School is supposed to be a place where you learn and meet new friends and get an education. The school’s job is to help you get that education and succeed in life. Many people often forget that the school's job is also to keep the students safe and healthy. This includes taking measures to prevent tobacco, drugs, and other harmful things from being in the school and in student’s hands outside of school. As of right now some schools require all athletes to be drug tested based on certain state policies. I believe that every state should require all students to be randomly drug tested. This way if a student is doing drugs then the school can intervene early before he or she becomes addicted to the substance. The reason why other …show more content…

They say that there are many things wrong with this plan and that the plan can be cheated upon. They are right, but the pros weigh out the cons in this case, these are some examples of the things that the test doesn’t do well in. Test are expensive to buy and will hurt some small schools with less money. Students who want to cheat the test can bring in someone else’s urine is clean. While the students that test positive aren’t supposed to be punished but sent to counselling, studies show that 8% of them get punished anyway. When an athlete test positive the suspension of the extra curricular activity can end up hurting the student even more. Although all of these cons can be true the pros outweigh the cons greatly. This is true because drug testing allows early intervention between the student and the drug and can change the direction the student is heading in in life. These test also intimidate people not to do drugs and to resist peer pressure because if not they will be caught. This also allows schools to fulfill their duty to create a drug free and healthy environment.
