From years 2008 to 2016, the presidential debates have tremendously changed from formal, disciplined and professional discussions to off-topic, bad mouthing arguments. Where once we had skillful and practiced participants, we now have amateur and incompetent rivals as candidates for president. Debates once began as a way to foresee what our future president can do for our country, to allow the candidates to propose to the people ways that will fix issues, and to help us envision them as our leader. In our modern world now debates are being used in the wrong way. The opponents are insulting, disrespecting, and interrupting each other. Personal things are being exposed and brought into the presidential campaigns, and America is the least of their …show more content…
Obama’s stance on foreign policy is to take charge on to a country if there’s a chance. He believes in communication and in speaking to the other countries like Russia about what’s right and what is not. He proposed to meet with Iran and other hostile nations. For most of Obama’s responses to the questions asked during the debate have been unclear. He does a great job showing what he thinks should be fixed in America, but is vague on what he will do to make a change. McClain on the other hand wants to bring pain to the Iranians to change their behavior towards the outside world. As for the first 2016 debate, Achieving Prosperity, America's direction, and securing America were the three main topics, the economy being the dominant issue. Trump's stance on the economy wasn't very clear as he repeatedly said, jobs are leaving, jobs are being stolen, and we need to stop our jobs from leaving. He never did explain how he was going to keep that from happening as he just danced around the question and was very repetitive with his words. He did mention that if companies leave, they won’t be allowed to sell their products untaxed in America. He proposed to lower taxes in order for more jobs to return
...ous statements it can be inferred that in some ways the Obama administration was like the Bush Administration in terms of foreign national policies. Obama also made poor choices by expanding on Bush policies that were already a dangerous jaunt from constitutional practices. Another thing Obama did was increase our expenditures by the billions, which can cause harm in his domestic reform agendas, and might lead to divisive and expensive foreign wars.
Interesting perspective, meaning that the policies covered lowering income and capital gains taxes, encouraging businesses to do business in the United States hoping to boost spending and in turn the economy. Mr. Cornman remembers more negatives, “Unemployment and the first recession, he raised taxes and eliminated deductions but continued to lower taxes for the wealthy.” He also recollects that President Reagan fired thousands of air traffic controllers for going on strike and that Reagan implied that unions were no longer needed this harming the economy even more. Of all of the rhetoric presented in his address, it seems that Mr. Obama’s most effective strategy
Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th president of the United States, is not one of the most well-known presidents to have ever served in office though he did do some good things during his presidency. The vice president’s journey to the presidency began after the assassination of the beloved president, John F. Kennedy. Before serving as president, he was the youngest Senator to ever serve as a majority leader and he sat in the House of Representatives. Although Johnson served two terms as president, he only ran in one election because of the death of Kennedy. However, the one election he ran in, he won in by a landslide (Ridings & Melver 231). Lyndon B Johnson, the Democratic president, who served from 1963-1969, might have been infamous for the decisions he made during the Vietnam War, but his Great Society and Civil Rights Act helped shape the nation in a good way.
From his extremely vivid imagery at the beginning to his conclusion that America plans to seek a solution with Russia and other nations, the president’s flow from using pathos to logos to ethos made his speech very effective and compelling. His argument was backed up and supported all through out his speech, which helped his audience believe that what he was saying is true and important. However, his speech would have been nothing without the implication and opinion that America is the strongest nation in the world. Although this point is debatable, it is our duty to help other nations. We definitely do an excellent job at helping other nations and always having their best interests at heart. I believe this was the main goal for Obama’s speech; a plan to protect the United States. The use of logos, ethos and pathos just helped his speech to be more persuasive and
Reagan created a cabinet of “the best and the brightest” in order to shrink the government and minimize federal spending. He believed that the government didn’t fix problems but rather was the problem. He moved away from “welfare state” and government “entitlement” programs and proposed budget cuts totalling in about 35 billion, which passed.
It was a brief speech that captivated a lot of matters that concern the American citizens exclusively and the world inclusively. He divided his speech into different sectors which are citizens’ sacrifice, the idea of service, adopting changes, promise of wealth, government harmony and dignity. The language used in the speech was flawless and applicable to the audience, who was the public, since he was using every day vocabulary. Therefore, the speech has a strong structure that can be easily understood by the majority of people. The audience typically will and was the American citizens, but since the United States has many international relationships, President Obama was trying to reach beyond the nationwide concerns and meet a mutual background....
Between the period of 1820-1861 there was a number of political compromises done in order reduce the sectional tension between the North and the South. While each of the compromises created helped the issue that the country was facing at that time, they did not help overall. The compromises were only a temporary fix for the country’s problem of sectionalism. Therefore while political compromises were effective in reducing the tension between the North and the South it did not help in preventing the civil war.
The fear he brings on by talking about Ebola spreading, the grief brought on by talking of the many murders and awful acts by ISIL terrorists, to the hope he projects be calling for the nations to come together to drive his argument. While some arguments use emotion to deceive readers and keep them from paying attention to the argument, but Obama’s speech does just the opposite. The emotions that are felt bring you closer to his argument and facilitate understanding of what he is saying. Since unfortunately not a great deal of people pay attention to politics, they are not knowledgeable on the issues that have taken place. With the use of emotion, Obama is able to help those understand without them having to know the situation entirely. For example, regarding the ISIL terrorists, Obama states the, “mother, sisters, and daughters have been subjected to rape as a weapon of war. Innocent children have been gunned down.” Now while one may not know the ins and out of all the acts of ISIL, this makes people understand that they are bad and need to be
“Great leaders are almost always great simplifiers, who can cut through argument, debate and doubt, to offer a solution everybody can understand.” This reflective quote by Colin Powell exemplifies the true values that a person in command should have. After watching the first presidential debate and the third presidential debate, it was evident that there were some flaws in the answering of some questions that were asked by both of the candidates. From both debates, I conclude that Hillary Clinton as doing the most thorough job of answering the questions. I feel that this is true because of her giving more straight forward answers, her better temperament, and the details she included in her answers.
The deal with Iran will lead to nuclear problems. All they have to do is sit back 10 years and they don 't have to do much. And they 're going to end up getting nuclear.¨ both of the candidates have ups and downs in the debate. We can compare and contrast both of the candidates from the words they express, since being a president words
Throughout history, women have fought a long, hard battle to have equal rights. Men, and even some women, all over the world believe that women do not share the same value and importance to society as men do. On September 5, 1995, Hillary Clinton spoke at the 4th World Conference on Women on behalf of women all over the world. Clinton raised awareness on how women 's rights are being violated and why it is important to recognize women 's rights as equal to everyone else’s rights. Even today, in 2016, the words Clinton in 1995 spoke still impact the world. Hillary Clinton, a powerful, credible women made the world feel emotional by explaining the mental, and physical hardships that many women face everyday, and why addressing this problem
Conservatism is an ideology consisted of ideas and beliefs that value social order and tradition. The question of whether or not conservatism is a coherent ideology is a highly debated topic. Conservatism can be seen as a disbelief to its critiques against other political ideologies such as liberalism. (Ruth, 2017) However, I believe the ideas of conservatism do make up a coherent ideology. Throughout this essay I will explain the reasons why I believe the ideas of conservatism make a legitimate ideology. The Oxford Dictionary defines an ideology as “a system of ideas and ideals, especially one which forms the basis of economic or political theory and policy.” Meaning that in order for a viewpoint to be deemed an ideology it must contain a
Although the presidency is a great opportunity to influence European policies, it is also a big challenge, and during the second Presidency in 2006 Finland concentrated on “tackling Europe’s current challenges such as security, globalisation, demographic change and maintaining economic welfare” (Committee of the Regions 2006, 4). The Finnish government knew that the Presidency would be an opportunity for them to take the European agenda forward as smoothly and efficiently as possible in order to deliver visible results and to be able to use the state as a self-interested mediator strategy successfully. At the start of the 2006 Presidency, Finnish Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen commented on the Finnish Presidency of the European Union that alongside the other key aspects, “the environment agenda will also be demanding during our Presidency.
Barack Obama This is a biography with Barack Obama the former president of the United States. People choose to believe that different things about Obama but there are the things that I believe about Obama. Barack Obama is inspirational, hardworking, and determined because of his childhood, his education and his presidency. He is hard-working because of his childhood “he grew up on the Southside of Chicago,Illinois and that is where he met his wife Michelle”
