Prefrontal Cortex In Young Adults

443 Words1 Page

In the United States of America the age where you're considered an adult is 18. One problem with being an “adult” at 18 is because your brain is not developed, especially the more important parts of your brain when it comes to “being an adult” which is your prefrontal cortex. The prefrontal cortex is the part of your brain that influences your capability to make decisions as well as impulse control. Also the prefrontal cortex (PFC) contributes to being an adult because it when fully developed completes major functions, developed in the mid 20’s, and the synapses become more efficient. The prefrontal cortex is matured when a person is in their mid twenties(). People have said they feel less affected by peer pressure compaired to beintg a teenages around the age of 18.()
The prefrontal cortex is the key area to making judgements, assess the riskiness of situations, and the ability to focus. For example when your PFC developed so does the brain's ability to pay thorough attention to one thing (). This comes in handy when driving because a driver will better be able to focus on the road which makes driver safer for them as well as others on the road. Another example of the prefrontal cortex being a vital part of …show more content…

Synapses are what connects parts of the brain and makes the different parts compatible with each other. The synapses being developed is important when being considered because during a person’s teenage years the brain almost goes into overdrive and creates a lot of synapses (). Since there is so many synapses sending different signals to the brain you do not get a strong signal, whereas when the synapses and the prefrontal cortex becomes developed many synapses die making their connects to the brain more efficient and effective(). Synapses’ development are important to the prefrontal cortex’s development as well as becoming an
