Pride and Prejudice, the novel, written in 1813, presents two major themes of “first impressions” and “marriage”. The movie, Pride and Prejudice in 2005, also displays the two major themes of “first impressions” and “marriage”. Though, both pieces of work represent “first impressions” and “marriage”, there are some differences between both pieces of work. Both, Pride and Prejudice, the novel and Pride and Prejudice, the movie have similarities and differences between them. One of the major differences between Pride and Prejudice, the novel and Pride and Prejudice, the movie is the fact that Pride and Prejudice, the novel has narration, whereas Pride and Prejudice, the movie does not. This quote plays a part in quotes that incorporate the theme. Mr. Darcy, the handsome, wealthy, fin, young man is very high in society and immediately rejects Elizabeth Bennet. Elizabeth Bennet is not very high in society and Mr. Darcy is aware of that as he creates his first impression of her. Both “first impressions” and ‘marriage” interact with each other. Also, there are many other aspects that relate to the two major themes including, denial, role in society, and newly formed impressions. There are many differences and similarities between the works such as, narration and emphasis on specific aspects related to themes, but through these differences and similarities the two major themes always stay present to the reader and watcher. For example, Elizabeth Bennet show denial in both works, but her denial is seen more in the movie, than in the novel. Mr. Darcy’s timeline of feelings is expanded more in the novel, than in the movie. Elizabeth Bennet’s interactions with Lady Catherine de Bourgh are very different.
