Speed Accuracy Research Before we get into the research we must examine what exactly speed-accuracy tradeoffs and how it applies too sport in general. Fitts law basically predicts the movement time of a skill that requires both speed and accuracy when moving toward a target. So, the bigger the target the movement time to get to said target goes up and so does the accuracy but if the target is smaller the movement time will decrease so you can become more accurate. The article I chose was about how this theory factors into basketball when it comes to shooting a jump shot. When people comes home from a day out before they step into the house they must put their house key in the door. We must sacrifice speed so we can put the key into the door because if we rush we end up missing the key hole four or five times until we slow down and finally get it in.
