These are some of the common consequences of what happens when people, who do not study for an exam have to deal with. Though some people who don’t study may have a good reason as to why they did not study for the exam. For example, depending on the level of difficulty of the exam or they might excel in that specific course. But overall there are great benefits to studying before taking an exam as well as negative benefits to not studying before an exam. The effects of not studying for an exam are scoring a low grade on the exam, knowing little to no information about what is on the exam, and spending too much time answering each question on the exam.

In More Testing, More Learning by Patrick O’Malley, O’Malley proposes many different solutions to the problems with exams, and test taking for college students. Throughout the story he references that the education system should implement frequent exams and quizzes. Instead of one big final exam causing huge amounts of anxiety for students. He claims that having one big exam isn’t in the best interest for the students. In fact, he believes that it hurts the student long-term and psychologically. Frequent exams and quizzes would be designed to help the students. He also believes that it would help the student develop into better frequent study habits.
College students work hard assuming that they will get the grade they deserve but this is not always the case.
In college, just about all students procrastinate in some type of way. They do not realize that they need to stay ahead of their work and stay caught up. Students do not realize that procrastination can become a habit and it can ruin a person’s life. They also do not realize that procrastination can be a burden on them. Procrastination can break students in college. Students in college may struggle because of procrastination.
In the article “Learning How to Learn” Glenn C. Altschuler talks about the students that do not know how study. First, Altschuler stated that in 1999 there were more than 364,00 students in the University of California at Los Angeles discovered that only 31.5 percent were studying and doing their homework for only six or more hours a week. In my opinion, studying or doing homework for only six or more hours a week will not get a good grade for some courses in college. For example, in order to get a good grade in the biology college course you must to take a lot of notes, memorize the notes, and do all the homework assignments. Doing all that work, it will probably take you three hours or less everyday.

He describes the consequences of constant test anxiety including lowered self-esteem, reduced effort, and loss of desire to complete school tasks. Students who have academic anxiety also have a higher risk of developing depression, and often feel deprived of confidence (Cunningham, 2008). Thus, academic anxiety can become extreme, and have negative effects of students’ well being.

Some people need complete silence to concentrate, and others need a little noise. Find out what works best for you and make sure you stick with that. If you do really bad in school, you are going to have a really bad job. Then you will think back to your school days and wish you worked harder on your grades and did not just slack off. Grades take effort, and effort takes dedication to want to get good grades. You have to want to get good grades and then you have to put the work into getting those good grades.
When students have easier grading criteria, it increases their ability to learn the material instead of focusing on earning better grades without understanding the material. Students sometimes need grading criteria that will allow them to focus on their studying more than focusing on how they will be able to pass their classes with good grades that will not affect their GPA’s. For example, I have taken many classes throughout my college career such as Psychology, Philosophy, and Statistics, some of them I need as major requirements. I took the classes and I have no idea until this moment what I have learned in those classes. As said, I have learned the material for these classes to pass the exams, and forget what I have learned the day after the exam.
