Introduction
Nursing is a crucial job in the healthcare industry. Many people underestimate the need for nurses and do not think they are as important as doctors. However, this is completely untrue. Nurses are the ones who communicate with the patients and are on the frontlines of evaluating and administering treatment to patients. It can be a rewarding career, but like anything it also has drawbacks.
Pros and Cons Summary My concerns for nursing include working with bodily fluids, stressful work, and long hours. One of my biggest concerns is that with the stressful work and long hours that I will get overstimulated by people. Sometimes, when I am tired and surrounded by others I become overwhelmed and annoyed by everything. This could be bad at the end of my shift, but hopefully in a work setting I would not feel it as much. Nursing has long twelve hour shifts and you often work nights, which sounds tiring to me. I am also concerned about the blood and bodily fluids. I think most people get used to it, but I still worry that I would not. Another concern is that I am noise sensitive. The pros in nursing include communication with patients, making a difference, and fast paced work. Communicating with new people is an enjoyable experience for me and makes me feel so much more satisfied with my day. This is one of the first things that drew me to nursing. Not only are you communicating with new people, but you are possibly saving their lives. Another pro is the the high intensity work. Nurses are dealing with people that are in critical conditions, but working on my toes at a fast pace is exciting. I have always had a fear of getting bored of my career, but even if that happens in nursing I could switch and become a different kind of nurse. I think it is also nice how as a nurse you can get paid to be on call and as long as you stay near the hospital, you can do whatever you
