What is poverty? The American Oxford Dictionary states "Poverty is a state of being extremely poor. It is the state of being inferior in quality or insufficient in amount." There are seven billion people in this world. Roughly a billion people in the world live on a dollar and twenty-five cents a day or less. There are programs that support their needs in terms of food, and programs that support children’s education and development in the workplace. I certainly think that the Brazilian government has to do a better job in setting their priorities, and deciding where the funds should go to. Even though there are many programs that could help these people living in poverty, it is the government’s job to make sure to eradicate hunger, extreme poverty, and social exclusion.
