In Act II, scene i, line 10-35 in Julius Caesar shows what can happen to someone if they get to much power. Brutus shares his thoughts in the soliloquy about what the people should do so that Caesar doesn't have to much power. The scene takes place after Caesar killed Pompey and all of the people see Caesar as a king. Brutus knows something has to be done before Caesar becomes king. Brutus uses symbols and similes to show the theme of when someone has power they may take advantage of it. Brutus uses symbols to show how when Caesar gets power he will abuse. In Act II, scene i, Brutus stated, “It is the bright day that brings forth the adder; And the craves wary walking.” The adder is symbol of a snake so Brutus is showing that Caesar is like a snake. The snake is showing that when Caesar gets power he will take advantage of it. He will take over and tell the people what to do. Snake are able to kill people as seen Caesar will also kill people if they don’t do what he wants. Just like in Adam and Evil the snake tempted them into eating off of the tree that nobody was supposed to. Brutus stated, “That lowliness is young ambition’s ladder, Whereto the climber-upward turns his face; But when he once attains the upmost round. He then unto the ladder turns his back.” The ladder shows that Caesar will be on the top of everyone and want to have control of everything and everybody. He will not care about the people of Rome and will turn his back to them all. This shows that the only one that Caesar cares about his himself and doesn’t care about what the people have to say or what they want. He will look down on the people since he is will be the head of everything. This shows that Caesar will take advantage of the power that he will have and do things that will better him not the people of
