Quality of education is directly related to the quality of instruction in the class rooms. The strength of an educational system largely depends upon the quality of teachers. A quality teacher is the central figure for offering the quality education. The teacher has always been considered as a second parent of students. Students are generally influenced by their teachers, because they spend most of their time under the guidance of teachers in schools. For effective teaching learning activities, teacher must do lesson plans, provides instructional materials and adopt appropriate teaching strategies to achieve instructional objectives. For effective learning, a teacher needs to be equipped with all these skills and strategies by which he can help his students learn.

According to Aziz (2012, p18), it is a fact that the academic qualifications, knowledge of the subject matter, skills of teaching, competence and the commitment of the teacher have great impact on the teaching-learning process. No educational system can be better than the quality of its teachers. The competence and enthusiasm of teachers determine the heights to which an educational system can rise.

Teachers’ professional competence includes knowledge and understanding of pupils and their learning, subject knowledge, curriculum, the education system and their role. Professional competence also includes skills such as, teaching methodologies, subject application, classroom management, assessment and recording.

This level of education, therefore, needs to be reformed in such a way that it prepares the young generation for the pursuit of higher education as well as prepares them to adjust to their practical lives meaningfully and productively. The Secondary education is a stage where a student enters in his/her adolescence stage. This is the most important stage of life. The basic modes of behavior and perceptions start taking shape and problems of adjustment with the new roles in life assume critical significance. Secondary education, therefore, provides an appropriate opportunity for the educationists to conceive and launch programs that initiate the learners into proper form of behavior and attitudes (National Education Policy 1998-2010, p48)
