Introduction
The purpose of this paper is to create a detailed and thorough outline of the curriculum in the correctional reentry and transition programs, for the inmates that are eligible. The purpose of this paper is to develop relevant and correct strategies that can be effectively assigned to achieve the goals of the scenario defined above. The strategies and goals defined will be used to create an efficient curriculum for inmates who are eligible for the reentry and transition program. The curriculum will consist of all the activities and services that the eligible inmates will need to get rid of their criminal tendencies and bad habits.

Achievement is a difficult procedure for most people making a move from the controlled, exceptionally organized environment of the correctional facility. Therefore, the recommendation of this instructional curriculum portrays all of the requirement for a detailed reentry and transition strategy. A crucial part of this strategy is to develop a reentry plan that is tailored to meet the needs of each prison inmate. The details of this curriculum are:
• A detailed plan will be made, which focus on important areas of need of the inmates. The plan will focus on housing, education, and employment, mental health, life skills and family and community support.
• Organizing several speaker sessions. Ex-inmates, family members of ex-inmates and other community members will come to this session and give motivational speeches about the life after the reentry program.
• Inmates will be taught life skills.
• Urge the inmates to save in-jail and work discharge money by setting up accounts for post-discharge costs. Numerous prison inmates are not able to get lodging upon discharge since they don't have the money or assets for deposit. The account and the job would offer assistance to prison inmates to access the private lodging

• Application for prison inmates to enroll in DC Healthcare programs before release, will be completed. Once an individual has gotten distinguishing proof and can show a DC home, he or she will be able to apply to take part in the Healthcare Alliance program.
• A spiritual therapy group will be created which enables the prison inmate to talk about their personal and emotional issues, fears and what they expect what life their life will be like after getting out of jail (csosa, 2003). The spiritual therapy group will get together every day for three hours. The leader of the spiritual therapy group will also speak about life goals and how the prison inmates can successfully re-integrate themselves in to the community.

When envisioning a prison, one often conceptualizes a grisly scene of hardened rapists and murderers wandering aimlessly down the darkened halls of Alcatraz, as opposed to a pleasant facility catering to the needs of troubled souls. Prisons have long been a source of punishment for inmates in America and the debate continues as to whether or not an overhaul of the US prison system should occur. Such an overhaul would readjust the focuses of prison to rehabilitation and incarceration of inmates instead of the current focuses of punishment and incarceration. Altering the goal of the entire state and federal prison system for the purpose of rehabilitation is an unrealistic objective, however. Rehabilitation should not be the main purpose of prison because there are outlying factors that negatively affect the success of rehabilitation programs and such programs would be too costly for prisons currently struggling to accommodate additional inmate needs.
Policymakers on the national, state, and local levels are always finding ways to improve the nature of the reentry process. The reentry process starts in correctional facilities and helps inmates prepare themselves for release and proceeds with their transition back into society as law-abiding citizens. In comparison to the average American, ex-offenders tend to be less educated, less likely to gain employment, suffer from substance abuse, or have been diagnosed with a mental illness. All of these aspects discussed are shown to be risk factors for recidivism, which is the tendency that causes criminals to re-offend. Generally, the offender reintegration process needs to be improved by properly monitoring the outcomes for reentry programs in order to return prisoners back to society safely.
What exactly is the importance behind having prisoner reentry programs put in place for those that are released from prison? Two-thirds of released prisoners are rearrested within three years of release. One and a half million children have a parent in prison. Four million citizens have lost their right to vote. The book titled Beyond Bars: Rejoining Society After Prison offers invaluable lessons of how both men and women may successfully depart prison and return to society. The book was written by Jeffrey Ross and Stephen Richards, both of whom are college professors and criminal justice experts. The population of prisons across the United States has increased dramatically in recent decades despite overall crime rates decreasing during the same time period. Approximately seven million American people are in some form of correctional custody. Between the years1980 and 2000, America’s prison population increased by 500 percent. During the same time period, the number of prisons grew by 300 percent (Ross and Richards, xii). Close to 50 percent of people admitted to confinement have previously served time, exemplifying that the criminal justice system “recycles” inmates through the system again and again (Ross and Richards, xi). Unfortunately, many convicts simply do not remember how to or are ill-equipped to return to society once their sentence ends. Ross and Richards, through their valuable lessons within their book, seek to lessen the problems that ex-prisoners may face when released from prison.
Prisons and correctional facilities in the United States have changed from rehabilitating people to housing inmates and creating breeding grounds for more violence. Many local, state, and federal prisons and correctional facilities are becoming more and more overcrowded each year. If the Department of Corrections (DOC) wants to stop having repeat offenders and decrease the volume of inmates entering the criminal justice system, current regulations and programs need to undergo alteration. Actions pushed by attorneys and judges, in conjunction current prison life (including solitary confinement), have intertwined to result in mass incarceration. However, prisoner reentry programs haven’t fully impacted positively to help the inmate assimilate back into society. These alterations can help save the Department of Corrections (DOC) money, decrease the inmate population, and most of all, help rehabilitate them. After inmates are charged with a crime, they go through the judicial system (Due Process) and meet with the prosecutor to discuss sentencing.

The last two goals were set in place to directly assist with anticipating and planning for problems that arose during a prisoners’ reentry process. By implementing the Second Chance Act, the corrections system had begun helping prepare an offender for reentry. More research the corrections system conducted to assist reentry involves the Serious and Violent Offender Reentry Initiative (SVORI) that redirected research attention to coordinated approaches for offenders returning to communities like job training and substance abuse programs ("Offender Reentry | National Institute of Justice," n.d.). Communities should embrace ex-inmates back into society.
The “Tough on Crime” and “War on Drugs” policies of the 1970s – 1980s have caused an over populated prison system where incarceration is policy and assistance for prevention was placed on the back burner. As of 2005, a little fewer than 2,000 prisoners are being released every day. These individuals have not gone through treatment or been properly assisted in reentering society. This has caused individuals to reenter the prison system after only a year of being release and this problem will not go away, but will get worst if current thinking does not change. This change must be bigger than putting in place some under funded programs that do not provide support. As the current cost of incarceration is around $30,000 a year per inmate, change to the system/procedure must prevent recidivism and the current problem of over-crowed prisons.
This model of corrections main purpose was to reintroducing the offenders in to the community. This Program was invented to help offenders in the transition from jail to the community, aid in the processes of finding jobs and stay connected to their families and the community. The needs of these individuals are difficult: the frequency of substance abuse, mental illness, unemployment, and homelessness is elevated among the jail population.

It discusses the problems and challenges faced by those who are trying to reenter society and regular every day routines after being released from prison. It is important to be aware of the challenges individuals face when they have been just released from prison. Being aware of the challenges will allow us to find effective and efficient programs that will help with the transition phase. This is a difficult phase for the majority of prisoners coming back into society. It is our responsibility to help guide them back in to their regular routines and help with job seeking.
