The United States federal government defines harboring as when a person or groups of people knowingly and recklessly disregard the fact that an illegal alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States and attempts to shield or protect the people from deportations. This is what sanctuary cities do and is happening in over one hundred cities across the country that are protecting criminal aliens. States like California, New Jersey, and Texas are acting in this absurd practice of creating these so-called sanctuary cities to protect criminals from federal prosecution. Sanctuary cities limit their cooperation with federal immigration enforcement agents in order to protect low-priority immigrants from deportation. I completely believe …show more content…
this practice is insane and ludacris. People forget that these people have already committed a federal crime by not entering in this country legally. In addition, these states are using taxpayer’s money to fund activities relating to this highly controversial topic. I believe that this topic is so controversial because it divides one's belief whether it is ethically okay for cities not follow federal immigration laws and protect illegal immigrants. While some believe that these people coming to this country are trying to provide better lives for themselves and their family, they are still breaking federal law by not legally entering into the United States. I believe that sanctuary cities should not exist because they are a waste of taxpayer money and are not supported by the majority of the country. First and foremost, sanctuary cities are a waste of taxpayer money.
In 2016, the American taxpayers spent twenty seven billion dollars that went to sanctuary cities. I believe that money could have been spent on many other things that would provide benefits for the American people and further their interests. There are over one hundred cities across the country who feel that protecting illegal immigrants while spending a boatload of taxpayer money is acceptable, but it is not acceptable at all. The biggest spenders of sanctuary cities include Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York City. These cities at the same time also have a very high homeless population. I find it despicable for these cities to choose to put illegal immigrants before their own citizens who are trying to rebuild their lives while they are homeless. The cities that I mentioned should stop funding sanctuary cities and focus on supporting their communities and spend money on what they need to have a better life and fulfill their needs. Overall, sanctuary cities are a burden on taxpayers who deserve more money spent on what they feel will better their communities rather than benefiting the lives of people who have come to this country illegally and feel entitled to receive benefits from …show more content…
cities. “A survey from Harvard–Harris Poll provided exclusively to The Hill found that 80 percent of voters say local authorities should have to comply with the law by reporting to federal agents the illegal immigrants they come into contact with” (Easley).
This is how America really feels about sanctuary cities and I could not agree any more. I know the people coming into this country illegally are not all bad people. But there are criminals. You are breaking federal law when you choose to come to this country illegally. Myself and many others believe that if you really want to come to the United States, you are going to go through the long process and wait like everyone else has to. The people surveyed in this pole believe in the rule of law. If you break the law, you have to face the consequences. It is unjust for cities to choose not to follow federal immigration laws and protect these illegal immigrants. I believe that this is a big insult to the immigrant communities. They took the time to fill out the proper documents and wait in the long lines to be processed and become American citizens and when they see that people come to this country illegally and are protected by certain cities, I would see it as a slap in the face. Despite the fact that some cities in the United States feel that protecting illegal immigrants is justified, the majority of the country feels that those cities should be following federal immigration laws and deporting that criminal
aliens. Sanctuary cities pose a great threat to this country. Not only do they cost a large amount of wasteful taxpayer money, they also create many legal issues in courts. The people who reside in these sanctuary cities are not all bad people, but if certain cities have an open door policy when it comes to illegal immigration, they are going to have certain situations where an illegal immigrant causes great harm to the community, but if that illegal alien was not in the country in the first place, it would have never happened. People who rely on sanctuary cities to protect them from deportation are cheaters. They took the easy way by coming to this country illegally and going to cities where they would not face deportation from the federal government. For the legal immigrant communities who spent years working hard to become a citizens of this country, feel that it is repulsive for some to just hop over the border and not face any consequences. I believe that sanctuary cities should not exist because they are a waste of taxpayer money and are not supported by the majority of the country.
Thousands of illegal immigrants were forced to return to their countries. I admit that illegal immigration is a Federal Government crime, but SB 1070 is a discriminatory law against Hispanics. I believe Arizona’s Law SB 1070 should be forbidden because it only targets one specific type of illegal alien, those who are Hispanic, which promotes racism. First of all, the Arizona’s SB 1070 proposition was signed on April 23, 2010 by Jan Brewer. SB 1070 stands for “Support Our Law Enforcement and Neighborhoods Act”.
. Spaid argues that hate crime laws, sometimes referred to as “reform laws,” are ultimately ineffective, harmful, and maintain an oppressive and violent system in which it claims to resist. These laws “include crimes motivated by the gender identity and/or expression of the victim,” (79) implicated in seven states across the country, such as the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Prevention Act, created after the hate murders of these two men fueled by bigotry and hate. Proponents of these laws argue that they would work as “preventative messages,” and increase the regard in which these crimes are considered, under the terms of preserving the humanity of these victims, often trans women, while increasing their visibility. These
Billions of taxpayer dollars, my taxes that I work fifty hours a week to pay for are being spent on the same illegal immigrants that I work fifty hours a week to apprehend and deter from entering the United States. If Texas wants to waste taxpayer dollars, Texas needs to waste taxpayer dollars on programs beneficial to those that pay taxes. SNAP, WIC, and Medicaid are social services that are there to help those in need. A prime example of using social services properly is a mother that loses her job and can’t provide food for her family. WIC and SNAP can supplement the mother’s income to buy groceries to feed her family. The lost of health insurance can be supplemented by Medicaid. Social services are made to be a temporary fix to get families back on their feet. Illegal immigrants are establishing themselves in the United States and using social services as a means to live off instead of pulling themselves out of poverty. Texas needs to change this, and by change I mean Texas needs to grow some testicular fortitude and ...
Base on Maria Hinojosa’s view, “In Arizona, they banded the Mexican American study program in the public school. The program ended in 2012, but not without students protect.” (00:05:47). Base on the information from the radio of Latino USA, we understand how hard for the immigrations to survive with the racist issue. People come to the United State to achieve the America’s dream, which can provide for people an advance future. It is totally unfair that they shut down the program without provide any students protect. People can tell from this action that racists problems already happened in Arizona, and the new law SB1070 is actually increasing that problems become more complex. No matter where do we come from, or who we are, we have human right to treat other as respectful. By stopping people base on officers’ perceptions is already hurt people feeling and become not respectful to people. According to Jason Nier, Samuel Gaertner, Charles Nier and John Dovidio, authors of the article, “Can Racial Profiling Be Avoided Under Arizona Immigration Law? Lessons Learned From Subtle Bias Research and Anti-Discrimination Law,”
It is clear that illegal immigration has gotten out of control and constringent measures need to be taken to protect the United States borders. The local Government of Arizona recently decided to take control of the situation, by passing the “Support our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act” {House Bill 2162}. This bill gives law enforcement officers and agencies the authority, to lawfully stop, detain and arrest anyone who appears to look like an illegal alien. The bill out-right condones racial profiling and it violates civil rights, as well!
This is a blatant appeal to common practice fallacy, the reader deduces that because these cities are breaking federal immigration law that other cities should follow suit. Overall, the author’s first premise is a grand fallacy, with their argument completely ignorant of the rule of law in our civilized nation overshadowed by their appeal to common
Other countries see the United States as a land of opportunity and freedom. Because of this, Americans should be honored and willing to share their concept of freedom and equality with others. Instead, immigrants are forced to jump through hoops and struggle with red tape in hopes of experiencing American life. Currently, this hyped preconception is causing the immigration rate to become out of hand. With the illegal immigrate population growing by over 300,000 annually, it has developed into a national controversy. Like pouring sugar into a cup of coffee: some people don’t want any at all, while others think “the more the merrier”. This rift between parties will only be bridged by implementing a new, reformed immigration policy that incorporates the best of both worlds.
In a nation dominated by capitalism and free trade, steps are being taken to turn the ability to learn and other education rights into commodities that can be manipulated and controlled by companies. Charter schools are public schools funded by state money, but not unionized; they also can be in the form of a traditional brick and mortar schoolhouse or an online school (Ravitch)(Molnar)(“Preface to 'Are Charter and Magnet Schools Good Alternatives for Students?’”). According to their proponents, charter schools allow parents more sway over their child’s education (Jacoby 77). A charter school proponent Jeff Jacoby states, “Their goal: to build the kind of school that used to be commonplace in America-one providing a rigorous, traditional, fact-based
This article was written by Pricilla Alvarez on 6 Jun. 2017 to provide information of the concerns of Texas enforcing the SB4 law and whether it will be harmful rather than beneficial for the state when reporting crime or catching criminals. A detailed explanation on the SB4 crackdown in Texas and what it could mean can be found on The Atlantic website. The article starts off by giving a background of the crackdown of the sanctuary cities by providing evidence of counties who banned or restricted sanctuary cities, and states that the law “protects immigrants who are witnesses and victims of crimes”. The article goes on to confess that local law enforcement share conflicting reviews of the law, and the punishments that follow if these officials
Throughout America, there is disparity regarding attitudes toward immigrants. Policies fluctuate throughout the entire country, in different states, and even major cities. While Americans have the right to be angry with those who enter the country illegally, state governments should attack this problem with optimistic tactics. Bills and laws that treat undocumented immigrants poorly and unfairly do not achieve our goal.
Being a sanctuary city doesn't not mean that East Valley will providing a variety of benefits to illegal immigrants. Instead, it simply means that refuse to use city funds and resources to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It is not the
Police shootings occur all over the world but are a huge problem within the United States. We continue to hear more and more about them. These shootings are making headlines. Front page news it seems almost weekly. All the shootings go one of two ways. Either a Police Officer has been shot or a Police Officer has shot a citizen, but either way the final result is death. Whether an Officer has been shot or an Officer has shot someone these cases seem to be related to one thing, fear. People in today’s society feel as though they can’t trust Police Officers as they are there to hurt and kill them. And Police Officers feel as though they are in danger of doing their everyday duties because people see them as the “bad guys” and want to hurt or kill them. Yes, police brutality and racism still exist, but not all cops are bad. Yes there are still bad citizens in this world that want to kill and harm others, but not all citizens are bad. People seem to react to these shootings by rioting quickly after a police officer has shot and killed someone without
The crime rates are 20% higher than non sanctuaries. In the year of 2014, there were over 7000 charges, all transgressions committed repetitively by the same immigrants. Though sanctuary cities are a home to many immigrants, some settlers can become a liability. I believe that we as citizens should fight to stabilize our community. In addition to sanctuary cities and their dangers, they also decrease our economy.

The child’s game had ended. After I nearly ran Kurtz over, we stood facing each other. He was unsteady on his feet, swaying like the trees that surrounded us. What stood before me was a ghost. Each layer of him had been carved away by the jungle, until nothing remained. Despite this, his strength still exceeded that of my own. With the tribal fires burning so close, one shout from him would unleash his natives on me. But in that same realization, I felt my own strength kindle inside me. I could just as easily muffle his command and overtake him. The scene flashed past my eyes as though I was remembering not imagining. The stick that lay two feet from me was beating down on the ghost, as my bloodied hand strangled his cries. My mind abruptly reeled backwards as I realized what unspeakable dark thoughts I had let in. Kurtz seemed to understand where my mind had wandered; it was as though the jungle’s wind has whispered my internal struggles to him. His face twisted into a smile. He seemed to gloat and enjoy standing by to watch my soul begin to destroy itself.
