Queen Victoria Building has site-specific exemption, which is made under subsection 57(2) Heritage Act 1977.

The Site Specific Exemption as follows:
Schedule C. Site-wide:
1. All standard exemptions
2. All works and activities in accordance with a valid development consent in force at the date of gazettal for listing the Queen Victoria Building on the State Heritage Register
3. Minor modification to a valid development consent in force at the date of gazettal for listing the Queen Victoria Building on the State Heritage Register where the Director of the Heritage Brach is satisfied that:
- The proposed works are substantially the same as the development for which consent was originally granted
- The works proposed to be undertaken under this exemption prior to commencement of works, and the Director has provided written confirmation that the works are exempt
4. Changes to operating hours.
