My next idea is to cover the Kelly Career Fair on Wednesday, February 3rd from 2-6pm in the Campus Center. It is the eighth annual Kelly Career Fair sponsored by the Kelly School of Business-Indianapolis Student Government and the Kelly Indianapolis Career Services Office. It is a huge opportunity for students at IUPUI to secure professional employment or internships. To find sources, I will either attend the career fair and discuss with alumni the importance and tradition of this event or interview peers who are majoring in business that are looking for internships. I find this an important event to cover because the Kelly School of Business is nationally ranked to be one of the top ten best business school in the nation. My writing can
Jagathon is IUPUI’s Dance Marathon benefiting Riley Hospital for Children. It is the largest student led-philanthropy on the IUPUI campus. I would want to profile or feature an individual who is dancing in Jagathon because it affects them personally. This fundraiser is taking place on March 5th in The Jungle inside of the IUPUI natatorium from 2a.m-2p.m. All of the people participating have to stand/dance for 12 hours straight to raise money. I have followed IUdm on Facebook and Twitter to be updated on all the information. I am questioning the students in charge of multiple committees, for example, Brooke Freeman, and persuade individuals on campus to
The Office of Student Involvement organizes six cultural heritage month celebrations with a variety of student groups or organizations. It is a good way to learn about cultural values and traditions at multiple dinners and programs. I would be most interested in covering Black History Month and Women’s History Month. Black History Month takes place in the month of February, and Women’s History Month is in the month of March.
At the end of every spring semester, IUPUI hosts what is called the Jagapalooza. It is described as the end of the year spring celebration for all students. The event will take place on Friday, April 29th in Taylor Courtyard. There are ways to sign up to be on the planning committee for this event by submitting an application. The Jagapalooza will include fun games, activities, and live entertainment. I plan to talk to the director of this traditional event, Jared Owen, as well as the Week of Events Coordinator, Andria Martinez. I want to express in my writing how exciting this event
Over the years, the Calle Ocho festival has brought hundreds of smiles to thousands of people. Behind the smiles, the laughter, and the dances, there is a serious side to the festivities. In the beginning, Willy Bermello just wanted a little backyard get-together that would bring neighbors closer, but the festival turned into something much, much bigger. With the festival's growth and inevitable commercialization, Bermello increasingly felt that its importance was being forgotten. He wanted to let people know this was more than just a big party. He wanted people of different races and different ethnicities to be able to feel comfortable with each other, and not just for one day. He wanted Calle Ocho's influence felt throughout the year.
Kelly has put herself in a moral predicament. She has this new life that she is doing so well in compared to the life of crime, or at least the crime, she had to run from. She is an asset to her community now and a positive influence for the people around her. This other woman for the purpose of discussion we will call her Ann, she is now on the way to jail for something they think she did do but she has been wrongfully identified. She is about to go to prison for something she did not do that will put her away for life. This other women Ann unlike Kelly is not currently a positive influence for her community and others. She in fact is a criminal who was arrested and falsely identified, because she was not identified for her own crimes. Does Kelly need to turn herself in or is her importance to the community more valuable than this other ladies’ freedom.
I am exceptionally grateful for this opportunity to possibly be a member of this very prestigious organization. Every day I work tremendously hard to be noticed by both other scholars and my teachers. Now that an opportunity has come, I am truly excited to demonstrate and live by the values of The National Junior Honors Society. I hope to further expose and show both my dedication and want to join arms with my community and my peers and I wish to continue to work with passion and fire to shape the world into a brighter place.
Within my school, I was Co-president of the National Junior Honor Society group for our school’s annual Parking Lot Party (PLP). For this project, I, along with the help of my other officers, led a group of students to create a set of games and activities for the PLP, which came out with very good results and lots of smiles from the students who both played the games and volunteered for them. From this experience, I have learned how much I enjoy planning an event and seeing it executed successfully with positive results on my community, and I hope that I can continue to do this in YAC.
It is simple to look at an individual’s life and analyze and critique their choices based on our own opinions and experiences. Is that fair? No. We may see their actions clearly but the reasoning behind these is what we should focus on when it comes to judging someone’s behavior or circumstances. A common judgment made about a person is based on their career. In our society, it would behoove us to look at the path that leads to becoming a doctor instead of a drug dealer.
Another activity I would like to partake in is a family recipe exchange. We should strive to cook one of these unique cultural dishes once a month for the entire community to come together to eat and talk.
The job market in the United States has changed a lot since the beginning of the recession in 2008. Young people need to know the job market so they can choose careers wisely. Many of the jobs that used to be popular and secure are now among the jobs that have the most amounts of layoffs, and some jobs are being replaced by new jobs as a result of the existing internet and technology. Lexi Tuck, a classmate in 100/102, wants to be either a journalist or a businesswoman. Based on Lexi’s list of interest and several research sources, entering the field of journalism is a good choice for her.
I would like to begin this reflection paper with my past experiences. First, I am an older student – obtaining my first bachelors from Hofstra University. As a sophomore in broadcast journalism, I was assigned the task of interviewing a graduate student in speech-language pathology as part of a career exploration video for incoming freshman. Filming her and her fellow classmates as they helped children overcome their stutter and gain both confidence and a voice, I was fascinated by the amazing work they were doing. But I had already begun searching for a career path in public relations, soon taking a job at a public relations firm on Long Island focusing on business clients. I was fortunate to be able to attend the Spring Jazz Gala at the High School. Before entering the auditorium or even the school, I had high expectations that this would be like one of the concerts I used to perform in when I was in High School. We called it “Night at the Pops”. One of the highlights of our concert was the informal attire. We got to wear jeans and a different colored t shirt each year. The fun thing about the t-shirt is many people in band and choir designed a new design each year for the shirt. It was then voted on by all of us and whoever won had it plastered on the front of ALL the shirts! So, when I think about my assumptions and what I observed during this Spring Jazz Gala, they were definitely different. During this performance, I sat in the auditorium not a gym like what I had envisioned. The lights were dim like you were going to watch a play and the attire of the students were very sophisticated. You would find the gents wearing black suits with bow ties and the dames with elegant black dresses. Even though this wasn’t what I expected for this performance, I wasn’t too shocked because when I performed in high school, our attire was similar for all of our other concerts. While only a small percentage of the entire workforce was able to participate in the event, its intention was to provide employees with something to strive toward. It was also rejuvenating for those given the opportunity to attend. The event was inspiring and left you with the feeling that you work for a great company and they do care about you; so much so that they are willing to spend a lot of money and provide you with a wonderful experience . The event also focused heavily on the driving force of the company: the students and helping them to improve and change their lives. Employees returned to work feeling inspired and ready to do just that. The event provided the company with an opportunity to invest in their employees, reward them, and make them feel
“The future stretches before me, waiting for me to create the work of art that will become my life.” We have entered an age for celebration, an era to memorialize who we were, who we are and who we will eventually become. Celebrate this milestone greater than all the others, for it is the time we have spent here in our high school careers that will always be held close to heart.
Many students come to Howard University so that they can be the next ones listed on the long list of notable Alumni. Some of Howards Alumni have gone on to be the Attorney Generals, United State Senators, famous actors, doctors, lawyers etc. The list of notable alumni from the beloved Howard University can go on for days. In order to be the next one on that list Howard students must take advantage of every opportunity that they are given. One of those opportunities is through Howards many different career fairs.
We will be discussing my educational journey that talks about my endeavors as me being a student, and I’ll be writing my positive road of how my experience was with middle school, elementary school and finally high school, also I will be talking more about how I got inspired to be a great student and set a good example to my colleagues, after that I’ll be talking more about my current English level in college, and how I was picked into that class, and what are the reasons that made me join the college of MSJC, additionally I’ll be going to delve more into my choice in life, or what do I need to do by going to a higher education, whether it’s long term or short-term , and finally why I chose to join this course.
During the course of the semester, all of the writing and research skills I developed helps to strengthen my self-confidence in many areas and it aids me in achieving my goals for the future. By developing more effective research approaches for finding and citing sources, I advanced from an inexperienced writer to a confident writer with the suitable knowledge to create effective essays to capture my audience. Having confidence in my abilities to use the skills I learned will help me to become a success in college. With more practice and valuation of my strengths and weaknesses, I can continue to improve and become an excellent communicator in the future.
Right now, a buzz is going through the hall in which all the seniors are waiting and they look like bees swarming in the hall. It’s becoming hot and we’re all getting impatient. Amber is more composed and enjoying the good times in the present. She is standing there happy but sad to be dispersing from the rest of her classmates. Ann, the smartest one is having a little fun but not really. Her feelings are that of a person who realizes she’s going to miss what she had, but wanting to get the ceremony over with because it’s taking too long. Standing in that room we are together and enjoying one last real time capturing a picture with each other. Amber’s mom is so proud of her daughter that she keeps talking and smiling and trying to part of every MOMent. Amber is thinking to herself that she wishes her mom weren’t there but she’s ‘happy inside because someone is cooing over’ her. As Ann is standing beside Amber she keeps getting these expressions that say, she likes being with her friends but, ‘what is taking so long? Can’t we get out of these dang robes, yet?’
