Pros And Cons Of Biblical Flood

Local or Biblical: The Biblical Flood There are several arguments supporting a universal flood. Some of the topics include the following: depth, duration, the ark, the destruction of humanity, and geological implications. The first supportive argument is found in Genesis 7:19-20, from which we can infer the approximate depth of the flood. Look at verse 20,” And the waters prevailed fifteen cubits upward.” This does not mean that the water was fifteen cubits (8.2 yards) high, but probably refers to the underwater clearance of the ark or how high the water was on the ark. (ukbiblestudents.co.uk) This means that the water was approximately 15 cubits above the highest point. In the second part of verse 20,”…and the mountains were covered,” we know …show more content…

Everest, although it could have, as the mountain could have been formed or built up during the time of great upheaval when the “fountains of the deep were broken up” (Gen. 7:11). Though, for certain, we know that the water was high enough; high enough for the ark to float without hindrance, and high enough to destroy every living thing, aside from those on the ark. The second argument for a worldwide flood is its time, or duration, on the earth. From a careful study of the Genesis flood account, scholars believe that the flood, from start to finish, lasted 371 days. This period can be broken into two parts: prevailing (rising) and assuaging (subsiding). The prevailing of the flood waters lasted about twenty-one weeks. Most likely, the waters reached their peak in the first 40 days, during which “the widows of heaven were opened (Gen. 7:11),” and then maintained they height for another 110 days (7:4, 12, 24). After God sent a wind to stop the prevailing waters (8:1), the assuaging lasted about thirty-one weeks. In verses 2 -3 of Genesis chapter 8, the Bible says, “The fountains of the deep and the windows of heaven were also stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained. And the waters receded continually from
