For many of us when we get sick or have a pre-existing condition and need medications we have our doctors send the prescriptions to our pharmacy of choice or have a paper copy we can take ourselves. When getting to the pharmacy you always have one questions for the person behind the counter and that is “are my prescriptions ready yet?” You left your doctor’s appointment fifteen minutes ago why wouldn’t it be ready yet. What we don’t know is that there is a process to getting prescriptions ready for us, the one going through the process for up to hundreds of people a day is my girlfriend Amanda Duran.

She goes on to explain that when she is at the window for every prescription that is brought to the pharmacy regardless of if you have been there last year or last week there is information that always needs to be verified before a prescription can be filled. That information, which is name, date of birth, address, phone number, allergies to medications and chronic conditions (i.e asthma, diabetes, high blood pressure), this information ensures that the right medication get filled for the right patient. There are people out there with the same or similar enough names with the same birthday who live on the same road. By double checking all of these she able to make sure that someone grandpa doesn’t accidently get a dose of blood thinner when he shouldn’t be on it. By her taking down the other information with her pen helps to ensure that someone who is allergic to a specific antibiotic doesn’t receive further doses that might cause anaphylactic shock. These things have happened in the past have severely hurt people, so thins information when she writes it down helps make sure that no one is potentially
