Animals are living beings with feelings just like you, would you still eat meat if you had to kill it yourself? That's just a glimpse of why we shouldn't eat meat. Even though, as cave men we hunted and killed our meals, that doesn't mean it should continue to be part of our norm. We have other ways to stay healthy and get the necessary nutrients. Meat causes more damage than it does good and avoiding it is the safest way to live happy and healthy lives. People should eliminate meat from their diet because it is unhealthy, there are other sources of protein, and the treatment of animals is unethical.

According to Ian Marber from Health Spectator, “The vilification of red meat began in earnest in the 1960s following landmark postwar research entitled the Seven Countries Study, which established a link between meat consumption and cardiovascular disease.” Heart disease is not the only disease that the fats in red meat causes and contributes to. Meat has carcinogens in it that can lead to various cancers. Not only that but, “A compound found in red meat (and even used as an additive in some energy drinks) called carnitine has been found to cause atherosclerosis, the hardening or clogging of the arteries.” (Nature Medicine) This little thing can lead to bigger issues in the future. “A study from Harvard School of Public Health found an association with red meat consumption and increased risk of a shortened lifespan.” (Prevention) This is because meat has many toxins in it that negatively affect our bodies. The longer humans eat meat, the risk grows of death or serious illnesses. “We have information that the primary difference between animal and plant proteins is their amino acid profiles and it is those profiles that direct the rates at which the absorbed amino acids are put to use within the body.” (Nutrition Studies) This states that the only difference between plant and animal protein is how the amino acids are used and how fast they are broke down.
