The United States federal government defines harboring as when a person or groups of people knowingly and recklessly disregard the fact that an illegal alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States and attempts to shield or protect the people from deportations. This is what sanctuary cities do and is happening in over one hundred cities across the country that are protecting criminal aliens. States like California, New Jersey, and Texas are acting in this absurd practice of creating these so-called sanctuary cities to protect criminals from federal prosecution. In 2016, the American taxpayers spent twenty seven billion dollars that went to sanctuary cities. I believe that money could have been spent on many other things that would provide benefits for the American people and further their interests. There are over one hundred cities across the country who feel that protecting illegal immigrants while spending a boatload of taxpayer money is acceptable, but it is not acceptable at all. The biggest spenders of sanctuary cities include Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City. These cities at the same time also have a very high homeless population. I find it despicable for these cities to choose to put illegal immigrants before their own citizens who are trying to rebuild their lives while they are homeless. The cities that I mentioned should stop funding sanctuary cities and focus on supporting their communities and spend money on what they need to have a better life and fulfill their needs. Overall, sanctuary cities are a burden on taxpayers who deserve more money spent on what they feel will better their communities rather than benefiting the lives of people who have come to this country illegally and feel entitled to receive benefits from …show more content…

This is how America really feels about sanctuary cities and I could not agree any more. I know the people coming into this country illegally are not all bad people. But there are criminals. You are breaking federal law when you choose to come to this country illegally. Myself and many others believe that if you really want to come to the United States, you are going to go through the long process and wait like everyone else has to. The people surveyed in this pole believe in the rule of law. If you break the law, you have to face the consequences. It is unjust for cities to choose not to follow federal immigration laws and protect these illegal immigrants. I believe that this is a big insult to the immigrant communities. They took the time to fill out the proper documents and wait in the long lines to be processed and become American citizens and when they see that people come to this country illegally and are protected by certain cities, I would see it as a slap in the face. Despite the fact that some cities in the United States feel that protecting illegal immigrants is justified, the majority of the country feels that those cities should be following federal immigration laws and deporting that criminal
