Introduction
Nursing is a crucial job in the healthcare industry. Many people underestimate the need for nurses and do not think they are as important as doctors. However, this is completely untrue. Nurses are the ones who communicate with the patients and are on the frontlines of evaluating and administering treatment to patients. It can be a rewarding career, but like anything it also has drawbacks.
Pros and Cons Summary My concerns for nursing include working with bodily fluids, stressful work, and long hours. One of my biggest concerns is that with the stressful work and long hours that I will get overstimulated by people. Sometimes, when I am tired and surrounded by others I become overwhelmed and annoyed by everything. This could be bad at the end of my shift, but hopefully in a work setting I would not feel it as much. Nursing has long twelve hour shifts and you often work nights, which sounds tiring to me. I am also concerned about the blood and bodily fluids. I think most people get used to it, but I still worry that I would not. Another concern is that I am noise sensitive. The pros in nursing include communication with patients, making a difference, and fast paced work. Communicating with new people is an enjoyable experience for me and makes me feel so much more satisfied with my day. This is one of the first things that drew me to nursing. Not only are you communicating with new people, but you are possibly saving their lives. Another pro is the the high intensity work. Nurses are dealing with people that are in critical conditions, but working on my toes at a fast pace is exciting. I have always had a fear of getting bored of my career, but even if that happens in nursing I could switch and become a different kind of nurse. What is a nurse? According to the dictionary, a nurse is someone who is trained to care for sick or injured people. Nurses are well respected because they are in a skilled profession and work to remain accident free. Even though nurses are well respected there are stereotyped every day and many people have biased opinions about them. Some of which include being stereotyped as all being women, a profession many call men gay for being involved in, always working in a hospital, will always marry someone that is the medical field, all nurses wear white hospital gowns and a cap, that nursing is easy, are reject doctors, they are all the same, and they do not make a lot of money.
Working as a nurse can help you gain bonding skills, while working together to save an individual's life or to cure a disease. Also, all nurses know what they have to deal with, therefore it'll be just as much as a challenge for anyone as much as it would be for everyone else. Hospitals are not the only place that nurses take care of patients, they also work in schools, law firms, and insurance companies. The only bad things that I nurse has to look out for is being exposed to all different types of germs and viruses. Nurses also have to deal with a lot of blood, so this is not your average clean job. There are so many opportunities in nursing and so many ways to challenge myself and learn new things. I decided to go to school for my lpn when I had my first child. I had so many questions about my new baby’s health and her growth and development that I decided that becoming a lpn would help me know more about medicine and treatments. I was brand new at nursing, I had no medical background and neither did anyone in my immediate family. I remember hearing my family talk about diabetes, which is common in my family and all the myths and rumors they believed to be true. I chuckle now thinking back to the stories that they told and how false most of their information was.

The reason for this is the fact that I will be taking care of people when they need help the most. For numerous patients, I will be by their side when nobody else can be, which is an honor. On top of making a difference in my patients' lives, I will also have the satisfaction in knowing I helped save lives daily. I believe that life is precious and that everybody deserves a chance to live theirs to its fullest extent. Not only will I help save lives at work, but I may even have the chance to save lives outside of work. Emergencies are happening every second of every day, and at times people need help before first responders can arrive. If I were to be in the area of an emergency, I can help out until further help arrives. This could be the difference between life or death. With this being said, the skills I will learn in nursing can come in handy outside of my work and can potentially save somebody's life. I consider this an incredible benefit of my future
