Chapter One: Exercises 4 Ethics and the Manager According to IMA’s Statement of Ethical Professional Practice, it would not be ethical for Perlman not to report the inventory as obsolete. By not reporting the inventory as obsolete it is a direct violation of the Statement of Ethical Professional Practice’s principles: Honesty, Fairness, Objectively, and Responsibility. Furthermore, Perlman has also violated the standards that all members must comply with. The standard for competence states; (3) provide decision support information and recommendations that are accurate, clear, concise and timely. Dr. Candle had a great start at Mountain State University, however his performance in the last ten years has become less than desirable. Students of the University have complained about him being an “awful” professor. Additionally, other accounting professors of the University have observed his poor teaching skills. My response to the Oregon Coastal University professor’s inquiry about Dr. Candle’s performance at Mountain State University might be unpleasant, nonetheless it is ethical. My response is honest, accurate and credible. My response to the professor inquiry may prohibit Dr. Candles chances of being accepted at Oregon Coastal University, nevertheless the professor needs to be accurately informed of the performance levels of the person that (s)he is inquiring about. By falsifying information and stating that Dr. Candle is a great professor and the University has not had any problems with him ever, for the purpose of (hopefully) having him relinquish his state of employment there is unethical. If Oregon Coastal University were to take that false information into account and decide to hire him on the accounting department, and Dr. Candle were to go and continue to have poor performance at the other University, it would cause friction between the University’s for being lied to.
