Anyone who was to walk into the gym of Hendrickson High School, during the Texas Forensics Association meet in May, could potentially experience a wave of anxious tension and heat hurled their way by several hundred students preparing for what they believed was the climactic moment of their high school careers. As if by command of a composer dictating the absolute need for synchronization, heels clacking on the surface of hardwood, hundreds of pens clicking and the whispers of several hundred ambitious orators wanting to make a difference in the world could be audibly felt. The repetitive cycle of traveling across the nation every weekend to deliver speeches and construct creative argumentation becomes almost a guilty second nature to many …show more content…
Whereas many challenges in student’s academic careers tend to be focused on the preparation needed to succeed, this step is what I enjoyed and actively participated in. Every week on Wednesday’s as soon as I took a step into room 202 after school, the debate workshop forum, I heard the loud objections and grunts of inspired individuals who believed they had just cracked the next great idea on how to solve world poverty or institutional racism. Starting from October of my freshmen year, without fail every Wednesday this discussion would consistently bring me back wanting to learn and hear more from my peers, the debate coach and college students who would give their two cents at times. The night before a tournament, when the clock displayed “2: 00 A.M.”, in daunting, large bold letters, and I knew that I was only half way finished with preparing, it gave me a certain sense of pride that the work I was putting in now would play a major role in my success the next day. Prior to debate, I felt that maybe the reason I wasn’t as successful as my parents wanted me to be was because I simply lacked the talent necessary. Fortunately for me, the work ethic I developed while looking to the end goal of winning rounds as a reward allowed me to better that with the right amount of effort,
Other evidence located within the grave consisted of a generic watch, two cigarette butts, a button, a washer and a shell casing. All of these could be analysed for finger prints and DNA. The cigarette butts would also show a serial number indicating the brand (shown in Figure 3), which can be useful if it is found a victim or offender smokes a particular type of cigarette.
...ntegration of student-faculty conferences, educational facilities will become places full of smiling, bright scholars. As a current student in high school, it is very easy to see these issues in the education system. Each day I walk the halls beside exhausted zombies who debate whether they should use their lunch periods to get math help in the library or sacrifice a club so they could read a chapter of anatomy that is not even relative to what they talk about in class. Due to the ever-increasing competition and subsequent elevation in performance standards, kids’ academic and emotional prosperity is only going to get worse. When I am an adult and have children, there is nothing more that I would love to see in their long drives through high school than an improvement in the education system, so that they would not have to struggle through school my peers and I did.
William Cronon’s article “Only Connect’: The Goals of a Liberal Education” was a fascinating read as it exemplified that what made an individual a good student was not a proficiency in certain subjects, but rather a set of ten qualities that made a good character. My top strength of intellection is certainly an asset in college, at least in terms of academic success. One of Cronon’s characteristics was that a good student respects rigor, especially in the pursuit of the truth, something that I endeavor to do anytime I am in an academic setting. Every single class I have ever signed up for has been challenging in some way, not only because it looks good to take the challenging course, but also for my own benefit. I would have gained nothing without some degree of challenge, for example, if I had not taken an extremely demanding biology course in high school, I would not have discovered how much I love biology and want to go into a biology-based career. My strength of intellection allows me not only perform well academically but it also gives the knowledge to explore my options. Because of this I will seek out the truth in order to expand upon my own knowlege and wisdom. Another one of Cronon’s values that I hope to embody is the understanding of how to get things done, something that I have related to my deliberative strength. I am the first to admit that I am a horrible procrastinator however, I also will always get my assignments done, whether it is an essay or simply doing laundry. Due to this very serious personality flaw I have essentially taught myself how to be more deliberative, I have to be deliberative otherwise I would never get anything done. I now understand that if you have a task then you are obligated to complete that task, and sometimes
I genuinely believe that peer interaction is a vital component in the development of academics as well as character in which I have the skill set and experience to do so. Growing up in a diverse and culturally rich community exposed me to various personalities and constructed me to undergo everything with an open mind. My unique background will expand the boundaries of the Honors Program with the incorporation of my personal experiences. With my strong work ethic and my willingness to explore a vast scope of courses, I can be an integral influencer in peer-to-peer learning environments. My preparation for every course beforehand assures my ability to participate and contribute during each class. I am always on top of my workload which proves that I would be an active student in classroom discussions and have thorough development in my research opportunities. I will be the thermostat in this program by setting the emotional and personal climate and setting examples for other students with a vision that we will all strive for the extra mile inside and out of the classroom. My passion to learn and the dedication I hold to my studies exemplify the type of student needed in this program. I hold the ambition that is needed to be successful in the Honors Program at the University of Georgia.
When candidates are competing for an award, a job, or an honor, they often use the qualities of their character as evidence as to why they deserve it. I certainly understand and believe in the necessity of qualifications; however, I have also always believed that having a plan of what one will do with a certain honor is an integral part of deserving it. That is why this essay is not about my previous accomplishments. This essay is a declaration of my ideas to serve as a representative of Seton Hill University by making the community, state, and country a better place for all.
Because of this, I was selected to Party Secretary and, along with three other appointees, was left to organize the debate. The four of us worked tirelessly, and on the day of the debate, it payed off. It is one of my prouder honors to say that that we four appointees had kept five hundred of our peer organized and in check throughout an entire two hour long political debate. Looking back on this, I realized how much I learned from the experience. I had learned to succeed but I had also learned to fail. I overcame a discouraging loss and ultimately made it farther than I think I would have had I won the senatorial election. I also learned to work with others. Those three appointees and I were given a task that would have been impossible to do alone. However, through collaboration and hard work, we were able to pull it off, surprising even ourselves. All that I learned about myself that week has helped my through life since, and I believe it will allow me to succeed at Penn

Today, there are TV shows such as Crime Scene Investigation and Naval Crime Scene Investigation that use technology developed for real-life forensic science teams, individuals who are responsible for collecting evidence at a crime scene. Since technology is constantly entering every aspect of our lives, there is no doubt that solving crimes is becoming much easier than in past decades and the field of forensic science is one of the fastest growing in the United States. Even though technology has advanced over the years to improve the quality of the science, there is always room for improvement. Up-and-coming advancements in DNA testing, computers, forensic ballistics, 3-D imaging, alternate light photography, and forensic Carbon-14 dating are having great effects in forensic science.
As a young lady, I have been able to develop and procure the benefits of an outstanding education through various situations in my day to day life, both as an intern and as an undergraduate student at Fordham University. Throughout my experiences, I have taken advantage of many learning opportunities. Regardless of any environment, I have the ability to learn and develop as a person. I believe it is my strength to keep going and never give up that has led me to be very well-defined and the changes I undergo every day that passes will lead me to ultimate success. Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to accomplish something for myself, my future and change my life forever. I always believed that setting goals and pushing myself towards
I credit my current and future success to an issue I faced as a kid. When I was younger, I had a hearing issue that caused me to fall behind academically, this required me to work in order to catch up, spending my summer vacation working through education programs to get back on the proper academic track. While things have never been easy, I feel that experience helped to develop the work ethic and determination that I have currently. I am a person that needs to work harder than the rest in order to succeed academically, which allowed me to get accepted and thrive at UConn, a Top 20 rated University in the country. My goal is to work as hard as I can so at the end of the day I can look back and have no regrets that I could have done more. I feel it’s this approach that will allow me to succeed in my professional endeavors.

Sooner did I know, the days drew closer and the exam that tested our competence was due. Each and every individual had to be paid in his own coin. The exam started and my aspirations were high, for I knew the extent to which I was to perform. From a personal point of view, I thought I tackled each and every set of questions in those papers profoundly and expected nothing less than an “A”. Just like how it takes a while for a rocket to move from the earth to space so did the days of this exams week, and suddenly I realized that I was writing my final paper. What my colleagues and I had dreamt of some years back was to be experienced within a few hours. “Yes!” we were graduating out of basic school; the battle that we had to fight after several days of intensive teaching without leaving any stone unturned was over. And the question that engulfed my sub conscience mind was “had we all fought a good cause?” A q...
How is Geographic Information Systems used and applied to a certain profession? Do you think GIS is more important in one profession than another? Why is GIS important to use in a profession? All of these are common questions to think about when looking at different professions. The profession that interested me the most is Forensic Investigations, which is kind of like a Crime Scene Investigator. When I graduate college, I want to go into the forensic field, and this paper gives me a good opportunity to look at the different GIS used in this particular field of study. A forensic investigator is very helpful in finding leads to the investigation and maps of the local areas and surroundings, according to the different readings I found on the
