In his book "The Competitive Advantage of Nations", (1990) Michael Porter identified that productivity in a business is the capability of a business organization to utilize its available resources to produce profitable goods and/or services as desired by its customers. Productivity is an essential element to any service organization that aims for success and values the overall efficiency of the business. Higher productivity essentially means greater income and profit, thus creating an effectively operating organization. Productivity in a service organization is important because it develops and increases the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the organization. When a business utilizes its resources and the skills of all employees by transforming their assets into goods and services it creates greater output to provide to customers, therefore the higher products being produced then the more profit will turnover.
