While reading “ Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer, many opinions can be formed of Chris McCandless. One, in particular, was the author's opinion which he blatantly stated on page 85. He didn't think that Chris was some reckless foolish insane idiot. He believed that competent otherwise he wouldn't have lasted so long. I agree with Krakauer, things Chris did on this journey did not show signs of some careless person. Chris was just an adventurer looking to get away from the expectations society had of him to see the world for what it really was.

A child of abuse and neglect, Chris McCandless awed the world with his inspiring trip across the nation to find himself in Alaska. Leaving his well off life and his problematic family behind to be true to his ideas of life. His life impacted the people who knew him well and the strangers that drove him to his haven. When the story of this young man hitch hiking across the country broke ground, it made many people question if this boy was just crazy or did he really have a true understanding on the day to day live we were living and where we were going wrong. Although some critics have conceived the idea that Chris McCandless was just a crazed mad man with schizophrenia and the unachievable idea of true happiness. Many believe he was a new

scarred and disfigured, he was somehow inspired. He used this tragic event -- that was meant to be a setback -- as a catapult to launch the new Hank Williams, Jr. into the challenge of stardom (encyclopedia.com). The music world caught on to this change around 1979, the year he released his first million-selling album, Whiskey Bent and Hell Bound. This album began a streak of 30 Top Ten hits that continued until 1990. From 1982 to 1990, Hank had numerous awards for Entertainer of the Year and Best Country Vocal Collaboration. In 1989, he even had a version of his song, “All My Rowdy Friends Are Coming Over Tonight”, used as the theme song for Monday Night Football!
Have you ever felt stuck? Wherever you are, it’s the absolute last place you want to be. In the book Into the Wild, Chris McCandless feels stuck just like the average everyday person may feel. Chris finds his escape plan to the situation and feels he will free himself by going off to the wild. I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person, a sociopath, or an outcast because he got along with many people very well, but he did seem somewhat incompetent, even though he survived for quite some time.
I have listened to country music since I was a little, as did my husband. For him, it's a reminder of a simpler time, helping his father farm, plowing fields into the night. For me, it's a reminiscence of sunning myself in my backyard over summer vacation. The twangy sounds of the guitars and the fiddles always seemed to make me feel at home. For me, country music is a way of life, therefore the reasons I will use in an attempt to persuade you that country music is better than other music include its deep history in America, the quality and content of the music and its relatability.
The definition of grit is simple; it means being passionate about long term goals, and showing stamina to pursue them, but should students in public schools have a class dedicated to a grit-focused curriculum? This has become a major topic of discussion among teachers and mentors. Angela Duckworth, a professor of psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, claims grit is not a fixed quality but one that can be developed. Many disagree with her statement. Grit is something everyone all have within themselves, but some just do not utilize this characteristic as often or as well as others. Grit is a puzzling concept. Duckworth has had an obsession with grit for over a decade. Her obsession started when she visited West Point,
During college, McGraw learned to play Guitar, and would frequently perform for money. He claimed his roommates often hid his guitar because he was so bad. McGraw followed his mom when she returned to Jacksonville Florida in 1989, on the day Tim’s hero Keith Whitley died, McGraw dropped out of college to head to Nashville and pursue a Music Career.
... to pass on, singing “We’ll meet beyond the shore, we’ll kiss just as before.” This showed an acceptance of what was inevitable. After David was discharged from music therapy, he had passed on a week later. This study demonstrates the power of music therapy with association to grief and mourning. The song choices helped to promote a communication between the husband and wife, and the neurologically impaired David was able to sing words that he was unable to express on his own. (Bailey, 1984). The power of music is incredible, and has the ability to say what we are unable to.
