Reflection Reflection can be defined as a result of two types of actions: Routine action – occurs through ‘take for granted’ everyday realities of life. It allows you to concentrate on developing other aspects of your life, making you a more effective and efficient decision-maker. Reflective action – is weighing up all aspects of the situation and making a conscious and informed decision about what to do. It means taking active control over what you do and how you do it (Maslin-Prothero, 2005). Natious (2012) defines reflective practice as the process involved in practice settings; reflection in this sense emphasises a thoughtful approach to understanding experience, whether in real time or retrospectively. There are many versions of reflection, …show more content…
Which translated that over 300 emergency admissions occurred with a cost of £17,500 per week. To improve this outcome they introduced Tunstall Healthcare which looked at remotely monitoring people with COPD in their homes, this ensured that COPD patients in need of medical intervention would be prioritised a visit ensuring that the patient had peace of mind and reassurance that they can get support 24 hours a day. Telehealth also helped to educate patients to be more aware of their own symptoms and proactively manage them. Which helped to reduce the burden on healthcare providers. When Sheffield PCT showed financial savings, where when telehealth monitored COPD within the community patients in their own homes. Hospital admissions dramatically decreased to 50% with a saving of £30000 to £40000. While in Nottingham, the third PCT, was meeting the needs of individual service users. 22000 hospital admissions a year linked to long term conditions-40% of hospital activity. Introducing telehealth also dramatically reduced their admissions and even GP visits, lessening the burden on primary and acute care providers ensuring NHS resources were used effectively (Marshall, 2009). Jones and Carroll (2014) looked at the use of virtual wards where the reduction of emergency admission was achieved, their virtual ward concept was brought in to attempt to reduce emergency admissions by £1000000 within a year. It also considered the views of patient’s preferences of where they wish to be cared for as this also was a goal of the CCG and the NHS in Wyre

Reflection, as explained by Moon (2013), is the process of looking back on an event or experience and thinking about it and learning from it. Reflection, which is learning through experience, is not a new concept. As humans, we naturally reflect on our surroundings and experiences on a day to day basis in order to make sense of them. (Norman, Vleuten and Newble, 2002). In a professional context, reflation is vital for a practitioner to learn and improve their practice. By using their own experiences, practitioners are able to analysis, and in turn, adapt or improve specific areas of practice
Telehealth is the monitoring via remote exchange of physiological data between a patient at home and health care professionals at hospitals or clinics to assist with diagnosis and treatment. As our society ages and health care costs increase, government and private insurance payers are seeking technological interventions. Technological solutions may provide high quality healthcare services at a distance, utilize professional resources more effectively, and enable elderly and ill patients to remain in their own homes. Patients may experience decreased hospitalization and urgent care settings, and out of home care may not be required as the patient is monitored at home. However, no study has been able to prove telehealth benefits conclusively. This change in health care delivery presents new ethical concerns, and new relationship boundaries between health care professionals, patients, and family members. This paper will discuss telehealth benefits in specific patient populations, costs benefits of using telehealth, and concerns of using telehealth.
Reflection is turning experience into Learning. Reflection is a conscious, dynamic process of thinking about, analysing, and learning from an experience that gives insight into self and practice.
Reflection can been described as a process of turning experience into learning, that is, it is a way of exploring experience in order to learn new things from it. According to Boud, eogh, and Walker (1985:19) they define reflection as “those intellectual and affective activities which are engaged in by individuals to explore their experiences in order to lead to new understandings and appreciations”. Reflection often involves taking the unprocessed, raw material of one’s experience and engaging with it Inorder to derive sense from what has occurred. It often involves exploring messy and confused events and focusing on the thoughts and emotions that accompany them. Reflection can be undertaken as an informal personal activity either for its own sake or as a part of a structured course. Reflection may focus on special activities taking for instance workshop activities, events of the past experience for example, what learners easily recall from prior experience, or concurrent activities in the learners’ workplace and community that can act as a stimulus for learning. In this context, the word event is used to refer to any activity from which learning may result, whether it happens regardless of its location that is whether in a classroom, a workshop, a formally scheduled placement, or in everyday
This essay will explore the authors meaning of reflection, how various reflective styles can benefit the practitioners within their settings, and how important reflection is within Early Years Practice. According to Appleby (2010, p.10), reflection is a generic term which describes various behaviours involving feelings, and thinking about thoughts and experiences, in order to examine issues and develop, new understandings and insights. Reflection within practice allows the practitioner to develop a sense of awareness around their daily activities, and helps them to evaluate how they could evolve these activities further, if the given opportunity was to arise again. Similarly, keeping a reflective journal
Reflection is a key element of the human learning process. It can be used to justify aspects of practice and legitimise the knowledge gained from it, as opposed to traditional forms of learning.
Reflection is a process that begins with looking back on a situation thinking about it, learning from it and then using the new knowledge to help you in similar situations in the future. We need to evaluate through reflection to examine whether change is needed. We can then decide what action is needed and what we would do the next time we are faced with a similar situation. It might not necessarily be something you have done wrong, it may well be you were happy with the outcome of a situation you had some input into and would do again. It may have been something you did differently that had a positive result and

Reflective practice is the process of taking a step away from the work environment and thinking about your practice, consciously analysing the decisions you make during your practice and drawing on theory, relate it to what you do in practice (The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, 2016).
Reflection is an essential component in the development of professional competencies and critical thinking skills in nursing practice. Reflection in the context of nursing, has been described as a way of exploring an experience in order to look for the prospect of other explanations and alternative methods to doing things. It is through reflection that one can evaluate and identify their strengths and weaknesses to encourage both personal and professional growth and development. In this paper, I will be discussing how student nurses learn and develop from reflection, the emotional response and self-awareness as a nurse, and the appropriate way to reflect as a nurse.
The service I completed my work experience was a Pre-School. This organisation belongs to the public sector, and provides education for children aged 2-4. Due to confidentiality, I cannot state the place or name of this particular early years setting. I attended this setting for seven days and during my time there, I observed what types of quality care was being demonstrated and if all three values of care were being applied. Pre-school A used all three values of care which gives everyone equality. These three values are; Promoting respect and dignity, anti-discriminatory practice and individual rights and choices.
During this reflective assignment, it will explore what reflection is and how it relates to health care. There will be discussions on why reflection is used, its purpose, what it achieves and how health care professionals reflect in practice. A reflective model will be used to reflect on a critical incident in relation to consent, which has occurred during practice. The critical inci-dent will focus on communication, respect, and dignity. This reflective piece will also evaluate the positive and negative experience that has been gained from the critical incident and how it will help contribute to future learning. It will analyse what communication, respect, and digni-ty are and how this relates to the incident. The assignment will also include
With the help of telehealth and telenursing, overall healthcare costs can be reduced, especially for those patients
The reflective dimension is the journey of self-development through a critical analysis of one’s thoughts, behaviours and values. Reflection allows you to relate your inner self to the environment around you. It encourages social responsibility and constant improvement as you learn from experience and acknowledge success. (Olckers, Gibbs & Duncan 2007: 3-4) Reflection can boost learning by stimulating awareness of our feelings and practices. This allows health professionals to cope with unfamiliar circumstances and conflicts.
