1. Give evidence for the preexistence of the pre-incarnate Jesus Christ.
Pre-incarnate means existed before. The pre-incarnate Jesus Christ existed before He took on the human form. He was present before and during the time of Creation. John 1:3, Hebrews 1:2, and Colossians 1:16 are evident passages of this. Christ is also equal to God. Philippians 2:6, John 10:30, and John 17:5 attest to this relationship Jesus and God have. Finally John, who was born before Jesus, confirms that Jesus existed before he did. John says this in John 1:15 and 1:30.
2. What does the incarnation of Christ mean?
Incarnation means “in flesh”. So the incarnation of Christ means that Christ took the form of human flesh and walked the earth. He experienced the same

emotional feelings and physical abilities that any other human has; however He is sinless. He was and is fully man and fully God. Christ is the physical manifestation of God. 3.
What evidence is there for the Virgin birth of Christ?
The bible contains multiple evident passages that prove the Virgin birth of Christ. The incarnation of Christ occurred through the Virgin birth (Ryrie, 1999, p. 278). In Luke 1:35, Mary is told by the angel, Gabriel, she does not need a husband but that the Spirit will go upon her and overshadow her. This passage shows that Mary was a virgin who held a baby inside of her that came from the Holy Spirit. Additionally, Matthew 1:16 explains that Jesus came from Mary, not from Joseph and

Mary. 4. What role do the genealogies play in showing Jesus’ right to the throne of David? What differences are noted between Matthew and Luke’s genealogies? The genealogies of Mary and Joseph are reflected in the books of Luke and Matthew, respectively. Luke traces the lineage back to Adam; whereas Matthew to Abraham. A Virgin birth was necessary because neither Mary’s or Joseph’s genealogies would link Jesus to the throne of David on their own. Only God could orchestrate Christ’s genealogy to fit perfectly in order for His right to the throne of David. The fall of man could not and did not negatively impact God’s perfect plan! 5. What is the purpose of the incarnation of Christ? In what specific ways have they/do they affect you? The purpose of the incarnation of Christ is so that we ultimately are able to have a relationship with Christ, and to spend eternity in His presence!
Through the incarnation of Christ, God is revealed to us in a physical way to provide us with an example on how to lead godly lives. He also demonstrated His sacrificial love for us when was sacrificed for our sins. These are the specific ways that affect me because I am able to understand what true love looks like. Christ showed that to His people when He made the ultimate sacrifice. I am humbled by this unexplainable and sacrificial love that the Lord has for me. When Christ walked on the earth He provided us with an example of what righteous living looks like. This helps me so that I can know what is righteous and glorifying to
God. 6. Give several evidences for the Deity and Humanity of Jesus. There are many evidences for the Deity and Humanity of Jesus. The Deity of Christ is shown through the fact that He is perfect and equal to God. He has to attributes only God has, such as omniscience (passages proving this are found in Matthew 16:21, Luke 6:8, Luke 11:17, and John 4:29) and omnipotence (Christ demonstrates this in Matthew 28:18, Mark 5:11-15, and John 11:38-44) (Ryrie, 1999, p. 285). Additionally, the Diety of Jesus is evident in His abilities to perform works that only God can do, such as, forgiveness (found in Mark 2:1-12) and resurrection (John 11:43) (Ryrie, 1999, p. 285). The Humanity of Jesus is evident in the fact that He had a human body, that He had a human name, and that He had human characteristics. 7. Briefly interact with each of the six (6) views of the incarnation. The six views of the incarnation are Docetism, Ebionism, Arianism, Apollinarianism, Nestorianism, and Eutychianism. Docetism, the false teaching, discusses that Christ was only a man. The heresy, Ebionism, denies the deity of Christ, and therefore He was just the son of Joseph and Mary. Next Arianism denies that Jesus is eternal and like God. Apollinarianism explains that the incarnate Christ possessed only the Holy Spirit, not a human spirit. This is false because Christ was fully man and fully God. Nestorianism seeks to explain that Christ is two, not three, persons. Lastly Eutychianism explains that Christ was not fully God or fully human, but a single mixture (Ryrie, 1999, p. 290-291).
After God makes the earth he appears as spirit in it and hovers around the waters, Genesis 1 vs 2 states that, “the earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” One example of the presence of the triune God can be found right at the beginning of Jesus' public activity, when, at His baptism, the Father and the Holy Spirit attest to the sending of the incarnate Son of God. After he is baptized, the spirit of God appears in spirit and mentions in front of John the Baptist and the people that were there that Jesus is the son. Mathew 3vs 16 and 17 supports that, “As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” As shown here, we are shown that the Son of God, holy spirit and God works in unity with the to protect and love human beings. The son of God Jesus is born through the engaging of the holy spirit and the human being. The book of Mathew quotes in chapter 1 vs 18, “this is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy
God uses Jesus to help the population in all different ways. Jesus helps the blind see, he clothes the poor, and overall, can cure anyone who is worthy. God shows his presence through Jesus so the people of earth have someone to follow. Even today we see God work his wonders even without the presence of Jesus. God shows miracles which no one would believe if they were not reality. God’s presence in the world is mediated through nature and reality as seen in the readings of The Gospel of Matthew and The Book of Exodus.
Jesus Christ became human and walked with men and women. The Creator of heaven and earth became a creature and entered the creation that he made into existence. God made himself known so humanity could have the most basic understanding of who he was and Christ there would be no Christianity. Jesus taught mankind a high view of Scripture and inspired his followers and others to uphold it as God’s Word. (A Starting Point for Wisdom by Jason Hiles and Anna Faith
The Meaning of Jesus begins with Borg speaking about how we know about Jesus. Borg explains that the gospels have two natures. First, they are a developing tradition and second, the gospels are a mixture of history “remembered” and history “metaphorized”. Borg believes that some of the material is from Jesus and some is from the Christian community. The material from the Christian community should be considered metaphors, so this material is history metaphorized. Borg also states that there are two ways to refer to Jesus: pre and post-Easter Jesus; human and divine. The importance of pre-Easter Jesus is that, according
means that Jesus died for a reason and that was to free us from sin.
We have seen his glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”1 John is describing the Son of God. The Son of God who will carry out the word in the proper context. He will show the world how living in the light will lead to a fulfilled life. Jesus showed the people of the time, how interacting and loving creation brings hope to the darkness, moving out of sin and impurity and into the beauty of the light of God. God kept his covenant with Noah, and instead of wiping out the earth filled with darkness, he sent Jesus to purify the sins of the earth. Jesus would be able to seek out the darkness and being a shining light in those times. John Calvin said in his commentary, “Yet the Son of God stooped so low as to take to Himself that flesh addicted to so many wretchednesses.”4 God made it a priority to enter into the darkness, and move mankind into the light. Through moving into the light, people can live a fulfilled life in the Kingdom of
In his book Death in the Afternoon, Ernest Hemingway says that, “When writing a novel a writer should create living people; people not characters. A character is a caricature” (153). This statement is only partially correct. The writer of a novel should certainly have the ultimate goal of creating living persons as opposed to two-dimensional characters. However, Hemingway mistakenly sets up an equivalence of character and caricature in an attempt to highlight the difference between a character and a living person. It does not follow necessarily that being a caricature negates the possibility of also being a living person. To clarify this idea, more meaningful conceptions of the terms living person, character, and caricature must be established.
My family taught me about Jesus at a young age, so I always knew I wanted to have a close relationship with him. Knowing that God is going to have my back no matter what was the best feeling to me. He will never leave a person or turn his back on them. The fact that the Bible guides people is one of the amazing things to me because one scripture can change a person whole life. My discourse community teaches a person about faith, love, and everything a person will ever need in life. Jesus encourages people, and supports people when they fail. Being a Christian motivates me and gives me a meaning of life. Being saved is easy, but the hard part is following his guidelines. He knows people are going to make a lot of mistakes in life, but the fact that he doesn’t judge them is amazing. Accepting Christ means a person has escaped that judgment and therefore they will have external life. Being a part of this discourse community has brought me to a new place in life, and for that I am
He demonstrated His love even when we did not love Him, by first loving us. The LORD demonstrated His love when Jesus came into the world to seek and save the lost. He paid the definitive sacrifice for those He loved. Equally, we are to love sacrificially. It transcends family and encompasses the beloved community.
The birth narrative of Matthew begins with a long genealogy of Jesus, which basically shows how Jesus is son of Abraham who is the father of the nation of Israel, and David the King of the Jews. This may not seem important but this genealogy shows how Jesus is connected to the Davidic line. Then we have Mary, who just found out she was pregnant and Joseph decides it is best to divorce her because he wanted to break his union with someone who is pregnant, by someone else. But behold the angel comes down and reassures Joseph that Mary was pregnant by the Holy Spirit and that he should take her back into his house. The angel also said to name the child Emmanuel. When Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and King Herod heard of this new newborn king of the Jews and he ordered that all boys under the age of 2 be killed. The magi gave Jesus the gifts and left. In a dream, the angel of the lord told Joseph to take the child and go to Egypt and hide, Herod then died, and Jesus was safe.
Throughout human history power imbalances have been prevalent in almost every civilization. One method of controlling people, in addition to power power, is to control how much knowledge gets out to the masses. This paper examines how iconoclasm is used in the Middle East as a method of controlling popular opinions and thoughts on race, sex and many other important details of everyday life. Iconoclasm is the systemic destruction of religious or cultural pieces of artwork for political or religious reasons. The destruction of artifacts can rewrite cultural history and change opinions on how the history of a nation is perceived. This also results in extensive loss of cultural history which can never be recovered. The Middle East is of particular interest in this research paper as it has been in the news recently for such acts. Most Middle Eastern countries have Islam listed as their official religion. In Islam it is forbidden to show the face of Allah, the God of Islam, in any form of artwork. It is also seen as taboo to have any living creatures such as humans or animals depicted in a mosque, the Islamic place of worship. As such, many buildings which have been converted into mosques have been defaced to suit the proper Islamic code. One such incident of this happening is the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. Once a Roman Catholic church, it was converted into a mosque after the conquer of the Byzantine Empire by the Ottoman Turks and all mosaics depicting Jesus, His mother and saints were removed. Another popular incident attributed to iconoclasm within Middle Eastern countries include the missing nose of the Sphinx in Egypt(World Heritage Site). One confirmed incident of iconoclasm in within the past few decades is of the defacing and d...
...ons. Jesus is the most qualified of the three Divine persons because Jesus wants to be on with us and with the world. Everyone in the world was born by a woman and men work with hard labor, this is the human consequence for not following the law of God. Jesus is the light of the world, he came to save is from all sin by being condemned to death. I also believe that the Incarnation matters because if the Incarnation did not happen, the world may be different.
The Virgin birth of Christ is an actual Historical fact. God came (in the sinless form of Jesus) into the earth "HE" created. No other event in the past has had so much impact out side of Calvary where Christ paid the price for our transgressions. Seven hundred years earlier, this was prophesied by the prophet Isaiah and it came about just as predicated in (Matthew 1:22, 23)
... lives not just part but over our whole life. Luke 6:46 tells us that we will only know what Christ is like if we put our complete life in His authority.
My past year at Transfiguration was filled with wonderful memories, but one of my most unforgettable moments was when I had to go diving in the trash cans (pictured below) on two separate occasions. I would say that this experience was quite traumatizing for a slight germaphobe like me, but it was also fascinating. The first time I had the joy to dig through these trash cans was during the Modern Shakespeare Productions of Hamlet. It was time to perform when my group couldn’t find the backdrops that we had painted. It was too late to paint new ones, so our only option was to search the garbage bins for the backdrops, assuming that someone accidentally threw them out. Once we got outside, there was about 15 recycling bins and a giant dumpster
