Outline Intro
Determining the gestational age of a fetus is very important for the well being of the fetus throughout the pregnancy. Women are encouraged to get prenatl care. With a pregnancy wheel, clinicans use the tool to determine the woman’s due date, fetus’s approximate weight, appropriate testing, and more.
What is a pregnancy wheel? According to Naegele’s rule, a typical pregnancy is 280 days long, or 40 weeks, therefore, a device was needed to help clinicians know what was happening to the pregnany woman and developing fetus week to week. The pregnancy wheel is a device that has helped the perinatal healthcare provider in a variety of ways. The wheel has exact dates that are important to the development of the fetus, and also provides

Naegele 's rule is a way to calculate a due date for a pregnancy. Without the pregnancy wheel, the clinical is expected to estimates the expected date of delivery (EDD) by adding one year, subtracting three months, and adding seven days to the first day of a woman 's last menstrual period (LMP). The result is approximately 280 days (40 weeks) from the start of the last menstrual period. Another method is by adding 9 months and 7 days to the first day of the last menstrual period.
How accurate is it?
Teh average length of menstrual cycle for a woman is 28 days. Though, 99.5% of all women have a period within 24-38 days. This means, if a woman is not regular with her cycle, her due date may be incorrect, bt with prenatal testing (i.e. ultrasounds), and clinical measuring of the woman’s uterus, due dates can be close to accurate.
How does it work?
The device is a small plastic wheel with a calendar among the outer circular area. Inside the big circular device is a smaller circle to align the date with the last menstrual period and date of delivery for a uaul 40 week pregancy. Markers placed seven “days” apart to display and label the number of weeks between the last menstrual period and the delivery date. Ideally, this is 40 weeks. The little marks between the weeks indicate days, therefore, if the marker showed 30 weeks and two little “days” marked, the pregnancy would be 30 2/7 days

Mobile – Since the invention of smartphones, the invention of applications to add to your phone has helped clinicians too. As a nurse, when a patient comes to my floor and state they may be in labor, I pull out my mobile device and all I have to do is add in their due date and it will calculate everything for me, from the date of their last period, to how big the fetus is, and gestational age at that time. Examples of these types of appilications are Perfect OB Wheel, Gest Age, and The OB Wheel Pro http://appcrawlr.com/ios-apps/best-apps-gestational-age Computer websites – Website are available for the patient and clinicians to see what may be developing on the fetus as well as due date as well. Example of computer sites http://www.prokerala.com/health/pregnancy/pregnancy-wheel/ http://www.babymed.com/pregnancy-wheel handheld - The typical embodiment of this device is a circular piece of paper, plastic, or metal between 4 inches and 10 inches in diameter. This was the root of gestational calculations, until technology came along. These wheels are always available on labor and delivery units and OBGYN offices for quick computing when

The author of this book is 21 year old Gaby Rodriguez. She came up with the idea for this project because she was told repeatedly by her brothers and sisters that she would end up getting pregnant as a teen just like all of them. I believe that the purpose of this project and subsequently the book, was to show that you do not have to live your life on the basis of stereotypes. It does not and should not matter what anyone says about you, you are the master of your life and nothing anyone says about you should change what you believe about yourself, or what you want to do with your life. I love this book, and the Lifetime movie was great too. I have known too many young girls who have gotten pregnant, and it does not mean that their life is over. If they believe in themselves and have the help and support of loved ones, there is no reason why they cannot finish school and get a college degree.

The history in a family can influence many generations. Certain families have stereotypes about them based on family history. This is a real world situation; the movie The Pregnancy Project, stereotypes about teen pregnancy where shown, and how they affect people. In the Pregnancy Project, the use of Gabi’s background influenced people’s reactions because her family has a history of teen pregnancy.
There is also a high-resolution ultrasound scanning that can detect chromosomal and physical abnormalities in the first trimester as opposed to the second trimester. A technology such as this can create many ethical problems. Mcfadyen describes the biggest problem as being informed consent. “They may believe that it will provide information only about gestational age and be unaware of the range of abnormalities that can be detected. Recent research suggests that many women are not told beforehand of the first scan’s potential to detect fetal anomalies.”
Teen pregnancy is one of the many recurring themes that continue to be a problem in the African American community. This project will document the reasons why African Americans become teen parents, I will get to the root of why African Americans are teen parents. This is a problem in the African American community because we are perceived to be a race that has a variety of negative stereotypes behind it. These stereotypes sometimes stem from things that actually happen in the community such as teen pregnancy, as well as people’s perception of African Americans. Society is affected by teen pregnancy in the black community by there not being more African Americans furthering their education through college and in some cases through high school due to responsibilities that comes with raising a child, as well as the children of teen parents having behavioral issues and social disabilities. Children of teen parents are likely to have children as teens (Healthy Teen Network, 2006). According to the National Conference of State Legislatures (2014) only 40 percent of teen mothers finish high school, and fewer than 2 percent actually finish college by age 30.
During the first trimester most women will find out they are expecting. They may miss thier period and take a test. If the women is pregant she might experience morning sickness or even all day sickness. Morning sickness could last all the way up until the end of the first trimester or even through the whole pregnancy. Some signs a women might experience during the first trimester are bleeding, breast tenderness, constipation, discharge, fatigue, food cravings, frequent urination, heartburn, moodswings, morning sickness, and weight gain. about 25 percent of pregnant women will experience some bleeding during the first trimester. Light spotting may signify that the embroyo is being implanted. Breast tenderness is one of the very early signs of pregnancy. Breast tenderness is caused by hormonal changes within the womens ' body. A women might need to buy a bra in a size or two bigger than her normal size. Constipation during pregnancy is caused by muscle contractions. The contractions that move the food through her body will slow down do to the high levels of progesterone. Women will experience leukorrhea which is discharge women experience early in pregnacy. Since the womens body is working extra

From the moment of conception the baby begins to develop for the remaining nine months. A full term pregnancy can take 38 weeks-40 weeks or nine months based on either date of conception or the last day of the woman’s menstrual cycles. If mom does not know the date of conception, than doctors will add 40 weeks to the last day of her last menstruation and estimate the baby’s due date accordingly.

This process is called conception, the female is now officially two weeks pregnant and the fertilized egg is called a zygote. Let’s move on to pregnancy. Pregnancy is a state in which a woman carries a fertilized egg inside her body, it usually lasts up to 40 weeks, and it is divided into three trimesters, each lasting three months. The first month. The embryo is about a third of an inch long. The head, trunk, and the beginnings of the arms and legs have started to develop. By this month, the embryo starts to receive nutrients and releases waste through the umbilical cord and placenta. The heart also starts to beat. The second month. The heart is now pumping and the nervous system, including the brain and the spinal cord begins to develop. The fetus is 1 in 2.5cm now and has developed cartilage skeleton. The arms, legs, facial features and other major organs begin to appear. The third month. The fetus has grown up to 4 in 10cm and weighs a little more than an ounce. The major blood vessels are almost completed and the face starts to show up more. The kidneys and the 4 chambers of the heart are now complete. The fourth month. The fetus is now 4 oz of 112g and can kick and swallow. The
An obstetrician is one thing, and a gynecologist is another. The job is combined together, but the two branches can be worked separately. An obstetrician is a physician who focuses and is trained in the management of pregnancy, labor, and pueperium (the period following childbirth). A physician who has specialized and trained in the health of the female reproductive system is a gynecologist. The reason the jobs are combined is because they’re both all about women. Obstetricians and Gynecologists are physicians who provide general medical care to women. They equip medical care associated with pregnancy or childbirth, and they diagnose, treat, and help prevent diseases, especially those affecting the female
