Powerlifting Vs. Crossfit
Crossfit and Powerlifting are two intense forms of exercise practiced by those looking to stay in shape, but strongly differ from one another in many ways. Both styles of exercise are very strenuous and require dedication and commitment. The primary objective while performing either of these two forms of exercise is to improve one’s physical endurance over an undefined period of time. Although both sides share a common interest, their goals, equipment use, as well as diet and training regimens are portrayed very differently. Firstly, powerlifting consists of exercises that target three primary muscle groups, the chest, back, and leg region. On the other hand is crossfit, which consists of a variety of workouts that exercise one or more muscle groups at a time. Though powerlifting targets fewer muscle groups than crossfit does, the goal for powerlifters is to lift as much weight humanly possible, and while powerlifters are generally stronger, the goals for crossfit enthusiast are to

Because powerlifters work to gain muscle and strength, their bodies demand a high calorie intake consisting of mainly of proteins and grains. While on the other hand, crossfit enthusiast may only require a fraction of the calories demanded by a powerlifter’s diet, but because crossfit is designed to help lose body fat, the diet recommended for this program is one that consists of fruits/veggies and little fiber as well as proteins. The key to gaining muscle for powerlifting is not only to train with heavy weight, but also to break down a whole day’s consumption into five 5-7 smaller meals, this allows muscles to stay energized throughout the day. Crossfit athletes do not usually seek to primarily build mass; therefore, they can stick to the basic 3 square meals a day or break their meals down if they choose
There are different types of muscle because each sport has various needs. “Power endurance is typically characterized by intense, repeated efforts for a relatively short period of time (less than 30 seconds)”(1). Sports such as sprinters, wrestlers, fencers and tennis players need to produce powerful movements and repeat them with several times with little to no rest. This training involves lifting about 15-30 reputations of moderate loads, about 50%-70% 1RM per lift.

When completing an exercise a person is expecting results that day, during or post workout. Training is a long-term process that creates noticeable and physical results over a span of weeks, even months and years. Training involves planning with preparation for the training duration and progress towards a goal. The desire to win and be better than the competition is essentially important for professional and collegiate athletes. These athletes take training and preparation for a competition to a new level of determination and commitment. For the last two years, I have been working with the University of Oklahoma’s softball team as their student athletic trainer. I attend every practice, workout, and all of their games. As the student athletic trainer, I help with assessing their injuries, with treatment and rehabilitation of their injuries as well as injury prevention. I have watched these women go through some strenuous workouts and have seen their improvements. Some of the girls have asked about taking CrossFit classes or other workout programs during winter and summer breaks. Our strength coach advised against taking the CrossFit classes that he has not specifically approved. He
The thing that brings me the greatest joy is physical activity. I love outdoor sports and working out in the gym. During my school years I actively took part in football and basketball competitions, and then with the growing awareness about fitness and general health turned towards the gym. The focus of this paper is mechanically and automatically break down the deadlift. It focuses on the four phases of the deadlift (The lift off, pull through, the lockout, and the lowering phase) as well as the muscles involved in lifting and lowering the load. The sole purpose of the deadlift is for health and fitness. It is a core lift that works nearly every muscle in the body. Muscles from the lower and upper extremities will go through a period of flexion and extension when moving through the phases. The deadlift should be performed safely, and with proper form to avoid injury. This paper shows and demonstrates the proper form of the deadlift.
