Social media differ from traditional or industrial media in many ways, including quality, reach, frequency, and usability. So in my opinion I really do think that social media would enhance our mental and social capabilities.
We would be able to know if social media has the effects to increase our mental and social capabilities. When we finally understand how, why and when these effects occur we would be able to see social media in different light but there is always the chance that social media does not increase our mental and social capabilities but only to decrease it. I assume that people would get smarter and sociable by the means of social media because in the first place its purpose was to ensure that the people’s communication was not limited. But they’re also more lonely and distant from one another in their unplugged” with our technology today we can do lot of things but also at the same time we lose something important along the way that make us human for example our sociability. We think and give priority more to our online relationships and sometimes forget our true relationships with our friends and family. As Ethan Kross (2013) said “Increased feelings of isolation and a decreased sense of well-being seems connected with the way in which we use social media, such as
Facebook or Instagram: passively or actively” this means that people who uses social media a lot are lonely in the inside they try to forget about what is really happening around them and try to escape to the illusion of social
However, social media could also achieve this. It means that social media could also solve social injustice. Social change needs people who have ability to independent thinking and creative thinking. Independent thinking and creative thinking would be improved by the social media. Here is a great example from the Duke University. The provost of the university tried to rely on the iPod experiment to start their educational innovation for a digital age for incoming students. Every incoming student could get a new iPod and the university wondered how students utilize their iPods as tools for their study. The result was amazing. Students from different majors could utilize their iPods in different situations. Their learning and self-study became much more efficient than before. Medical students could use iPods for practicing their heart hearing skills, music students use iPods to upload compositions for self-listening and self-critique, and engineering students mangle and dissect iPods to study (50). This example shows that social media could practice independent thinking. Nobody teach student how to utilize IPods in their study. But they independently find effective ways to work on their own study. New forms of study are good samples of changing in education career. If people could utilize social media in a large picture, the society could also change
People find that using social media is enjoyable, even pleasurable. Students at Harvard looked in to this claim: "Through a series of experiments, the researchers at Harvard University learned through the study that the act of disclosing information about oneself activates the same part of the brain that is associated with the sensation of pleasure, the same pleasure that we get from eating food, getting money or even having sex"(site2). In other words many find it pleasurable to post things about themselves and discover new things about those they know or admire, to a point where using social media each day becomes an addiction. The majority of the social media audience is teens or children from ages 7 to 21. Older people also post status, however not as frequent as the younger generation.
Technology today is more relied upon than ever before. If one needs to call someone half way around the world, simply take out a cell phone and dial their number. Within thirty seconds, one can be speaking to that person just as if two people were conversing face-to-face. In the same manner, one has access to endless knowledge and resources by the push of a few buttons or the click of a mouse. The use of social media today is becoming more prevalent than ever before because of the convenience it offers.
Lastly, students who use social networking applications very little or do not use them at all can be positively affected because they have a lot more time to complete homework, study, sleep, and practice good eating habits. These same students can be negatively affected because they usually don’t receive information pertaining to global issues and pop culture without the direct access to social media.

It would only improve our society today if social media never existed to our knowledge. Our society today feels so connected with social media that it interferes with our lives making every task even harder with the temptations.
