Information technology is the application of computers and telecommunication equipment to store, retrieve, transmit, and manipulate data. This includes distributing and manufacturing information. This use of technology can be applied in the workforce, the educational system, and social life. Centuries ago, people did not have the means of technology that we have now. Alexander Graham Bell received the patent for his invention of the telephone in 1876. The first fully functioning computer was developed from 1936- 1938 by Konrad Zuse in his parent’s living room. The Internet has been developing since the 1950’s. Things are still being added to the Internet, the databases are surging with information. We live in a world where we are surrounded …show more content…
Computers are prime examples of information technology. They can communicate and store and retrieve data. Phones are another example. We can call and text message on mobile devices. Messages are sent wirelessly. We can also have conversations through videos. Information technology has some ethical problems. Hackers and identity thieves are in today’s society. Information can easily be gathered through the Internet and other kinds of communications devices. Emails can send spam or junk mail that contain viruses and other harmful Trojan horses that damage computers. Spying is very common, whether it be done through cameras or through computers. The controversial Patriot Act gives the government its freedom to spy on citizens of this country. By this, we are under the government’s surveillance. Nearly every occupation uses these means of communication. Because of these devices and means of communication, the world has become more unified. Leaders of countries can communicate through videos and phone calls. Things such as writing letters, receiving mail, buying hard copy CDs, and reading books are becoming less common. Some of those things were new to the generation before this …show more content…
The 2013 word of the year was the word “Selfie”, quickly sending pictures to each other. Technology has come a long way. Most people have cell phones and home phones. I believe that long in the future, cell phones may replace desktop computers. I have a cell phone that I use to communicate with my friends and family. I also enjoy spending time watching television. I receive the shows that I watch by a modem. Modems transmit information. I like to listen to the radio and hear music from previous decades. Radios are a form of information technology. My laptop is used to write my ideas for books. I have both a Facebook and a Twitter account. They are dormant but I can get on them to interact with my friends and family that live in other areas. The Internet is also an example of information technology. I sometimes like to surf the internet to catch up on my favorite shows or research something I’m interested in. Information is constantly being shared on the Internet. Websites I sometimes visit like Wikipedia, are being edited by people around the world. They can edit a website from their own homes. I can also watch television and movies through the Internet. I like to use search engines such as Yahoo and Google. Those are information databases. I look up videos on YouTube. Again, people all over the world are sharing videos on this site. On You Tube, you can also make comments about the videos you
Science and technology go hand in hand. Scientific discoveries result in technology advancements for the people. In today’s technological world, it has progressed to a whole new level. This type of modernization opened doors for new and improved computers, cell phones, medical treatment, and machinery. In a reference article, “Computers and the Internet in America: Modern World” by Christopher Cumo, he discusses how computers and the internet have impacted human life since the 20th century. Technology has always been a part of society and as
From walkmans to CD players to iPods, technology has evolved over the succession of the years; humans have taken extensive steps towards a technological transformation that has revolutionized the manner in which several individuals communicate with one another. Likewise, various humans have opted for more modern methods to connect and contact their loved ones such as speaking on a cell phone, video chatting, e-mailing, instant messaging, and conversing through social media. With these contemporary methods of communication, global interaction has now been facilitated and easily accessible; conversing with individuals from across the world is as transparent and prompt as speaking with individuals within the same city. Nonetheless, these technological
The internet and all technological advances give us easier communication and increase productivity, however, at what cost? The loss of one's privacy. It is okay only when it is violated for one's own protection. There are different reason, good and bad, for the loss in privacy. In 1984 the characters don't have privacy due to big brother always watching, the NSA does more snooping than securing, social media does more than connect friends, and technological advances make our lives easier.
Health information technology (HIT) is improving the population of the United States of America’s health outcomes and heath care quality. Health information technology has many benefits, including efficiency, financial savings for patients and hospitals, increased safety for patients, and the potential to improve quality of patient care. According to the RAND research, health information technology can save up to $77 billion per year. As a matter of fact, accurate health information records indicate that health information technology is decreasing people’s death rates. After many follow ups it has reported that the use of electronic medical records has “reduce death by 34%”. They found that benefits of health information technology has been
Technology is a controversial issue in today’s world and especially in my world; it is important to understand that my father owns and operates a successful computer sales and repair business and so my knowledge of computer usage is quite extensive having not only listened to my father, but also having completed a high school computer internship. I am also currently working in a Technology Fellowship program. When it comes to the topic of technology, most of us will agree that technology surrounds us in today’s world—from television, smart phones, video games, tablets, to computers—we can readily access multitudes of information by simply accessing a computer internet search or turning on the television news. Technology has been a part of our
Information technology has advanced in multiple ways in society, where organizations has implement the structure into their work environment. Industries have outsource their manufacturing to other places in the world and rely on telecommunication to keep the marketing. The geographic distribution has changed significantly by reducing the distance it takes to complete an operation, due to information technology. These are just a couple of examples of how this advanced technology has reshape our society and continuing.
If nineteenth century was an era of the Industrial revolution in Europe, I would say that computer and Information Technology have domineered since the twentieth century. The world today is a void without computers, be it healthcare, commerce or any other field, the industry won’t thrive without Information Technology and Computer Science. This ever-growing field of technology has aroused interest in me since my childhood.
Computer technology is advancing at rapid rates. More and more information is found and processed every day. According to Linowes, ìMore information has been produced in the last thirty years than in the previous five thousand.î1 This information that is rapidly becoming available has produced many benefits to the human race. It has given humans more and more control over nature. It has been stated that ìthe computer has opened up new dimensions in communication, architectural design, engineering, medical analysis, and even artistic expression.î2 People thousands of miles away can do more than simply talk over the phone, but see each other while talking on their computer screens. Architectural structures are planned three dimensionally on the computer. This is much faster and easier than using blueprints. Humans are even considering education through computers. Students would not have to leave the comfort of their own home to go to school. Linowes states that ìinstead of confining formal learning to the classroom, students would be taught wherever they might beÖby giving them access to centralized information networks.î3 This would open up new doors for schooling and revolutionize the education system. Tasks for almost every profession and area of interest are done faster, more efficiently, and with less effort on computers.
Technology is constantly changing, growing, and evolving, but with each change in technology we risk our own privacy. With each new update we get we are told it improves our network or life, but in reality it makes it easier to invade our privacy just like in the 1984 novel by George Orwell. There are many parallels between 1984 and our present day, like the over watchful eyes of the government for our own good. . One could say that the human race is more advanced than animals because of the technology that it has. Technology is a great thing, but it can also be used to control people.
“We barely have time to pause and reflect these days on how far communicating through technology has progressed. Without even taking a deep breath, we’ve transitioned from email to chat to blogs to social networks and more recently to twitter” (Alan 2007). Communicating with technology has changed in many different ways. We usually “get in touch” with people through technology rather than speaking with them face to face. The most popular way people discuss things, with another individual, is through our phones. Phones have been around way before I was born in 1996, but throughout the years, they have developed a phone called a “smart phone”. The smart phone has all kinds of new things that we can use to socialize with our peers. On these new phones, we can connect with our friends or family on social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Technology has also developed Skype, a place you can talk with people on the computer with instant voice and video for hours. The new communication changes have changed drastically from the new advances made in technology through our smart phones, social networking sites, and Skype.
While generations of today have witnessed countless technological advances, there are also downfalls to these progressions. Technology interferes with education, attention spans, relationships, social interactions, self esteem, and even creativity. In order for technology to have more pros than cons, it is pertinent to keep a clear perspective. Monitoring how much you or your children spend time using electronics is the key to making sure that technology is not harmful.
Today is an era of information explosion. In the past few years, many newly invented technological devices and software are now tightly integrated with our everyday lives. Today, people can look up almost any kind of information, make friends, communicate with others, and express ourselves with the simple touch of a button on a device we usually keep within arm’s reach. “Widespread use of technology is changing the way we work, learn, and communicate – even the way we carry out our regular, daily activities.”(Seifer and Mihalynuk) These devices not only benefit our livelihoods and increase our happiness, but they are also integral in advancing education, technology, development, and, in general, human evolution. The children of today, who have been raised in this era of information explosion, will undoubtedly reap such benefits and, in turn, advance society towards a better generation.
People today use technology in their daily lives. It helps us to make our life easier and
Technology has changed modern society drastically, both positively and negatively. Technology has influenced every aspect of our life, making it simpler but not necessarily better. Albert Einstein was concerned about the advancement of technology. "I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction."1 Undoubtedly, what has changed the most are communication, the spread of information, and how business is practiced. Consequently, practically everyone knows how to use a computer, connect to the Internet, or use a smartphone. This is demonstrated by the way the Internet is used daily by millions of people to communicate, to sell, advertise, retrieve, and share information. Thanks to the Internet, information from anywhere in the world is at our fingertips. As a result, the advancement of technology has changed our life in many ways including; sharing of information, communication, business, education, social interaction, simplifying everyday tasks, replacing basic skills and jobs.
The Impact of Information Technology on Individuals, Society and Organizations Information systems and information technology are important in supporting, maintaining and enriching many aspects of livings. They bring benefits to lives of individuals, operations of business and the functioning of society but there are also drawbacks associated with technology and information system. Both good and bad impacts of information system and technology to individuals, organisations and the society will be discussed in detail in the following paragraphs.
