Happiness can come in many different ways for people. For me, my Pursuit of Happiness is doing what you love and living your life to your expectations. Over this unit of American Literature we have studied The Great Gatsby the characters looked to others for their happiness. In Of Mice and Men The characters did what made others happy instead of themselves and also looked to simple things for happiness. Although in Ain't I a Woman Sojourner Truth did what made her happy even if everyone was against her. If you are doing something that makes you happy, don't let others try and take that away from you. In the novel Of Mice and Men, Lennie is like a little brother to George. George will do anything to make sure Lennie stays out of trouble. Although George becomes frustrated with Lennie many times throughout the novel George would still do anything for Lennie's happiness even though it may not please George, he does it for Lennie and Lennie’s happiness brings George happiness. George stood up for Lennie many times, “...But he never hurt her. He jus’ wanted to touch that red dress.” (79) George told the boss that Lennie has gotten into trouble, but that's because people just take him the wrong way. Even though Lennie may deserve the consequences of some his actions, George finds an easy way out for Lennie even though it could be the hardest thing for George. Such as the end of the story when George had to kill Lennie. It took everything in George to do that and now he has to live the rest of his life with that. Another thing I learned this year is happiness can come in very small things. I've heard this my whole life but this story really made me think about this phrase. Lennie’s attitude is a good example of this phrase. Lennie loves the feeling of soft things, such as the red dress. George then tells Lennie he may have a puppy when it gets older, “I bet he won’t come in here to sleep tonight. He’d sleep right alongside that box in the barn…” (79) Lennie
