Happiness is the goal for everything people participate in. Whether it be work, play, or even sleep, people perform tasks to end up achieving happiness. The means of achieving happiness are found through leisure. My qualitative leisure experiences are ones that develop me as a person, rather than just activities to kill time. The quality of my leisure has increased since the beginning of my semester because I have started applying leisure to things I do daily that may not have been viewed as leisure before. For example, I commute to school daily, and I hated sitting in traffic; now, I take it as an opportunity to listen to music and think to myself, taking it as an opportunity to develop myself, rather than dreading the traffic that is at hand. …show more content…
ISTJs are characterized by decisiveness when it comes to practical affairs, usually concerned with the timeliness of events. A common adjective to describe an ISTJ is dependable, which is about six percent of the general population. According to Please Understand Me, ISTJs experience discomfort from thoughts of a bankrupt nation, state, institution, or family (Keirsey 190). This is an accurate representation of myself because I tend to be worried more about the future and being financially stable than I would like. Economic opportunity is something that I need as a means to being financially stable when I work, so thoughts of a bankrupt nation or state can be discomforting. Because ISTJs are categorized as a quiet and serious type, they are persevering, and the dishonoring an agreement would appall somebody of this type. This is similar to my findings in the Clifton Strengths Finder evaluation, as one of my strengths is analytical. This is a fair depiction of my personality; however, this should be a standard for any personality type. When people make an agreement, they must stick to it as a means of respect and trust. There is an emphasis on interest in thoroughness, details, and practicality as an ISTJ, and this is true in my case because I am a logical person. Being a computer science major as a software engineer, practicality and details are the core of my work. If …show more content…
In the future, I want to be financially stable; to achieve this, I must have a stable job that pays well. I have prioritized having mental calmness and less stress, in exchange for lower pay. Since software engineering is a high paying field to begin with, I am satisfactory with receiving slightly lower pay for a lesser work load. That was my first life goal because without it, I am most likely not able to achieve the rest of my goals. My second goal is having a healthy lifestyle, where mental and physical factors are balanced out. In order to achieve this, I must be physically healthy, so I will be making time to exercise often. Lifting weights also helps reduce mental stress for me, so this takes out two birds with one stone. Being able to go to work with a clear head is also a factor that has an effect on my mental health. I must balance work with the rest of life, not allowing work to takeover my life and bring harm to my health. This ties back to my first goal of having a stable and suitable job; having an easy job will reduce my overall stress and give me more time for leisure. By having more time for leisure, I also have reduced stress because I do not build up stress when I do things that I find leisurely and fun. My lifestyle goal transitions into my leisure goal. My leisure goal is to have a lot of new experiences that I never thought I would try prior to this class. Having an open
In the essay Why Happiness, Why Now? Sara Ahmed talks about how one’s goal in life is to find happiness. Ahmed begins her essay with skepticism and her disbeliefs in happiness. She shows her interest in how happiness is linked to a person’s life choices. Ahmed also tries to dig deeper, and instead of asking an unanswerable question, “what is Happiness?” she asks questions about the role of happiness in one’s life.
...society now classifies leisure as simply ‘free time.’ Time away from work or school, no matter how it is enjoyed, is more broadly defined as leisure today.
Thus according to Pieper, leisure is an attitude of the mind and a state of the soul that fosters a capacity to perceive the reality of the world. Pieper establishes that the ancient and medieval philosophers understood the great value and importance of leisure in doing work and thus, eventually led to building of great societies. He also points out that religion can be born only in leisure as it is only through leisure that actual worship of God is possible. Leisure has been, and always will be, the basic foundation of any culture or religion.
My own personal philosophy of leisure has been shaped by past and present activities I do for leisure and why I do them. To me, leisure is the sense of being free from external stressors that I face in my life such as school or work. The positive outcomes from partaking in leisure are generally overlooked and often underestimated. Leisure affects our emotions, our physical and mental health, and aids in the creation of relationships. In my own personal life, I have done and still participate in leisure as a way to sooth myself or unwind from the stress of school or work. The release of pent up emotions and energy for individuals helps their relationships with others and their overall health as well. When stress is released, an individual is
After reading Chapter 15 on pages 667-675 in the Assessment Tools for Recreational Therapy and Related Fields book by Joan Burlingame on "Leisure Competence Measure", the two components I pick is The Need for Standardization components and Sensitivity to Diagnosis. The Need for Standardization: Maintains the effectiveness and efficiency interventions need to figure out the what is best fit for the client or what doesn’t work with the diagnose and problem. Recreation therapy need to compare the program and standardization of measurement to avoid unaccreted resolve to the client treatment. To make sure to have everything accurate need to measure the same outcome in a correct way and the result will follow through with the outcome. The Sensitivity

Stebbins' examination advantages in recreation date to late 1973, the year he started his theoretic work on beginners. From here it soon turned out to be evident that relaxation studies could be thought about in no less than two awesome classifications: in 1982 (Pacific Soc. Rev.) Stebbins distributed the essential applied explanation of genuine recreation, utilizing easygoing relaxation as the near background. At that point, ahead of schedule in 1997, he distributed in Leisure Studies a comparable explanation on easygoing relaxation. In the vicinity of 1975 and the present he has distributed a scope of hypothetical and exact articles, sections, and books on beginners (artists, performing artists, baseball players, football players, diversion conjurers, stand-up funnies, archeologists, space experts), specialists (barbershop artists, social travelers, kayakers, snowboarders, mountain climbers, and other nature challenge devotees), and vocation volunteers, especially those in the North American francophone groups outside Quebec. A third classification of relaxation – "extend based recreation" – was characterized and examined in Leisure Studies (Jan.,

Increasingly, good mental health in the workplace is an issue being raised. Job stresses are being recognized as affecting work performance and also an individual’s over-all well-being. There is a lot of information available about how to promote good mental health in the workplace but perhaps insufficient initiatives actually being used. Providing employees with information promoting good mental health alerts them to the problems but may not achieve the solutions. Within the larger society good physical health is overwhelmingly accepted as the first step to good mental health. Can mental health issues in the workplace be addressed in the same way, by
The positive impact that leisure can on wellness is often discussed in the literature. The American Correctional Association believes that leisure and recreation is an essential part of rehabilitation. “Leisure/recreation provides a way of changing ones regular routine and it helps to intervene and rehabilitate (Caplin, 1996)”. “Leisure has been shown to enhance psychological wellbeing and health and to act as a resource for coping with stress and stressors associated with negative life events and has the potential to enable an individual to experience a sense of self outside of their oppression (Yue et.
Addressing job stress is not only the responsibility of the organization. Individuals must also share the responsibility for dealing with stress that is affecting them. They must be willing to take care of themselves through leading healthy lifestyles including eating a balanced diet, exercising, and taking advantage of stress reductions techniques and therapies which could include yoga, meditation or aromatherapy.
Happiness is how something is viewed as opposed to a physical thing. However, happiness is not only a perspective but also a choice. Success and happiness are frequently linked to contentment but happiness should not be dependent on success. In spite of not succeeding in my chosen sport of horse riding the enjoyment it provided for me far outweighed any d...
Happiness is a feeling that humans naturally desire. Without it, one feels incomplete. In this generation, happiness has taken on a definition by how we are presented to one another. It is measured by how much money we have, how famous we are, or the things we possess. When in reality, none of these things guarantee a happy life. Happiness is something that cannot be bought with money, but rather, it must be found, earned, sought after. Each and every one of us has our own list of things that we consider to make us happy. However, happiness shines brightest through the relationships we create, and the goals we make for ourselves to strive after. Along with these two essential sources, we then can mix and match those things in life that we enjoy to create our own unique formula for happiness.

But in this debate, one question still raises its head - What is happiness? Happiness is not actually leading a luxurious life, but the luxury of living a life. Happiness is not actually about expanding your business, but it lies in expanding the horizons of life. Happiness is not having a meal in the most famous restaurant, but having it with your most beloved family. It does not lie in attending honorable parties, but to attend a party with honor.
