Red Badge Character Analysis

In literature when faced with danger or tremendous stress often times people change. As a result this happened in Red Badge of Courage and The Luck of Roaring Camp. In Red Badge a young boy named Henry undergoes a change of being self-centered to being willingly able to die for others. Then in the Luck of Roaring Camp all the men started to change when the baby was born. Each character or characters in each work had a change based on their circumstances whether it be a positive or negative.
In Red Badge the heroic character Henry undergoes a dramatic change . At first he only thinks about himself and his own concerns as demonstrated in the second battle. During this battle he at first stands his ground but soon runs away for a brief period for wanting to survive.When henry first enlisted he could only think about glory and fame and how the world viewed him. It was a predominantly all male camp with the exception of one woman by the name of Cherokee Sal. So this ratio in itself is very odd but because it was all men with some being criminals they all tended to be rowdy and dangerous. The town prostitute Cherokee Sal was start of all the positivity because she became pregnant . A pregnancy was the oddest thing thing the men have seen since they were more familiar with deaths and not births. When the baby was born soon after the camp started to act very strangely. Maybe it was due to the fact that since the baby was born they have started to accumulate more gold. But with that the baby drew out and inner peace in the men. For instance the town saloon got carpet and mirrors so the men could see themselves. Upon seeing themselves they immediately started cleaning by washing and trimming their facial hair. Here the men changed from criminals to basically gentlemen after a baby was born, so there must be a link to change depending on circumstance if this can
