A postcard or post card is a rectangular piece of thick paper or thin cardboard used for writing, then mailed without an envelope. There are special occasions, such as wood postcards, made of very thin wood, and copper postcards sold in the Copper Country, Michigan and coconut "postcards" from Hawaii.
Cards with notes have been made and sent by people since the creation of the postal services. The earliest known picture postcard was a hand-painted design on a card, and sent in London to the writer Theodore Hook in 1840 with a black penny stamp on the front. In some places, it is possible to send postacards for a lower fee than for a letter. Stamp collectors distinguish between postcards (these require a stamp) and postal cards (which have the postage already printed on them). While a postcard is usually printed by a private company, individual or organization, a postal card is purchased from the post office.
In the United States, a picture or blank card stock that held a message and sent through the mail at letter rate first began when a card postmarked in December 1848 contained pr...

Moving paper from the printer to the envelope does nothing to add value to business. It costs both time and money. Postage, printing and personnel costs keep increasing and adding to bottom line. Twenty years ago, there was the promise of “ The Paperless Office" and it is a promise that will probably never come to fruition. Since the mid-1980’s, paper clutter has expanded exponentially on the average desk. (http://www.FutureTechConsulting.com/) Not on original Reference Pg.
"This particular letter, bearing a Pennsylvania postmark, was written in a rambling, scrawly hand in several different types and colors of pencil and pen, and hi a very odd style… The letter was signed 'Carlos M. Allende" (The Philadelphia Experiment by William Moore and Charles Berlitz page 18).

The speed in which the mail is transported is an important factor in sending mail by either E-mail or the postal system. E-mail easily has the leading edge in this field. With a click of a button, a message can be sent and received in a few seconds to several minutes. Whether you are sending E-mail to someone next door or across the world, the time it takes to send the message is usually the same. Data files can be easily sent to someone over E-mail; unfortunately, the larger the file is in size, the longer it will take to send and receive the E-mail. Data files can be mailed to people using the postal system if the data is copied to a floppy disk or a compact disc. The postal service can send any kind of package, from a simple letter to a computer, for a price depending on its size weight, and desired shipping speed. The speed of the postal service is a problem though. A single letter can ta...
... be less likely to smear the prints. Large objects should be fastened down with string on wood or heavy cardboard (Andrus et al., n.d., para 53). Papers and documents need to be individually placed in a cellophane or manila envelope which needs to be placed in between two sheets of cardboard paper. It can then be placed in a box for mailing.
According to Postman, he mentioned about the invention of printing press had a great impact of human civilization. Of such technology had eventually created a series of influences for the development of childhood. First of all, the printing press was invented because people want to document our idea and be able to transform them through a rapid material. Since the printing press can mass produce literature, and express idea rapidly, it created many consequences.
In 1775, the colonies needed a way to communicate with each other. Statesman Benjamin Franklin, the first Postmaster General, helped develop the postal system we know today. This system helped bind the new natio...
Communication has changed drastically, but how? Human communication has evolved over the years with new inventions and discoveries is heralding revolutions. One of the first inventions of communication were pictographs. Pictographs were the first written communication in the ancient world heralding written communication, but the first inventions of transporting documents were not made until the 15th century. The inventions that went with this possibility were paper, papyrus, and wax, which led the invention of the printing press that led to letters being able to be transported from place to place. In older times documents would have to be typewritten again, and again until the final version would be completed. But writing the document was just the half of what you would have to do to finally send the document. For the person to finally send off the document. The person would have to first take a trip to the post office, and also required a postage stamp. Before these methods of communication became possible, there were other methods such as telegrams. Telegrams had severe limitations in text, but also had many severe effects on people, and remained extremely costly to...
As society and technology advances, formal letter writing is declining rapidly. During the 1800’s, writing formal letters was one of the most effective ways of getting in touch with family and friends that are miles away .You would simply write a letter and send it to your destination. The only problem with this is that people would get tired of waiting for their letter to arrive. Personal, formal writing has greatly decreased by two - three percent every year. New inventions like telephoning, text messaging, and email are the main technology gurus that are at fault for the major decline in formal letter writing. These are the new inventions that the populations have found for a more practical way of communication.

Today’s mailing system is faster and more convenient than it was during the revolutionary time period through the Civil War. With today’s advanced technology, more people choose to instant message and email each other rather than sending letters in the mail. Because of this, we have changed the way people communicate as a society and as a whole. Mail today is fast, convenient, and simple to use. The way we use mail to communicate today is vastly improving much like it was before the 1870s.
I never thought about writing something down with a pen on plain lined paper involved technology. It always seemed to me that those things were around, pen and paper had just been there, for one reason or another for the purpose of writing down things, organizing ideas, or just jotting down notes. Much like Ong says, “The fact that we do not commonly feel the influence of writing on our thoughts shows that we have interiorized the technology of writing so deeply that without tremendous effort we cannot separate it from ourselves or even recognize its presence and influence. (Tribble and Trubek, 316-317) Creating a writing technology is something that takes a lot of thought. The process, materials, words written down, and the purpose of writing things down although common to modern society, was something that proved daunting to create.
Networking with friends and family across long distances has been a concern of mankind for centuries. People have always relied on communication to boost their relationships. When face-to-face discussions are not possible or not convenient, humans have brainstormed plenty of artistic solutions. The first methods of communicating across great distances used written correspondence delivered by hand from one person to another. In other words they wrote letters. The earliest form of postal service dates back to 550 B.C., and this ancient delivery system would become more widespread and streamlined in future centuries. In the 1830s, the telegraph was invented. This enables messages to be delivered over a long distance far faster than a rider could
