Queen Isabella was born on April 22, 1451 in Madrigal, Old Castile. Her mother was Isabella of Portugal and her dad was John the II of Castile. Her mom and dad were King and Queen of Castile. She had two brothers, Alfonzo and Henry (“Isabella of Castile” par13).
At the age of three Isabella’s father died. After his death He4nry became King of Castile. A few years after he was crowned King he sent Alfonzo and Isabella to Segovia to be safe (“Isabella of Castile” par13). While they were in Segovia Henry got married twice, and finally had a baby. After the baby was born the people of Castile believed they needed a new king, so they summoned Isabella and Alfonzo back. The people of Castile decided that Alfonzo will be the heir to the throne. But while there was a war going on in Castile Alfonzo was killed. Now Isabella was the heir to the throne (“Isabella of Castile” par16).
Henry believed that Isabella should get married if she wanted the crown. With that in mind he thought she should marry Don Carlos Prince of Vienna. But Isabella had other thoughts in mind. She wished to marry Ferdinand Prince of Aragon. Her brother would not fight with her so he allowed her to marry him. But she would have to wait until she got back from her trip. Isabella did not listen and married him during her trip. Therefore they got married in 1469 in Juan de Vivero (“Queen Isabella I” par3-5). When they ...

She made huge sacrifices when she was young. She even turned down an offer to be Queen. She believed that unless both her brothers died it was not her right to be Queen (“Queen Isabella’ par 4). Being an educated Catholic girl, Isabella was mostly influenced by god. Her parents taught her to always follow the word of god (“Isabella of Castile” par43). Isabella wanted to be remembered as someone to look up to. Today she has accomplished that. Many people in Spain wish to make Isabella a Saint. But fro right now she is called a servant of god (“Isabella of Castile” par 39).

Many people have heard of King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain. However, only some know of all the things they accomplished. They might be best known for funding the voyages of Christopher Columbus, but they also greatly contributed to the unity of Spain (“Isabella l”). Together, they brought many kingdoms on the Iberian Peninsula together to form what Spain is today. Through Spain’s unification, King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella strengthened Spain into an economic and dominant world power, enabling the spread of Christianity and the colonization of a New World.
As a young man, Jay Gatsby was poor with nothing but his love for Daisy. He had attempted to woe her, but a stronger attraction to money led her to marry another man. This did not stop Gatsby’s goal of winning this woman for himself though, and he decided to improve his life anyway he could until he could measure up to Daisy’s standards. He eventually gained connections in what would seem to be the wrong places, but these gave him the opportunity he needed to "get rich quick." Gatsby’s enormous desire for Daisy controlled his life to the point that he did not even question the immorality of the dealings that he involved himself in to acquire wealth. Eventually though, he was able to afford a "castle" in a location where he could pursue Daisy effectively. His life ambition had successfully moved him to the top of the "new money" class of society, but he lacked the education of how to promote his wealth properly. Despite the way that Gatsby flaunted his money, he did catch Daisy’s attention. A chaotic affair followed for a while until Daisy was overcome by pressures from Gatsby to leave her husband and by the realization that she belonged to "old money" and a more proper society.
In an age when men were considered to be superior to women, Eleanor of Aquitaine proved that conclusion wrong by becoming one the greatest queens ever known in history, first as the Queen of France and later as the Queen of England. But many queens during the medieval ages were not able to accomplish what Eleanor did in her lifetime. How did Eleanor become such a powerful queen during the period in which she lived.
Literature has been portraying the idea of the American dream in many different stories throughout all of history. This dream can be defined as someone rising from the bottom and finding wealth and love in their everyday life. In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, the storyline illustrates the life of several characters pursuing the American dream in New York City. The characters are all by intrigued Jay Gatsby, the man who lives across the bay with the biggest house in the city. Every person wants to gain the wealth that Gatsby has. The corruption of this desired American dream develops throughout the novel as the characters pursue love and money yet ultimately end up broken-hearted, empty-handed, or dead. During the time period of The Great Gatsby, the empty and superficial way of life was masked by the glamour and wealth that the people were absorbed in.
Jay Gatsby ultimately does not achieve the American Dream. Fitzgerald portrays Gatsby as the epitome of the American Dream; he grew up poor but worked his way to the top of the social hierarchy. The American Dream is the idea that every US citizen has an equal opportunity to achieve success through hard work and determination. Gatsby has money and a well-known name, but none of his efforts in achieving the American Dream were legal. The American Dream is essentially based off of morals, and Gatsby performed unethical task while working his way to the top. Additionally, Fitzgerald conveys that one should not confuse love and money. The saying “money can’t bring you happiness” is accurate; money has no substance, whereas, love does. In
But because of his obsession with the past, he can never accept the present as it is, resulting in his failed Dream and his inability to reach happiness. Originating from a poor midwestern family, Jay Gatsby joins the army as a boy in an attempt to achieve honor and glory in the only way he feels he can. When at his training camp in the South, he meets and falls in love with Daisy Buchanan, a gorgeous debutante in whom “Gatsby’s meretricious dream was made flesh” (Trask 214). When Gatsby’s deployment note finally comes, he is reluctant to leave Daisy and the relationship he has begun with her, but his desire to fulfill his Dream with Daisy comes with the requirement that he become the wealthy young man he has portrayed himself to be. He departs with the fervent hope that Daisy will wait for him while he becomes “rich and gentlemanly… so he will be worthy to ask Daisy to… marry him” and maintains complete belief in the attainability of his Dream (Mizener 81). Unfortunately for Gatsby, Daisy falls victim to the pressures of her surroundings, caving to the demands of her parents and society that she marry Tom Buchanan, an enormously wealthy and powerful man from East Egg. From then on, Daisy is placed outside of Gatsby’s grasp, ruining the attainability of his Dream. They reunite five years later, Gatsby
Queen Elizabeth I was said to be one of the best rulers of England. Unlike rulers before her, she was a Protestant and not a Catholic. She was not stupid though. She did go to church and did everything that Catholics did to prevent getting her head cut off under the rules of her sister Mary. Elizabeth was very young when she came to rule. She was only 17 years old when her sister Mary died and she took over.
Jay Gatsby grew up in a family where money was not an easy thing to come by, but he was determined to change his social standing. He worked hard and dedicated himself
Just like many people who venture to America to find business, he saw the corruption around him, but continued to strive for his dreams and truly believed that he could achieve the American Dream of success and achieve his green light. Similarly to Gatsby, my dad has worked his entire life towards the American Dream; he moved to America after college to pursue the success and wealth that many people achieve here, and has worked his entire life to create an ideal situation for my family and to achieve his dreams. In both my dad and Jay Gatsby, this concept of the American Dream and the green light showcases the hope that people like Gatsby see in America, and proves the blind faith that many Americans have in the value of hard work and perseverance, which leads to achieving the coveted American Dream. Jay Gatsby is the perfect representation of America, because although on the outside, he was corrupt and successful, underneath he was still a young man working hard for his dreams and doing everything that he could to reach his green
The Great Gatsby, a novel by Scott Fitzgerald, is about the American Dream, and the downfall of those who attempt to reach its impossible goals. To get this happiness Jay must reach into the past and relive an old dream; and, in order to do this, he must have wealth and power.
She became queen when she was only 6 days old. She was sent to France at age six to get married. She is the cousin of Queen Elizabeth I. Who is this elegant, yet struggling woman? Beautiful and brave, Mary Stuart was known for being the Queen of Scotland, France, and was in line for the throne of England and she was also considered the true queen of England.
King Henry VII was next in line to take over the throne, but could not, because of Richard the 3rd was king at that time. In August 22, 1485, Henry changed all of that, during the battle of Bosworthfield Henry killed Richard and became king of England (Meyer, G.J. pg114). During the time of King Henry’s reign there was a war going on between two families, The York and The Lancaster family. This war was known as the War of the Roses and had gone on for centuries, but Henry changed that on January 18, 1486, Henry of the Lancaster family and Elizabeth of the York family got married, because of their marriage the war had ended and it brought peace to England once again. Gatsby was born into a poor household. He had no wealth and no social background. He meets the love of his life and decides to pursue endlessly to be with her. He even claims “I am the son of some wealthy people in the Midwest- all dead now"(Fitzgerald 34). to get to daisy but in reality he isn’t the son of a wealthy family and his father is alive at the end of the novel. He uses these lies as a way of covering up so people don’t find out what he actually does, smuggling alcohol and earning money illegally. When tom exposes him “He and this Wolfshiem bought up a lot of side-street drug-stores here and in Chicago and sold grain alcohol over the counter.” (Fitzgerald 133). Gatsby 's image starts falling apart, the fake image he created brought him his own demise. After returning from the war, Daisy changes drastically from the women he once thought to a women of another man but Gatsby 's image of daisy causes him to pursue her endlessly and leads him to say “I’m going to fix everything just the way it was before”(Fitzgerald 110). “Can 't repeat the past? Why of course you can”(Fitzgerald 116).Gatsby 's image of Daisy is an illusion mistaken for reality. When he leaves in WW1, Gatsby sets out on marrying Daisy. He returns to the states, builds up a million dollar fortune to get to her and expected they be together forever but to instead find out she is married with tom. He says he will repeat the past but it is
