Speed Accuracy Research Before we get into the research we must examine what exactly speed-accuracy tradeoffs and how it applies too sport in general. Fitts law basically predicts the movement time of a skill that requires both speed and accuracy when moving toward a target. So, the bigger the target the movement time to get to said target goes up and so does the accuracy but if the target is smaller the movement time will decrease so you can become more accurate. The article I chose was about how this theory factors into basketball when it comes to shooting a jump shot. The researcher had each player shoot 3 jump shots and it was recorded on film which was analyzed by the researches using a combination of mean, standard deviation and the …show more content…
When people comes home from a day out before they step into the house they must put their house key in the door. We must sacrifice speed so we can put the key into the door because if we rush we end up missing the key hole four or five times until we slow down and finally get it in. We open our house doors so much we hardly realize that we go slow when we put the key in so we can be more accurate. Horror movies are the perfect visual representation of how Fitts law applies to opening the door because we have all watched that one person in a horror movie is running to the door when the killer is behind them. Once they get to the door they rush to get the keys out of their pocket and jumble with the lock often even dropping the keys from trying to get inside so fast. So, based on Fitts law if a killer is following you to your house instead of rushing to open the door we should go slow if we want to be accurate enough to open the door. There are many other life meanings to use Fitts law/speed tradeoff theory in our everyday lives we just do not think of it as

As a child, Stephen Curry was raised like any other child, except he grew up playing multiple sports. “In an age of hyper-specialization, Curry has reached the pinnacle of his sport by doing the exact opposite. He played basketball, but he also played some baseball, football, soccer and basically everything else in a sports buffet” (Cohen). Now, Curry is known as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Is this because of his vast background of many sports? In today’s world, children should be introduced to a variety of different sports in order to promote discipline and hard work, prevent injury, and fulfill their college desires.

The Olympics are supposed to be a time of peace and a time where countries could come together and be free from politics. The Olympics are also a time where nations should put away their differences and celebrate the reason why they came to participate in the games, which was to play sports. Throughout history, many of the Olympics have lived up to this expectation. At the same time, there have also been some Olympics that have not lived up to this expectation because they have been experienced boycotts, political protests, and even violence. The politics in the Olympics need to be kept out because it there is no place for it. The 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow is an example of one Olympics that was not free from politics because of the boycott started by the U.S.
Sport specialization, means to practice and train for only one sport. Some people feel it is better to specialize rather than play multiple sports. There are good and bad that come from being a single sport athlete, but there are good and bad for being a multiple sport athlete.

Consequentialism has been around for many years and is the theory that actions are judged according to how they affect oneself or others, rather than on the principles or values upon which the actions are based (Schneider, 2009). This means that a person’s actions can be justified without considering the moral implications. Consequentialism is the moral theory that most people involved in sports tend to use, because they can always justify an action because it was done to try to win a game or get a competitive advantage. This was easier to do in the early years of sports, but in today’s world of the internet and 24 hours sports, it seems almost every move a coach, player, or owner makes is dissected and their morals and ethics are called into question. In the early 1900’s, baseball pitchers routinely doctored baseballs in order to make the ball move and become harder to hit. While this practice was illegal, pitchers knew that umpires rarely ever enforced the rule so they would scuff the ball to get out the hitters. They were able to justify this
A good comparison of this is when one is looking at how long distance runners run compared to short distance runners. Distance runners can maintain their speed longer while short distance runners can achieve their top speed quicker.
Football is one of the three most popular sports in the United States. The modern game of football most likely originated from England (hornetfootball.org). Walter Camp, a football coach for Yale, is known as “the Father of American Football” because he made several changes to the game of football (historyoffootball.net). The first professional football league was established in 1920, and it was made popular because of the invention of the television. Football is a mixture of science and religion which can be proved in the science of football, the religious interpretation of football, and the players’ use of their religion.
One very essential facet in getting a job in the field of athletic training is the types, variety, and a number of certifications you have. It is no longer common for athletic trainers to just get an athletic training bachelor’s degree. With advances in the field currently “nearly 70% of all ATs possess at least a master’s degree” (Mazerolle and Dodge, 2012). Which makes it more essential now than ever that when you enter the field of athletic training, if you want to find success, you should get outside certifications so you can compete for jobs with others in the field. It is also can be advantageous for someone to continue your educations onto the master’s degree because professionals with the degree have a higher retention rate compared
Sports or arts, what is more important to more students? If you ask them, the answers will vary depending on the individual, but it will sway more towards athletics. Fine arts programs are taking up too much of the budget given to high schools by the state. This problem is affecting the majority of public schools in the nation. There are far more benefits to funding the athletic programs than arts programs at high schools. Some of the money funding fine arts programs at high schools should be given to the athletic department because it promotes student involvement and increases school spirit.
Confucius once said, "he who does not do well is less guilty than he who pushes too hard." People found that competitive sports are often physically straining and it is detrimental to proper emotional development. This blows away the misconception that competitive sports create a healthy and engaging atmosphere for kids. This and an overly strong obsession with winning create a toxic mix for the child’s wellbeing. People have begun to realize the world of competitive may be doing more harm than good for their children. Parents have also begun to notice that competitive sports often injure their children severely and also make the child feel left out, which in turn is detrimental to the child 's emotional health. Therefore, competitive sports
Sports can help many at- risk youths. In order to participate in sports you need to be committed and willing to work hard. You also have to learn to respect others and accept that winning isn’t the only measure of success. Losing can build character as well. When youth participate in a sports they enjoy, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that are harmful or dangerous to themselves and others. It is for these reasons schools should strive to maintain athletic programs for their students.
Sports psychology is the study of how psychology influences sports, athletic performance, exercise and physical activity. Some sports psychologists work with professional athletes and coaches to improve performance and increase motivation. Other professionals use exercise and sports to enhance people’s lives and well-being. While finding ways to help athletes is certainly an important part of sports psychology, the application of exercise and physical activity for improving the lives of non-athletes is also a major focus.
The Olympic Games. The biggest international sports competition in which the worlds’ best athletes compete from all around the world to win medals for their countries. The Olympics have been a worldwide tradition since the eighth century BC, but it has hardly benefited us as a species. Every time we have the Games, our resources are abused in order to create the Olympics we desire. Huge amounts of money are used to build venues and make medals, only leading up to the countries who host the Games going into debt afterwards. There are only rare cases in which the countries earn money from hosting the Olympics, but most of the time the debt that they get themselves into take years, or even decades to pay off. You might ask yourself, why do we even host the Olympics, if it has these huge disadvantages? The answer is because we want pride for our countries, no matter how temporary it is. Knowing this, we can safely say, that the Olympic Games do not help us grow as a species.
