Public health inspires me by confronting a broad spectrum of health concerns for the betterment of humanity. I was introduced to public health as a freshman at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. I have always known that I want to hold a health related career, but I had not narrowed down the variety of opportunities. pursuing my interests, I joined the Undergraduate Public Health Association (UPHA) which presented me with the question: what is public health? I discovered that the answer is more complicated than I thought. An Individual can impact the health of humankind as a whole while the construction of society can impact the health of a single individual. Public health is in turn, integrated into everything around us. Driven to become an active participant in creating a healthier community, I became an ambassador and the volunteer coordinator of UPHA. Knowing from experience that working in public health benefits the greater good, I wanted to make an even larger impact. I collaborated with peers to create our own student organization called For All Women, with which I serve as the vice president. We created this organization with the intention of combating a public health issue that I am entirely passionate about. Our goals consist of promoting awareness of preventative health issues for underserved women and raising money for Share the Health of Madison, a clinic for women in need run by medical volunteers. To date, we have educated others across many social media outlets, fundraised by selling T-shirts made by our board members, and are currently organizing a 5K to raise funds for the clinic while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
