulfillment, and satisfaction in life: Positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment (PERMA). The five mainstays of positive psychology are not intended to be means to some other end; these foundations are selected for their own value in personal efforts to flourish, and are fundamental to human well-being. Positive psychology describes the “good life” as being pleasant, engaging, meaningful, and full of achievements and connections. Seligman proposes positive subjective experiences illicit and promote positive emotions. During March 2016, in Stage 1 of the pharmacy degree, I attended a two day work placement in a community pharmacy as part of the Work Based Learning module within the Capability unit. The purpose of Work Based Learning is to increase engagement with learning and to develop skills specific to patient pathways. This will link to Stage 4 of the MPharm course in which the main unit is Patient Centred Care. Therefore, it is imperative that I enhance my patient education skills through my own education.

Throughout this term I have learned a lot about my values, attitudes, and beliefs, and I feel confident in my growing skills as a counsellor. In my first journal, I discussed how I am in the process of discovering my own triggers and how I am surprised that my triggers do not necessarily correlate with what I would deem as the most distressing experiences of my life. As I have started the process of self-reflection and awareness, I have learned more specifically what my triggers are, my physiological and psychological reactions to them, and ways that I can overcome them to not impact the session. Throughout this term, other
During my work experience at , I was fortunate enough to have experienced firsthand and learned, many different sides of what goes into a project, the general process of how a project is initially planned, developed and completed; as well as how much work and detail goes into every stage. Another valuable lesson I have learned during these 12 weeks, were the many different types of work an Engineer has to perform, which in turn, have provided me with more insight into the different types of roles and responsibilities that I could perform, as a Civil Engineer.
Based off of the gratification an individual contains towards their work, job satisfaction is a key. There are multiple internal and external factors in job satisfaction that can impact the behavior of an employee and engagement over time. The way the worker’s attitude concerning their field affects the performance they perform on a daily basis. One who is satisfied with the job they do, succeeds at what they do.
It is important that employees do not fear for their jobs, are stressed of their tasks and their deadlines, etc. Employee happiness should be one of the most important topics for any organizations. If they are happy, they are more likely to focus on their own tasks, work hard, and create a good environment. If they are stressed they are more likely to make mistakes and influence the environment
This summer’s course in ‘Business and Society’ was a great opportunity for me to learn more about myself, my perspective of business, the role of government in society, policy makers and most importantly the views of the stakeholders. For the spring semester gone and this summer session almost all classes were tied into my major, giving me a better understanding on what I want out of my degree. My major here at Marymount Manhattan College is Finance and this class has surely helped me in figuring out, the workings of ‘big business’ and its impact on stakeholders. This course has helped me understand why many laws, at one point to me sounded absurd, but are in place to protect both industry and stakeholder. I never thought communication was such a priority in the business world until taking this class. From newly learnt material I see communication as a
