Jeremiah is a prophet whose job, from God, was to tell the people of Israel about their wrongdoings and sin. Jeremiah was to tell them about the foes from the north, the Babylonians. Throughout the book, the Israelites are sinning and doing wrong which causes the covenant to be broken. To restore the world from their sins, they need a new covenant which is made with God. There have been prophets throughout every era of God's relationship with mankind, but the books of the prophets are during the later years of the kingdoms of Israel and Israel. The Prophetic Books were written from the days of Elijah (874-853 B.C.) until the time of Malachi (400 B.C.). A Prophet was called by God and the Holy Spirit helped with their jobs. Also the prophets brought future blessing and hope for people who obeyed God. Jeremiah is an Israel Priest during the final decades of the Kingdom of Southern Israel. Jeremiah was going around Israel warning about God's threats. Jeremiah is the messenger of God’s Justice and Grace. God says “I appoint you as a prophet to Israel and the nations, to uproot and tear down, to plant and build up. God says this to Jeremiah because Israel has broken the covenant. They are worshipping other gods. Jeremiah describes this as if a wife were cheating on her husband. Chapter 7 is when people are worshipping and sacrificing to God only on the inside, but on the outside they are betting on orphans and widows. They even go as far as child sacrifice. God is angry and Jeremiah says that God will send an enemy from the north, the Babylonians. The Babylonians will ruin Israel
