Public Nudity Should Not be Allowed
In the summer of 1996 Gwen Jacobs enjoyed a topless summer stroll during
which she was seen by a local O.P.P officer, was apprehended and subsequently
charged with indecent exposure. Gwen Jacobs pleaded not guilty in court and won
the right to go topless in Ontario. This incident brought up an excellent
question: should women be allowed to go topless on public beaches and in other
public areas? The answer is strictly no, women should not be allowed to go
topless anywhere outside of their own home.
One of the many reasons why I believe that women should not be allowed
to go topless is with respect to the safety of women. Men and boys have, in
recent years, been using short, tight, skirts and shirts as an excuse for rape
or date rape. Men have said that the girl was wearing a tight shirt and short
skirt and it was obvious that she was easy and wanted the attention. This
statement leads me to my next point.
The average human being upon first contact with a stranger bases his
initial impression of that person solely on the person's appearance. This is
only natural as the only thing that we know about this stranger is what we see
of them the first time we meet. We all are aware of the sayings
"Preppy","Jockish","Skater","Sluty" etc. This final saying, “Sluty” is
interpreted by 90 percent of North Americans as a tight skirt and tight tank top
which happens to be the usual ensemble of a prostitute. This first impression
of a girl in nothing but a skirt and a bare chest will no doubt elevate to the
new version of a “Slut” and a girl that wants it.
My second point is, what kind of questions will a mother be asked by her
son when he sees a half nude woman walking down the street. The first question
that this child will ask is why do these women have no shirt on and you do?
Your reply will be well ahhh go talk to your father. This dilemma will no doubt
be brought about as these and other questions about the sexual nature of the
body will be put forth by young children. Questions that you as a parent do not
feel should be answered truthfully to such a young child.
My third point begins thousands of years ago when man first walked on
the earth. When man first walked he hunted and his wife(clothless) cleaned the
game and took care of the young.
And then we stopped at that. For, upon the blue of the sky below us, we saw our own face for the first time.” (Rand 80).Because he now knows how his image looks, he feels like he can trust himself and confidently adds, “And we thought that we could trust this being who looked upon us from the stream, and that we had nothing to fear with this being.” (Rand 80).... ...
John Proctor is portrayed throughout the play to be a man who has high moral values that he must abide by. He can spot hypocrisy in others easily and judges himself no less harshly. Elizabeth Proctor says to him in the second act:
To begin with, Proctor was considered a strong person in the community, and he was respected for it. He was a handsome, hard-working, and revered man in the community. To the people of Salem, he was a dedicated farmer that had done nothing to blacken his family name. His attitude was “. . . even-tempered, and [he was] not easily lead. . .” by the rumors and hysteria surrounding Salem at the time of the witch accusations (Miller 21). When other were jumping to the conclusion of witchcraft and starting to fear, Proctor kept a realistic, skeptical look on the situation. Contrary to the ideas of the time, Proctor would miss church and openly disagree with Reverend Parris (Scheidt and Calandra). Despite this, he had a strong belief in God and followed his own moral standards more than strict rules the Puritan church set out at that time. He was revered in Salem as an honest man who always spoke his mind, and who had the ability to silence the hypocrites with his quick logic (Sparknotes Editors). Whenever Reverend Parris would try to tear Proctor down with criticism on his church attendance and Sunday activities, Proctor would always cou...
want to go for a walk?” The child has not really been given any choice
I didn’t think much of it at the time – I assumed she meant that he might put the diaper on funny or dress the baby in mismatching clothes. What I didn’t realize was that my friend was warning me against a phenomenon known as “maternal gatekeeping.”
Traditional gender roles are the behaviors and practices we adopt from learning and what has been passed on from past generations. We learn these from our fathers, mothers, grandparents, and peers. It’s a set of unwritten laws that each gender operates under. These roles have no exception. This soon becomes a problem in society because it creates sexism based off of traditional principles on what each gender should be doing or how they should be acting. Research suggest that “Sexism is defined as prejudice or discrimination toward people based on their gender” (Marks & Zaikman, 2014, Pg. 334). Sexism correlates with the double standard of women on the aspect of it being acceptable in society for men to promote sexual activity and women being bashed and looked down upon when they promote their sexuality. There has been more prevalent news of women taking the stand on their sexuality and bodies. The double standard that exist in America has more recently raised attentiveness in society with such campaigns as Free-the-Nip. The free the nip campaign is a fight for equal rights amongst women. The main ideology of the campaign is for women to have equal rights when it comes to being bare chested in public, the same rights that men have (Reporter, 2015). The double standard here is society saying that women should not be allowed to be bare chested taking
Victims of rape are almost always asked if they were flirting, drinking, or dressing in a manner that may have been interpreted as giving consent, despite whether they did actually give consent or not.
One school rule that I think should be changed is the dress code. Some things on our dress code should be changed. Such as fingertip length shorts, shoulders not being able to be shown (tank tops). Some schools are even beginning to banned leggings and yoga pants. Since I think these should be changed, I will be explaining all of my reasons for each dress code mistake.
This rape is known as “acquaintance rape” or “date rape.” Eighty percent of all rapes are, in fact, acquaintance rapes. This kind of rape happens when a man and a woman go out on a date together. The man forces the woman to have sex with him when she does not want to. Also called simple rape, which differs from real rape, because real rape involves weapons, violence and attackers.

Would anybody want their freedom taken from them? Nobody would willingly give their freedom up. What’s the next thing thats going to happen, will schools having edible food. Hard to see, right? So are uniforms. Schools should not have uniforms for these three reasons: It takes the students freedom of expression away, it’s a bandaid reason to cover up violence, and some parents might not be able to afford the uniforms.
It is not up for Congressmen and distressed aunts to decide a decision for someone. Just as young teenage daughters covet trendy, short-skirts, there is always disapproval from elders suggesting that the skirt is not appropriate, and shouldn’t be purchased. Yet, are they to decide the wardrobe of this young female for the rest of her life? Ultimately, it is up to the daughter to decide what she wants, what fits right, what looks good, and what will help he...
To gain insight on the role of being a working mother I interviewed my mother, Jane Smith. Smith currently works forty, or more, hours a week as an office manager for a family business. Her job requires her to be at work from eight in the morning until five or six in the evening Monday through Friday. In addition to her role as an employee, she is currently married and is a mother of four daughters. These daughters are between the ages of thirteen and twenty-one; of these four daughters, three live at home with the family while the other is currently completing a study-abroad year in Germany. Smith has been a working mother for the past seven years, before which she worked as a stay-at-home parent. Her job requires her ...
