The movie that I decided to watch was October Baby, which was made in 2011. In the first twenty minutes of the movie everything happens so quickly. The main character, Hannah, has a seizure on stage with her father, a doctor helping. It leads to her talking to her doctor with her parents. In the end of this appointment she finds out that she is adopted and when she gets this news she is not very happy and goes on a road trip with he childhood friend, Jason to find her birth mom. October Baby is a story about a 19-year-old college freshman that you first see nervously going over her lines for the play that she is the lead role in. Quickly she stutters her lines and collapses on stage having a seizure Hannah has grown up always having hip surgeries, …show more content…
One of my favorite parts was once Hannah was home from the road trip her adoptive mother sat down with her and told her that she was once carrying twins also, but she lost them. Her mother told Hannah about a church that she would always go to and Hannah ended up going, the priest words really drew me in. He said that the church has a letter from Paul the Apostle and the letter read: “because we have been forgiven by God we should forgive each other. In Christ you are forgiven and because you are forgiven you have the power to forgive and to choose to forgive, let it go. Hatred is a burden you no longer need to carry only in forgiveness you can be free, forgiveness you cannot find in a trip or in a church but if the sun can set you free, you will be free indeed. Jonathan wants you to live your life, live it to the full.” This really gave me a new way of thinking. In another part of the movie Hannah’s dad taker her to her brothers grave and there he says “The doctor said that there was not much brain activity, but I saw him smile we truly believe god would heal him. But when I looked at you I never thought something so small could overpower me.” It is dialect from those two people that made me think about the way people see God and the way that they think he can help them. The way I grew up I wasn’t taught about religion. I know that God exists but I had no clue what he was/is capable of. At the end of the movie it shows Hannah’s birth mother walking into her office and holding a note and a hospital bracelet, the note says, “I forgive
First is the summary of the book and the movie. Hannah is a young Jewish girl. She was a brat and loathed going to family reunions because all her family talked about was the memory
I always looked at death as such a sad thing that is eventually going to occur to everyone. However, after reading this book, it made me realize death can actually be a beautiful thing. Death allows a person to go to a next life, one where they will be loved and others will be there for them. It was interesting to be able to read about stories that these hospice care workers witnessed themselves. I have experienced a few deaths within my life and I never coped with them very well. After reading this book, I honestly believe I will be able to look at the positive side of death and be able to deal with my emotions better. I can also help others surrounding me deal with a death that they are experiencing. This book was filled with information that I loved learning. For example, I never knew that a dying person can choose a time to die. The thought of this never occurred to me before. I always thought that when it was someone’s time to go, they had no choice. But, a dying person can “put off” passing on until they see a certain person or event that has great significance in their life. Nevertheless, there are still people who will wait to die until they’re all alone in the room. This book makes you think of real life situations and think what you would do in them. Taken as a whole, it was a very in depth book that changes the way you would naturally perceive
Once I get past all of the rambling I did in the past paragraphs, I honestly really enjoyed the book. Though it wasn't like most of the other books I’ve read (meaning I didn't cry during the process of reading it), the characters were just as provokingly interesting as the characters in other stories, it was a little edgy and made me want to yell at it, shouting at Sam when she wouldn’t let Tyler play video games with Danny, or Danny when he called to have Sam and Tyler taken to a separate facility. Overall, this book opened me up to something that just isn't a romance novel. This story really shows that there are people with a lot of difficulties in their lives, and that’s what I liked the most about it.
I can relate this book to my life in many ways; it was easier for me to relate to this book because were both 18 year old girls who want to live life the right way. Also I don’t want to live life trying to be like everyone else, so this was really encouraging to me. A part that helped me was the part about confidence and how important that is. Its important to have confidence in your faith because say you get in a situation you can protect your faith and stand up for what you believe. Another part that I can really apply to my life was how when people were talking about her she didn’t even beg to know. Personally whenever I hear that someone was talking about me, I really want to know what they said! This helped me to learn that why fill my brain with negativity sinful gossip, because that’s not what Jesus would do.
The theme developed in this book is so important. Even if the event that happens to you isn’t to the same extent as what happened to Melinda, it’s still so important to reach out and ask for help. I think that the events in this book could easily happen to someone and it is such a simple book to relate too. So many people go throughout their days thinking that they are alone and have no one to go too, but that’s so wrong and this book shows that there are some situations you don’t have to handle on your
One of the scenes that I found to be the most shocking would it be when Jeannette's mom and dad were arguing about going to live with Rose Mary’s mother and they ended up throwing things out the window, but what surprised me the most is when Rose Mary begin dangling from the window screaming for help. All the kids, and myself, weren't sure whether Rose Mary had jumped or their father had pushed her out the window. Think the most inspiring part of the story from me was when most of the kids were able to actually built their lives up from where they began. It was so amazing to be able to see that they came from a place so low and were able to build their lives up from where they began. Finally, I think the funniest part of the story for me would be the Battle of Little Hobart Street because
middle of paper ... ... I heard someone say once a quote that I think fits really well, that Christians’ fight with values and it is almost impossible to fight with values. This is true and I think because you can’t necessarily fight values we have to attempt to change values and that can be much more effective with something that hits home a little more than scientific facts might. Overall, the film was a very informative film for a more homophobic audience.
... job with this story and I believe any reader can find some one or something in the story they can relate to and can apply the story to their every day life. The story has many lessons and morals that can be learned but adds a humorous twist to things. So I leave with this final though, in the words of Wendell Berry, “Practice Resurrection!”
David Foster Wallace’s “Good People,” is a very touching, powerful story about a young, unwed, Christian couple facing an extremely difficult decision and the moral and religious implications that may result. As the story begins, we are allowed into the head of Lane Dean, a college student, as he sits on a park bench with his girlfriend, Sheri. Lane and Sheri find themselves faced with an unplanned pregnancy, which causes them to battle with several moral and religious dilemmas. Both of them are devout Christians who have built their moral beliefs upon God and their religious upbringing. Although torn Sheri schedules an abortion, which weighs on Lane deeply. Lane, frozen in fear and not having the courage to freely talk to Sheri about the situation, has a conversation with her in his own head which leads him to question love, morals, religion and life. As they face this unwanted pregnancy, Lane, controlled by fear realizes that sometimes in life certain situations are too complicated to solely be answered within the rigidity of religion. People are human and regardless of how strong their faith in religion is, the battle between right and wrong will forever exist. Ultimately, Sheri decides to carry the child, which Lane assumes is a statement of Sheri’s faith in him. Inspired by her leap of faith, Lane decides to break free from the fear, muster up some courage and ultimately makes a leap of faith of his own and decides to give loving her a try. Lane’s epiphany leads to the central idea that sometimes it takes breaking the confines of fear and having faith in love or in another person to win the battle between right and wrong, which Wallace conveys beautifully.
These are the main points to the story. Hannah found a cure for her father's disease. She needs to help heal her father's leg or doctors will amputate. This is very important to Hannah. She wants to find the treasure and give all of the money to help heal her father. Another point is
... class. This book was actually one of most interesting books I’ve read while I’ve been in college, and this course kept me interested the whole semester. The things it has taught me about the meaning of reading and evaluating other people and their personalities and who they really are. It actually came to mind a couple times, maybe I want to be a psychologist and help people with their problems. It just really amazes me how Perry’s dad can literally be the cause of four innocent lives gone. Throughout reading the book and watching both films, I began better at reading people and observing their personalities not only with the characters in the book but also outside the classroom and in the real world. The fact that everyone has a story and reasons they are the way they are. Perry had a story that no one knew about, and it has just taught me that everyone has one
The book and the movie were both very good. The book took time to explain things like setting, people’s emotions, people’s traits, and important background information. There was no time for these explanations the movie. The book, however, had parts in the beginning where some readers could become flustered.
This movie is a wonderful production starting from 1960 and ending in 1969 covering all the different things that occurred during this unbelievable decade. The movie takes place in many different areas starring two main families; a very suburban, white family who were excepting of blacks, and a very positive black family trying to push black rights in Mississippi. The movie portrayed many historical events while also including the families and how the two were intertwined. These families were very different, yet so much alike, they both portrayed what to me the whole ‘message’ of the movie was. Although everyone was so different they all faced such drastic decisions and issues that affected everyone in so many different ways. It wasn’t like one person’s pain was easier to handle than another is that’s like saying Vietnam was harder on those men than on the men that stood for black rights or vice versa, everyone faced these equally hard issues. So it seemed everyone was very emotionally involved. In fact our whole country was very involved in president elections and campaigns against the war, it seemed everyone really cared.
It was the worst movie I had ever watched. Not because it was poorly made but because it was so ghastly. I usually don’t watch horror movies. I grew up in a strict household with very rigorous rules, but this one I couldn’t turn away from. We were at my grandmother’s house for Christmas and my siblings and I had some extra time on our hands. My grandmother always had HBO which was great because I could watch movies here that I couldn’t at home. At first we were watching The Blind Side but when that ended Orphan came on. Orphan is about two parents, Kate and John who decided to adopt a child after Kate had a miscarriage. Kate suspects that the child they adopted may not be the child they thought she was. From the beginning of the movie it had a foreboding atmosphere. You knew everything was going to go bad but you didn’t know when. Watching that little girl get away with all of her despicable acts throughout the movie was painful and I’m not sure why I was watching it. It had an allure to it that couldn’t be explained. It was about that time of the movie. The girl turned against the family and took a knife from the kitchen. Knowing what was coming next I took the
Not only does this movie deal with the issues of society, but it points to biblical scriptures that help lead us in the right direction. The biggest lesson that this film taught me was that if I put my complete faith in God, then no matter what happens, he will provide, watch over, and take care of me. I learned that expressing belief in God is not enough. I have to live everyday believing and trusting him and I have to show my trust and faith through my actions and my words.
